John King highlights an incriminating picture of President Obama during his recent trip to Chipotle. Did he overstep his political power here or is it OK for a customer to breach the boundary of the sneeze guard?

Reading the headline, I was all set to come in here screaming "Unsanitary! Impeach! Benghazi!!"

Then I saw the picture and realized some yahoo installed the sneezeguard backwards. It'd be hard NOT to reach over that thing.

I think that sneeze guard is meant to prevent Chipotle employees from sneezing on customers.

Incorrect – look at where it meets the wall at the far right. The reflection of the food makes it look slanted the wrong way but it's an optical illusion. And it's gross no matter who does that.

It's just his telepromter - so he 'knows what to say' when asking for food.

Well I guess only poor people really know what a sneeze guard is. See those workers that could all sneeze in the food, that means not a sneeze guard. Sneeze guard is for when customers serve themselves. Come on, and funy part they don't care if it is wrong they said there bull now they will let it wonder.

REALLY? If you post here, I hope you don't eat at a buffet restaurant. The burger you order where you don't see the amount of sneezes that goes into it, you may want to consider your ignorant comments. And now to you, 'want to be politician', good will never be good and bad will always be bad for you. Please everyone, refocus on real life.

Frankly, I think it's the fault of Chipotle management. I contacted them years ago about an inadequate sneeze guard in one of its restaurants in SoCal. They responded with a PC letter and did nothing to retrofit the glass. So, the patrons will continue to poke their hands, kids (and believe it or not, small dogs) over the guard. I don't eat there anymore, nor should any health-conscious person. I guess the stock price isn't high enough yet for this easy fix to be affordable?!! Shame on you, Chipotle!! :(

I tried a Chipotle once out of curiosity (succumbing to all the PC hype about their business). The food was standard sort-of-Mexican fast food. Really bad. I don't get the appeal at all.

One of the perks to being somewhat tall, though I think I have 2 inches on the President. I'm not sure why he felt the need to reach over it in that particular case.

    1. It's not a sneeze guard.

Sneeze guards are on buffets and salad bars and are appropriately put at a height and angle to be below most noses and above arms. What that piece of glass does is prevent hot splatter and the condiments from hitting the customers' clothes and/or person. It's why they're chest high and not angled below your nose and open so you can reach through. Reaching over and pointing, not a problem; no touching of food over the glass.

    2. Really? Some fact checking here CNN. That's NOT a sneeze guard and therefore nothing of offense vis-a-vis health code to my knowledge, though it does vary state-to-state (STATES RIGHTS! whistle going off). Sensationalist nonsense grab for ad impressions. Now there's something there ought to be a law against.

  11. CausinAScene

WHOA!.... That's not even a regulation "Sneeze Guard" it's tilted the wrong way..there is NO way that would deflect even a minor sneeze or other debris from reaching the food serving area...As someone who has worked in the food industry for 33 years, even before there were "Sneeze Guards" and having seen many different types/models over the years. I have to say honestly, that whatever is installed there is installed incorrectly, If indeed that is supposed to be acting as a "Sneeze Guard" ..it is more likely to keep customers from reaching over as Mr. Obama clearly didn't understand or comprehend.

    June 24, 2014 at 2:04 pm |
    • CrispyBacon

Look at where it meets the wall – it is installed correctly, it's just the reflection throwing you off.

      June 24, 2014 at 4:35 pm |
  12. FredM

"Sneeze-guards" can be a real pain for tall people (I'm 6'5"), especially the buffet style ones, which, if they are lower than the norm, will be easier for me to reach over them, if possible. If not possible, then getting to anything in the back row is almost impossible.

In this case with Obama, it wasn't a serve yourself deal though, so that does change things. Also, as you can see, the angle of the "sneeze-guard" faces out, which would seem to make it hard for anyone to point out what they want. Combine that with his height, and that he was only pointing to what he wanted (as far as I can tell), this is one of the few times that I will say that he did nothing wrong.

Those things have all come and gone, and since your side couldn't gin up an anti-government riot about them, they don't matter now. But by all means show us how far out of touch with reality you are. Spew some hatred about people you've never met. We ARE going to vote for Hillary; she's not perfect but she's not spewing and barking like you. No employees do sneeze,.. but if one does in the serving area(especially if one has a minor cold) the regulations would require that the food service area(the side their serving from) be totally swapped out and replaced with new food and sanitized correctly..

