Taco Bell tries to class up the joint

You can't get a Mexican Car Bomb at your local Taco Bell. But you will at a new restaurant the fast-food chain is testing in a bid to reach new customers.

How far is Taco Bell branching out? The Mexican Car Bomb isn't even a taco. It's a vanilla shake with Guinness, tequila caramel sauce and chocolate flakes.

U.S. Taco Co, set to open in Huntington Beach, Calif., this summer, with a taco-focused menu - but not the same tacos you can buy for a buck or two at Taco Bell.

The "Brotherly Love" will be like eating a Philly cheese steak stuffed inside a flour tortilla. The "Winner Winner" adds a southern twist, with crispy chicken and gravy.

This makes about as much sense as Walmart carrying fine Italian suits...

california continues its complete and utter destruction of food by trying to reinvent the wheel in as many different shapes as possible

Know whats better than a philly cheese steak in a tortilla? A philly cheese steak with bread. Know whats better than chicken and gravy in a tortilla? Chicken and gravy with no tortilla.

Have they given up on the food and now just going for " That Look " to attract customers ? I don't understand it. It. looks
like a melange of my 60's childhood. The only thing that might make it look Mexican, "Avocado Green " appliances.
Anybody else grow up with one of those anyone green kitchens ? They are conspicuously absent. Is that " Strip Club" sign
I am referring to the bulb light light lettering. No comment on the sentiment : Eat Tacos, that mocks the whole place...is
that's what is going on here? I am struggling to understand this aesthetic because I am becoming surrounded with each
new store, restaurant , car wash , houses etc... I want to enjoy the world & " Get it " have I aged beyond Taco Bell's
demographic ( what ever it maybe.) Maybe that's the point. I am not supposed to " Get It " anymore. When everyone knows the slang & dance moves they cease to be cool. I understand that, concept , but Tacos? We have to look groovy
to pull in those Millennials, we have killed off the old crowd. If it said Eat more Vegan & Fish Tacos, my children might have a go... I would have to be starving to eat a "Fish Taco" those words don't work together in my head. Could I make some at home with some El Paso Taco shells & a large can of "Chicken of the Sea" and top it with lettuce, sour cream, cheese & salsa that sounds horrible. Maybe they are referring to the method of construction, not the contents of what
I see when I hear Taco. When gravies became "reductions" and salads started to look like what is left after you used a weed eater. Seriously, could some young person explain this to me? My children act like they don't know what I am talking about. What is this world order...does it have a name? I really want to enjoy my surroundings. With a little help, does it have a name? You know how in some old movies ( picture Joan Crawford ) and the furniture, curtain, lamps etc
look so dated? I hate Victorian Furniture. It seems the the Victorians did too, they ditched all that massive wooden stuff
So dark & cluttered so Oppressive & full of bug bugs. They can live without a host ( in wood ) for about two years. I was
acted in an old hotel in 2004. It doesn't have to be dark, and you don't have to be asleep. I was reading quietly when I felt
something on my arm. Apparently I had be still long enough... I swear it's like they are Smart! I was looking at it & it turned
and ran away ( with all his friends ) I tried to explain the experience to management ( they were going to give me a new
" old " room ) I told them I wanted Out & give me a refund so I can stay at another hotel. They treated me like I was crazy!
I came home totally freaked out. & covered with bites & my husband treated me like I was crazy too! Then, anybody remember seeing the cover of " Time"' an enlarged photo of one took up the whole cover? It was only after that Bed Bug
Frenzy that people believed me. I told them all I looked forward to their first Attack! It was horrible to be so violated & then
being treated like you were crazy....for years. Sorry I got off topic. Tacos to bed bugs on your interesting blog. I apologize.

Good luck, Taco Hell. I'm still not going. They seem to be clueless to the fact that it isn't just the food quality that people are avoiding, it is the business practices. I'm not going to give the rich guys more money if i notice the little guy just trying to make it. Perhaps if they hadn't been greedy, employing lobbyists, skirting taxes, paying too low of wages, promoting horrible food/diet and out for nothing but themselves for decades now I might have cared. But it is so very much too little, too late. We the people have been making it possible for a few white guys to get filthy rich while we are the ones actually paying the extra money required to make it possible for THEIR employees to make a living. I'm tired of it and this particular homie don't play dat anymore.

So when will be opening a generously paying, nutritional fast food restaurant?

      April 25, 2014 at 10:39 pm |
      • Amy

You forgot a pronoun in that sentence. Why would I open a fast food restaurant? "Fast food" to me is an apple and the bag of almonds I have in my purse. It's called not being lazy. I have no desire or need for some place to deliver me a pile of cheap slop food that serves no purpose. Food is my body's fuel and my body doesn't run on diesel. Fast food restaurants can entirely vanish from society and I won't care at all. I never utilize them. Ever.

You're right....a casheir who presses buttons with food pictures on it should be earning $15 an hour, even more than a medical assistant who has learned to live on $13.50.

And only white people get rich? So, your rant included:
      1) Skewed political views
      2) Racism
      3) Gross generalizations
      4) Shifting of blame.

      Relax, and eat some nachos

Don't confuse her. I'm hoping she takes her ignorant ramblings and uses them to form an OTB (Occupy Taco Bell) movement. I could use some more entertainment from these morons.

you're right. the 1% does obviously include a few Chinese men , a Mexican, and some Middle Eastern men. my bad.
you might want to look into the definition of racism though. avoiding a company because you disagree with their business practices isn't racist and mentioning that the majority of the people who own and profit from these companies happen to be white also isn't racist, it is factual. if i had stated that i wasn't going to eat there ONLY because i had something against the white man, that would be "racist". but i didn't say that. i said it was my prerogative to choose the small business owner over vs the large one and i have every right to do so. 'murica!

This is a joke? Mexican Car Bomb? No sign of any cultural insensitivity at a fake Mexican food restaurant...much

I think it's supposed to be a play on the Irish Car Bomb, a popular alcoholic drink. Apparently You can name a drink pretty much whatever terrible thing you choose as long as it's tasty and contains liquor.
