While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday.

Milk today for all it's worth - January 11 is Milk Day!

It’s got one of the most recognizable advertising campaigns, without it we wouldn't have café lattes or cheese, and it’s perfect first thing in the morning or warmed up right before bed.

Milk as we know it has been around since animals were domesticated. When man started treating cows, sheep and goats as livestock, milk became a staple of the human diet. Not only is milk high in proteins and vitamins, it also contains calcium which promotes healthy bone growth.

Unless you’re drinking it fresh from the udder, most milk in modern grocery stores has been pasteurized. This means that the milk was heated and then cooled, killing off any harmful bacteria.

Some people might remember the days when a milk man would replace your empty glass jugs of milk with full ones. While that delivery method isn’t as popular these days, milk still is.

These days, milk is a major industry, and with that comes competition. Soy and almond milk might not have the history that regular milk does, but they do appeal to a niche market of people who might be lactose intolerant, or just looking for a healthier alternative.

Aside from adding milk to your cereal or making hot chocolate, milk has many uses in the kitchen. From mashed potatoes to mac and cheese to crème caramel, milk plays a prominent part in making some of our favorite dishes creamier.

Thank you to all our dairy farmers out there who supply us with a safe milk supply! I start each day with a large glass of milk and usually have a few different types of cheeses and occasionally some yogurt.

The conversation went something like this:
She said, "Hmmm, I put this in my mouth and like it, what's the harm in putting THAT in my mouth?"
He said, "You go right ahead. Tell me what happened after I wake up from my nap. Zzzzzz...."
