While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday.
November 23 is National Espresso Day!
NATIONAL ESPRESSO DAY! NATIONAL ESPRESSO DAY! NATIONAL ESPRESSO DAY! NATIONAL ESPRESSO DAY! NATIONAL ESPRESSO DAY!
Having a little trouble cranking your eyes open all the way this morning? Instead of pulling a Popeye and reaching for a can of spinach, slurp down a tiny cup of espresso and just wait for the magic of caffeine to propel you forward.
Espresso is blessed with having more caffeine per unit volume, even if one shot has a third of the caffeine of your average office coffee. This concentrated drink gets its reputation from forcing pressurized, nearly boiling water through finely ground coffee. The end result? A thick, concentrated and foamy shot of energy!
Espresso also serves as the basis for that daily latte, cappuccino, macchiato, mocha or americano. Contrary to popular misconception, the name is meant to signify a brewing method and drink. The beans, blend or roast don't really matter, so you can make espresso out of pretty much any kind of coffee, as long as you have the right tools.
In addition to drinking a seemingly dainty cup of espresso today, why not bring out the big guns and bake it into something? Espresso powder is just the right touch when it comes to enhancing other flavors like chocolate. See if this espresso brownie cake doesn't just make your day.
But if you get a wicked caffeine buzz from all those shots of espresso goodness, don't blame us for your jitters.