  18. Seriously

If this is seriously news-worthy, then this country really is in trouble. Freedom of the press is one thing, but this is ridiculous. I mean, come on. I'm not a fan, but this pushes the boundaries of sensibility. This is a report on REACHING OVER A DAMN SNEEZE GUARD. How about you start reporting on the corruption in all aspects of government, not just a particular party, or the erosion of individual rights? How about the illegal executive orders, or inability of congress to stop, say how do we fix this, and then work together in small steps to make a notable difference?

This is why we're being seen as a laughing stock in the modern world. How about we, as Americans, pull our heads of the dark, dank spot they're stuck, and do something?

    June 24, 2014 at 1:48 pm |

I'd be humiliated to admit I feared someone so abjectly and superstitiously as you loons hate and fear both Obama and Hillary. He eats at Chipotle, you go INSANE. She goes on a book tour, you go INSANE. Really, it isn't hard to understand. You live in a fantasy world where "liberalism" is some kind of horrid religion that no same person would follow, and since it's not and you have no idea what it actually is, you keep attacking straw men. "They're taking our guns!" No, they aren't. You keep shrieking and YOU might be personally disarmed as dangerous, but the rest of us calm people will have our guns right here.

I just love how you guys "know" this stuff:
*. I think the problem is that he believes he can and should do whatever he wants with no regard for the consequences on others.
*he became president for power and corporate interests, not for the American people.
And I love how only the Conservatives call him the Messiah. You must see something in him that we don't. He's a senator we elected president, and when his term's up, we're hiring Hillary for his job. Maybe in ten more years we can clean up after Dubya's mess. Obama is a touchy/feely sort of person that would invade your personal space if he were engaged in a conversation with you. This is not a matter of national security, so it's being blown out of proportion, but he does need to have someone teach him about basic etiquette.

    June 24, 2014 at 1:21 pm |

We explained twenty times what they were to the new boss, but he made us take them down anyway. He was so pleased with himself until the Health Inspector walked in, said "Wow, it's TRUE," and cited him for a violation. Then he was even madder at us for not explaining what they were.

This is not that serious. We have more pressing matters. Plus no individual has any idea of the horros that take place behind the sneeze guard after hours or the food itself where it has been or came from, And I personnally do not see him touching nor sneezing on the food. And Our President seems clean and dirt free. He doesn't get his hands dirty.!

The sneeze guard is facing the wrong way. It should be angled over the food, not toward the customers.

      June 24, 2014 at 12:47 pm |

It's not angled at all. look where it ends at the wall against the tile. The reflection of the food bins is making you think it's angled.

        June 24, 2014 at 1:09 pm |
      • politico123

Where did you learn geometery? The guards are angled the wrong way, they should be over the food, with the top pointing towards the servers. If any tall person sneezed towards the food, the glass would act as a nice slide right into your burrito fixings.

        June 24, 2014 at 1:11 pm |
        • Steve-O

Where did you learn to observe? Look beyond POTUS...follow the glass all the way to the wall....Its at a 90degree angle. Either that or have you never been to Chipotle and don't know their "cookie cutter" interior.

          June 24, 2014 at 1:29 pm |
    • AleeD®

While it Chipotle's single angle shield is mounted at 90 degrees to the counter, there is no way to keep people from reaching over those "sneeze shields" when they want to. Subway has among the best shields. Yet I still see neanderthals reaching over and pointing at food because, apparently, words have failed them.

Bush Sr. and Jr. no matter what your thoughts are on Obama, to mention Clinton and Cheny but leave out bush 1 and 2 is pathetic and really shows what is wrong with this country today. everyone is so petty and ignorant to facts, base all of their opinions off of biased far left or far right wing sources and get sucked into the mass media that get paid by these morons to support their parties. leave the petty BS behind and support your commander and Chief. Regardless of whether or not you agree with him or his policies he was voted in by the masses and as an American citizen you have agreed to live by these laws of democracy. If you don't like it leave.

I was thinking the same thing- reaching over issues aside, the 'sneeze guard' doesn't seem like it would be all that effective for anyone taller than an Oompa Loompa.

He was just practicing Whack–A Mole so he can beat his daughters at the game.
