Pssst! Got a sec to chat? We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.
Consider the weekly Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic. You can always find it from the link in the left rail, or by bookmarking http://eatocracy.cnn.com/category/buzz/coffee-klatsch/.
there a Klatsch "over there?" This feels like an episode of Fringe.
... this is the new Klatsch – fringe free:
Good by Coffee Klastch, old friend, you will be missed....hope the archives stay out there for a while.
I sure wish I had stumbled on the Klatsch a long time ago. As maybe the newest "regular", the time was all too short. It's been great getting to "know" y'all and I'll try to follow along O.T.
O.T. – overtime?
Apple announced today that a recent upgrade to the iPhone 6 software will now enable users to quickly recharge the phone by placing it in a microwave oven for 45 seconds.
I GIVE UP
You'll have to be a Sasquatch if you want any real privacy. Big Brother and his sister Corporation will keep their omnipotent eyes on you. The next step: Fashion Police. First the app – you take a selfie and your attire is scanned for social acceptance. You get to select "your mother's" voice that'll scream appropriate phrases like: "You can't go out wearing that!".
Next – insta-tatoo touchup. Make em or erase em. No one on line will ever know if they are real or not.
You're on a roll today! What about the grocery store "frequent shopper" cards, I bet they know more about our habits than we care to think...same thing with pharmacies, credit card companies, etc. I think since everything is online now (and has been for some time), there hasn't been much privacy for some time...
Call me paranoid, crazy or anything else. Just don't call me late for supper.
I am pragmatic about privacy. Search on line about masking your shopping identity and habits from marketers – it is rather easy. For instance, I use a neighbors name on shoppers cars, their family can use the rewards. Why a family of 3 kids under the age of 10 buys so much beer is beyond me :)
While you are at it ask yourself why does our government, federal, state and local, need to know our daily habits, who we associate with, where and when we shop, what we buy? Why is a personality profile is being built about you, me and your grandchild, the one in the crib.... people who have shown no threat or intent to commit a crime? And why strangers, even my mother, for a fee, can know everything about you, your friends and enemies and your habits? Does this sound like a hit man doing his homework? I hope so. Because this info is there for the taking, the buying.
I'm trying to keep this in focus, but the subject is like a nice big sparkling diamond... Many facets...
Why is our travel habits recorded and studied for variances and discrepancies? Or faces recorded, recognized and associated? You think I'm paranoid? What about our government? Doesn't anyone think it's paranoia is bit extreme? How much does all this surveillance cost us and how is it paid and who is running and managing all this?
Years ago it was leaked that a huge NSA program to survey every person in the US was canceled. Why? Because more and better information could be bought, cheaper, from MySpace and Facebook. Why does NSA need computer farms larger than all the WWII US Japanese concentration and prisoner of war camps, that also uses 10s of times more power than all the WWII nuclear weapons facilities combined? Why?
I can't understand why Snowdens exposure of just the ankle of NSA and governemnts collection of personal information of common citizens awaken much concern. Is it because no one wants to loose FaceCrook?
Data mining our social media, like MyFace and Disqust, is light years from banks and grocery stores. It brings a huge pool of personal information to entities you don't know. Commercial, US and foreign governments, the next person that interviews you for a job, looks at your loan application, or approves you to to access a homeless shelter for battered women will have access to your personalty, Your position as given by your cell phone, your thoughts you share on line, like these, what you wear, how you think, who you associate with, your interests in porn, or not, the clubs and associations you belong to... your internet search history (it's collected daily and no I'm not a terrorist if I look up how the Boston Bombers made their bomb). The aggregate of everything you have Binged, Googled, posted, uploaded, downloaded, sideloaded, commented on; you likes, dislikes, arguments, distastes and views on current events – all this – strangers – can learn about you. Did I mention foreign governments, China, North Korea, Israel, local militias and churches, heck, ISIS even, have access to your person without you even being aware of it? Wave that rainbow flag proudly...
Why? Because privacy laws have not kept up with technology. Not only do we not have any control over who sees our personal information, we don't have any oversight of what is availible and how it is viewed. What square holes we have been put into? IN SHORT, WHAT IS THE COLOR OF THE STAR SEWN ON YOUR COAT?
Computers make errors and you may be marked somewhere as a terrorist because you donated to the Sierra Club. This may affect your loan application, credit rating and such. Not only can you not review this erroneous information, you can't change it. You can't do anything to defend yourself. Search about this corundum, the lives that have been ruined and the jobs lost or missed....
