Pssst! Got a sec to chat? We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.

Consider the weekly Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic. You can always find it from the link in the left rail, or by bookmarking http://eatocracy.cnn.com/category/buzz/coffee-klatsch/.

    I GIVE UP
You'll have to be a Sasquatch if you want any real privacy. Big Brother and his sister Corporation will keep their omnipotent eyes on you. The next step: Fashion Police. First the app – you take a selfie and your attire is scanned for social acceptance. You get to select "your mother's" voice that'll scream appropriate phrases like: "You can't go out wearing that!".

Next – insta-tatoo touchup. Make em or erase em. No one on line will ever know if they are real or not.

You're on a roll today! What about the grocery store "frequent shopper" cards, I bet they know more about our habits than we care to think...same thing with pharmacies, credit card companies, etc. I think since everything is online now (and has been for some time), there hasn't been much privacy for some time...

        Good points.
Call me paranoid, crazy or anything else. Just don't call me late for supper.
I am pragmatic about privacy. Search on line about masking your shopping identity and habits from marketers – it is rather easy. For instance, I use a neighbors name on shoppers cars, their family can use the rewards. Why a family of 3 kids under the age of 10 buys so much beer is beyond me :)
While you are at it ask yourself why does our government, federal, state and local, need to know our daily habits, who we associate with, where and when we shop, what we buy? Why is a personality profile is being built about you, me and your grandchild, the one in the crib.... people who have shown no threat or intent to commit a crime? And why strangers, even my mother, for a fee, can know everything about you, your friends and enemies and your habits? Does this sound like a hit man doing his homework? I hope so. Because this info is there for the taking, the buying.
I'm trying to keep this in focus, but the subject is like a nice big sparkling diamond... Many facets...

Why is our travel habits recorded and studied for variances and discrepancies? Or faces recorded, recognized and associated? You think I'm paranoid? What about our government? Doesn't anyone think it's paranoia is bit extreme? How much does all this surveillance cost us and how is it paid and who is running and managing all this?

Years ago it was leaked that a huge NSA program to survey every person in the US was canceled. Why? Because more and better information could be bought, cheaper, from MySpace and Facebook. Why does NSA need computer farms larger than all the WWII US Japanese concentration and prisoner of war camps, that also uses 10s of times more power than all the WWII nuclear weapons facilities combined? Why?
I can't understand why Snowdens exposure of just the ankle of NSA and governemnts collection of personal information of common citizens awaken much concern. Is it because no one wants to loose FaceCrook?

Data mining our social media, like MyFace and Disqust, is light years from banks and grocery stores. It brings a huge pool of personal information to entities you don't know. Commercial, US and foreign governments, the next person that interviews you for a job, looks at your loan application, or approves you to to access a homeless shelter for battered women will have access to your personalty, Your position as given by your cell phone, your thoughts you share on line, like these, what you wear, how you think, who you associate with, your interests in porn, or not, the clubs and associations you belong to... your internet search history (it's collected daily and no I'm not a terrorist if I look up how the Boston Bombers made their bomb). The aggregate of everything you have Binged, Googled, posted, uploaded, downloaded, sideloaded, commented on; you likes, dislikes, arguments, distastes and views on current events – all this – strangers – can learn about you. Did I mention foreign governments, China, North Korea, Israel, local militias and churches, heck, ISIS even, have access to your person without you even being aware of it? Wave that rainbow flag proudly...
Why? Because privacy laws have not kept up with technology. Not only do we not have any control over who sees our personal information, we don't have any oversight of what is availible and how it is viewed. What square holes we have been put into? IN SHORT, WHAT IS THE COLOR OF THE STAR SEWN ON YOUR COAT?

Computers make errors and you may be marked somewhere as a terrorist because you donated to the Sierra Club. This may affect your loan application, credit rating and such. Not only can you not review this erroneous information, you can't change it. You can't do anything to defend yourself. Search about this corundum, the lives that have been ruined and the jobs lost or missed....
These are things the 4th amendment was made to protect. These are the things that even the most conservative politicians don't care to address. Why? Ask not just your congressman, but ask them all, because once elected, even though they are to represent their state, they represent the US as a whole. a And that's something else as a nation, we have forgotten.
This is as short as I can make it.

  9. ™©JbJiNg!eŚ®™ with a geography challenge

So, I've been thinking of planning a trip using a around the world business class award ticket. The rules are:

    -One direction of travel (backtracking is allowed with connections only but distance is not a factor;
-6 maximum stopovers with no more than 3 on any one continent
-16 maximum segments, and overland segments count toward that total
-Any layover more than 24 hours is considered a stopover. This is the same for domestic and international stops.
-Overland segments must be in the same direction of travel of the overall trip
-Longitude of the airport is used to determine east/west direction between stopovers
    -No maximum on total distance

So some places on my bucket list to visit are:
    Tahiti
    Australia
    Possibly India (Bombay)
    Thailand
Egypt (must see the pyramids before someone destroys them)
    Possibly Dubai??
    Norway
    Ireland
    Prague?
Austria (the hills are alive with the sound of music)

So can someone piece that together into an itinerary??

LOL There is a tool on the miles website that I haven't tried in a while, their systems are pretty sad to start with, so looking for ideas/strategies. I'm thinking starting out heading West so that I gain hours/days instead of heading East and losing them. I'll be younger when I return! LOL

Maybe I'll just get a big wall map and push pins with string...I have to make sure I don't backtrack, that is the tricky part. Le voyage awaits...

After looking at G-Earth, use G-map and lay out your travel plan. With Street view and all the other wonderful sites available you can take a virtual tour of your planned route. See the sights, read peoples opinions. Find the best Tours or the best way to visit solo. Some places you can hire a guide for practically nothing – with a little luck they can show you a great restaurant off the beaten tourist path.

Scotland is on my list for a cruise, we were scheduled to go end of May, but then mom got sick...

I was able to play with the Skyteam tool yesterday, there are more rules, max 38k miles and I managed to exceed that so had to remove Dubai and Johansburg(sp?), and no flights I could find stopping in Tahiti first before heading to Sydney...flight in to Tahiti, but nothing I guess heading West.

So right now my fantasy itinerary is:
        Los Angeles (origination)
        Sydney
        Phuket
        Mumbai
        Dubai
        Prague

I think it's safe to say that we'll be hanging right here while the other lounge is under construction?

The 4:34 post ain't me babe...

Job stuff has shuffled around and is keeping me plenty busy. The news yesterday prompted me to drop in. Mr. Williams was WAY too young. I also used to be a teacher, and "Dead Poets Society" hit me square between the eyes. Can't believe it has been 25 years...

And the 4:58 post wasn't me either, looks like our little friends remembered how to cut and paste again...besides when (rarely) I drink gin, it's only Hendricks.

Sigh. He was a classic. And, thanks, Kat, for your post in Living.

Oh man. I walked around screaming obscenities into the air for a good long time last night.

That was very kind and big of you...I feel that sometimes internet bullies think what they write in public (or private) is 'just' funny and harmless, but you never know who is reading that might be fragile and it hits a chord and can hurt. People just need to be kinder to one another, there's enough negativity and hate out in the real world. Peace and welcome to the CK!
