Drones, drones on the range

Farmers and ranchers are going to take flight to improve the profitability and sustainability of their operations. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are on the verge of playing a big part in modern agriculture. In fact, many people expect agriculture to be the top market for UAV technology when, by 2015, the FAA lays out regulations pertaining to the commercial use of these systems.

These Aren’t The Drones You’re Looking For

Farmers interested in being on the ground floor of farm UAVs have already learned that "drone" is a dirty word. Proponents of putting this technology in the hands of civilians believe the term conjures images of missile strikes and secret surveillance.

Rest assured that the farms and ranches of America won’t be putting Global Hawks and Predator drones to work. Agricultural devices will be something carried around in the back seat or bed of a pickup truck used to take photos and videos of farmland.

Bowman on Beer: Larger-than-life lagers

It might seem like there is a national beer holiday at least once a week, but today celebrates the nation's most popular beer style, lager.

Lagers are fermented slower and at a lower temperature than other beer styles. The large-scale, "macro" breweries obviously rule when it comes to this style, cornering about two-thirds of all beer sales with their light lagers. However, I hope some of you will celebrate today by trying something new. There are plenty of great tasting lagers out there that are in the style that you may be used to, but may have a bit more flavor, produced with better ingredients and brewed by American companies.

Chances are that if you're a carbon-based, two-legged life form, some people in your sphere eat food. More than one of them probably likes it enough to read, talk, blog or take pictures of it in a manner that borders on obsessive.