These are things the 4th amendment was made to protect. These are the things that even the most conservative politicians don't care to address. Why? Ask not just your congressman, but ask them all, because once elected, even though they are to represent their state, they represent the US as a whole. a And that's something else as a nation, we have forgotten.
This is as short as I can make it.
Wow, just-wow. That's some serious food for thought.....
OK, you're paranoid. But good job being punctual for dinner.
For the record my reply is waiting moderation. despite being very careful not to use anything that may offend a human being. At least to my knowledge...
Then again, the Supreme Court declared Businesses people so I may offended one of those guys. And the horse they rode in on....
God forbid Target prints out a coupon for an item I actually will purchase.
Funny you should mention Target.
Did the girl use the coupons?
Holy cr@p onna cr@cker! Where'd all these Weeds come from?
I believe the federal Privacy Act of 1974 was last amended in 1988.
Talk about keeping up with technology.
Almost Happy Birthday to You, Almost Happy Birthday to Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, hope you have a wonderful long weeekend celebrating!
Thank you noice ladee!
3rd Year Anniversary of my diagnosis of MS and still going strong! Now if someone can find the post where we had a story going on the couple at the beach, that was some funny stuff.
Congratulations on going strong!
Thank you, it's been a journey for sure! Stress is NOT a friend of MS, and I've had my challenges this year, but I'm hanging in there!
Hang In There
And Don't Let Go!
Congrats my dear, and keep on keepin on...Don't let the b@stards get you down.
You got that right! It's a carppy disease, but has some perks...I get to board the plane before all those "don't you know who I am" guys lined up for first class, bwahaha
That, and now a discount on my electric bill, woot. We've been sweltering over here...

R 2!!! on the email! Meg hasn't designated the difference between your email addressesses. Would you mind ID'ing them when you get a chance so I can update my file?
My anniv is here, 2/11/10. More specifically, here:
No presents for me tho'. Just clean up after yourself when you're finished in the dungeon.
You've got mail, and how cute on your first day all shy and everything! LOL
Was not neither shy no how!
Uh huh, were too.
As a result of Dissus keeping freedom of speech under it's thumb with a different set of rules than WordPress did here, I will no longer keep track of the list posted below. A new list has been started by Digital Dom. Fare well.
We shall miss you.....
This is about the only place that still allows comments. Probably be gone soon.
No need for comments anymore. We tell you what and when to think.
Pay no attention to that curtain because I am the great and powerful.....
Oh look! Another copy n paster! How exciting for you.
Be original and find your own moniker.
HAWKS!!!! 1 down, 15 to go.
Isn't that the sound you make when you "hawk" up a loogie?
Oh good grief. So not me......
Now now, don't be a bitter cheese head. Just be happy Snyder isn't there, making a cluster fork of your team.
what you did there.......
It's that time again-GO HAWKS!!!!!
Due to unusually high fan and viewer apathy, tonight's television broadcast of the Green Bay Packers – Seattle Seahawks game will be cancelled.
Yeah, it's too bad Green Bay's fans and viewers are so apathetic and can't seem to get behind their team......
Short of flipping cars over, starting fires and beating the crap out of anyone not wearing the right jersey, what do want from us?
Don't mistake us for Giants fans, ehh?
Let's see if posting an update list works over here – 'cuz it doesn't look like it will on the new site:

So, I've been thinking of planning a trip using a around the world business class award ticket. The rules are:
-One direction of travel (backtracking is allowed with connections only but distance is not a factor;
-6 maximum stopovers with no more than 3 on any one continent
-16 maximum segments, and overland segments count toward that total
-Any layover more than 24 hours is considered a stopover. This is the same for domestic and international stops.
-Overland segments must be in the same direction of travel of the overall trip
-Longitude of the airport is used to determine east/west direction between stopovers
-No maximum on total distance
So some places on my bucket list to visit are:
Possibly India (Bombay)
Egypt (must see the pyramids before someone destroys them)
Austria (the hills are alive with the sound of music)
So can someone piece that together into an itinerary??
Holy crap! That's quite the list and that's a LOT of rules. Sounds amazing however you put it together.
I dream BIG! :) And I believe in visualizing your goals...probably won't happen for a few years (5), but I can dream about it now!
