If you've picked up fruit at Costco, Trader Joe's, Kroger or Walmart stores recently, keep reading.

Wawona Packing Co. is voluntarily recalling peaches, nectarines, plums and pluots that were packed at its Cutler, California, warehouses between June 1 and July 12. Wawona believes the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Costco, Trader Joe's, and the Walmart Corp. - which operates Walmart and Sam's Club stores, have all posted notices about the fruit recall on their websites. The recall is nationwide, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Internal testing at Wawona revealed the potential Listeria contamination, the FDA says. The facility was shut down and sanitized; subsequent tests have been negative for the food-borne illness.

"We are aware of no illnesses related to the consumption of these products," Wawona President Brent Smittcamp said in a statement. "By taking the precautionary step of recalling product, we will minimize even the slightest risk to public health, and that is our priority."

My husband was hospitalized for five days with an "unknown infection"! We live in a small town with a hospital that is not that great. When he had a spinal tap to be tested for Meningitis, due to the his stiff neck, severe headaches and high fever, they never looked for Listeria. (We're not sure the spinal tap fluid was even good since it sat in a GARBAGE PAIL for two hours before it was "found". The hospital sent him home after five days of taking him on and off antibiotics because they couldn't figure out what he had. Once I saw the recall I KNEW exactly what it was. We are now having him tested again and are getting him back on antibiotics since he has yet to fully recover FOUR WEEKS later!!! We are now looking for an attorney.

  2. Listeria Trader Joes

I am pregnant and being treated for Listeria after eating nectarines from Trader Joe's basically all month. My son was also very ill. It infuriates me that I've reported this to the packaging company and all news reports say that no illnesses have been reported. I've also reported it on three different occasions to Trader Joe's and they have yet to respond. Thank God, I am on antibiotics but it doesn't make me any less nervous.