Absolutely nothing wrong with dreaming. It's how you "get there".
Just for the sake of a visual, why not plug your destination into Google Maps and see what you're "wiring diagram" looks like. Maybe it'll help you plan le voyage.
Dream big, girlfriend. Dream big.
"plug it in" says the digital engineering dom! LOL There is a tool on the miles website that I haven't tried in a while, their systems are pretty sad to start with, so looking for ideas/strategies. I'm thinking starting out heading West so that I gain hours/days instead of heading East and losing them. I'll be younger when I return! LOL
Maybe I'll just get a big wall map and push pins with string...I have to make sure I don't backtrack, that is the tricky part. Le voyage awaits...
You are as sharp as a whip!
After looking at G-Earth, use G-map and lay out your travel plan. With Street view and all the other wonderful sites available you can take a virtual tour of your planned route. See the sights, read peoples opinions. Find the best Tours or the best way to visit solo. Some places you can hire a guide for practically nothing – with a little luck they can show you a great restaurant off the beaten tourist path.
Find American x-pats. Some of them enjoy showing off their cities to their fellow country men.
Is there a time limit? Is this around the world in 48 days?
What a great thing to do.
I believe it can be up to one year, but I wouldn't want to take that long, plus the expense at each local...thinking maybe 3-4 nights at each stop, x 6 stops, so maybe around 3-4 weeks.
How about adding New Zealand and Scotland? Mom and Dad went to New Zealand and said it was beautiful, and I can attest to Scotland too.
Scotland is on my list for a cruise, we were scheduled to go end of May, but then mom got sick...
I was able to play with the Skyteam tool yesterday, there are more rules, max 38k miles and I managed to exceed that so had to remove Dubai and Johansburg(sp?), and no flights I could find stopping in Tahiti first before heading to Sydney...flight in to Tahiti, but nothing I guess heading West.
So right now my fantasy itinerary is:
Los Angeles (origination)
Thought I would throw this out there...what cartoon character do you think represents you best or that you associate with?
Me – Miss Piggy – maybe it's the blonde hair, but I like her spunk!
AleeD – Jessica Rabbit?
RH – Yosemite Sam?
Is that because AleeD is Jessica?? ~_~
Calvin, of "Calvin and Hobbes" fame...
Good choice! I was trying to come up with one for you but didn't think of this one, and I loved the comic!
Linus would have been my close second choice...
I f I had to pick a different one, Bill the Cat.
Interesting question....my CB handle back in the days when everyone seemed to have one, was Peppermint Patty for obvious reasons....but now I think I'd pick the brainy geek on Scooby Doo.
Ahhh, There's still a place where I can come out of the weeds.
Spent a week talking and interviewing watermen in Maryland, Virginia and Northern North Carolina.
In essence its still a collapsing industry. But with the growth of aquaculture and in some cases draconian resource management there is still a future for these hard working men and women. But today, it's hard tough way to scratch a living. Think of it as a deep drought.
Watermen are the farmers of the sea. From fishermen, clam diggers, oystermen, shrimpers to kelp harvesters and everything in between.
I thought it was a pen.
need…..coffee-–Don't get up,I'll make it. How was the weekend Kidz ??? At least we had Football and Tony Romo passed his first test….a fumbled handoff on the third play. Good to see that things haven't changed. My Rangers suck helium and can't even beat the Houston Astros-Fly me to the Moon. SIGH. Make it a Great Week Everyone.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY M-–Love You.
I 2nd that emotion, Happy Birthday Q! Did Turth let you keep the black card to shop for your present??
Heeeeeeeey, "comments are now closed" on the other one?
I've been trying to play along but thought my posts were not going through then scroll down and they are all willy nilly all over the place in no particular order. Hopefully just fine tuning the site??
Fine tuning! CNN has turned off commenting but I'm turning that back on because I love you.
Thanks Kat – I'll keep trying over there, hopefully it will be smoother sailing/posting!
The resources involved in moderating comments is just overwhelming, so the community folks are concentrating on having them only where a good signal-to-noise is likely. We can turn them on for our own stories, but they we're responsible for babysitting them.
Thanks, appreciate, and will comment responsibly! (Just cuz it is fun that way.)
re: Modbots - to some degree, some words are blocked, but your creative troll will find some new and terrible way to be racist, sexist, homophobic, abusive, etc. Actual human beings have to wade through that filth.
A colleague of mine who works on the HLN side was saying he couldn't sleep the other night because the tide of filth he'd had to wade through in the course of his workday. It's bad. Worse than anyone sees.
Humpy Hap Day everyone! 2 days ago it was over 90deg. and today it's 60 and pouring rain. And when it's 90 here, boy is it sticky. Ah well, life in the Pacific Northwest. Wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
@Kat-really nice piece on Living. Thanks for that. I too was yelling obscenities at no one in particular.
Seriously was walking around screaming!
Morning all! I'm a bit lost here now. Are y'all posting & I can't find them or are you lost here like me? This is frustrating, to say the least. 😔
Can you hear me now? LOL. My post was disappearing from the other one, but then had email saying MG replied..weird
Lol! I hear ya. 😃
I think it's safe to say that we'll be hanging right here while the other lounge is under construction?
RIP-Robin Williams. You will be missed.........
Makes me want to stand on my desk and read some Whitman.
Welcome back!! Where you bean?
The 4:34 post ain't me babe...
Job stuff has shuffled around and is keeping me plenty busy. The news yesterday prompted me to drop in. Mr. Williams was WAY too young. I also used to be a teacher, and "Dead Poets Society" hit me square between the eyes. Can't believe it has been 25 years...
And the 4:58 post wasn't me either, looks like our little friends remembered how to cut and paste again...besides when (rarely) I drink gin, it's only Hendricks.
Sigh. He was a classic. And, thanks, Kat, for your post in Living.
Oh man. I walked around screaming obscenities into the air for a good long time last night.
That was very kind and big of you...I feel that sometimes internet bullies think what they write in public (or private) is 'just' funny and harmless, but you never know who is reading that might be fragile and it hits a chord and can hurt. People just need to be kinder to one another, there's enough negativity and hate out in the real world. Peace and welcome to the CK!
Morning CK! Got home yesterday from work @98 degrees and someone had putlled my trash cans in for me, thank you trash fairy! I love my neighbors.
@RH – you've gotz mail
@AleeD – thanks I'll checks the website...last night was roasted fingerling taters, garlic, onion, red bell peppa, fresh sage and thyme...pass the breath mints please!
Tried posting twice this morning on the new one, and they show up, go back and they are gone...I've been banned? :(
Wake up YOU Slackers-Psst–I'm over here on the original Eatocracy. I'm Old Skool,A Rebel and still trying to figure out this Mac Book Pro to find my password for the " New Site "…SIGH !! I hope everyone had a Great Weekend-The Ladies and I did a little Naked Grilling, some Frisbee tossing (which Sweet Pea is a natural at ) and some cold Brewski drinking. Make it a Great week everyone.
Yo Bro. YAWN. Got coffee? Tell us about the new ladies in your life. I asked about them a while ago, but I think you were busy warming up your spatula for the weekend.
Yeah, looks like I'll be staying here for the foreseeable future. Just can't get it figured out from work. I can post "over there" from home no problem. Must be some security setting thingy.
Does Sweet Pea use her thumbs to toss the Frisbee? Video or it didn't happen! Ha ha.
I had my first visitor to my new home yesterday, I made us a little lunch/brunch...Brie with Green apple crostini's, Herbed Goat Cheese with cukumber crostinis, Croque Monsieur (omgyum), sliced strawberries that soaked in aged balsamic and sugar with lemon Madeleines, and Bellini's. Lazy afternoon after all that, so caught up on my DVR's. :)
Wow, that sounds good!
Awesome!! Any leftovers?
Why yes there is...goat cheese, brie, gruyere, apple, cukumber, black forest ham, french bread, marinated olives, one bottle of Tat's, and one can of peach nectar...now what can I make with that!??
I think I'm going veggies tonight, too much rich foods yesterday, but it was dayum good if I do say so myself. :)
Plug those ingredients in to supercook.com's website. It'll find recipes to go with those items. It's helped my creative juices more than once.
After catching said Frisbee, the knuckleHead races back to me but wants to play tug of war instead of releasing it. Note to self-Buy 2 more Frisbees.@ My Sista'–Lolly is a 4 yr old Black Lab who belongs to my good friend that is leasing Big Blue. She weighs too much to get in and out of the truck so she is my house guest. Sweet Pea just turned 1 this month and still acts like a puppy. She is housebroken, knows sit, stay and down commands so the hard part is over. She's like a moose in the house tho.
