iReporter ace2012 says this "Twurkie" as he calls it, was his "contribution for this year" at Thanksgiving. For those wondering how it's put together, the Charlotte, North Carolina, resident posted information on Pinterest. The idea began when ace2012 started contemplating a future without Twinkies.
"On Nov. 16th, I ran out and bought a box of Twinkies when I heard they might be going out of business," he said.
"I thought they could become a collector's item. But, two days before Thanksgiving, I saw a picture of a cooked turkey and something clicked in my mind. I thought it was a very similar color to a Twinkie. I studied art and sculpture in college and I work in a creative field, so I'm always thinking creative thoughts."
The next question was to figure out how it's done.
"At first, I thought I would make something that looked like a cooked 'Butterball' turkey," he said.
"But, as I put together a prototype, I thought it would look more like a turkey if I made it with tail feathers and a head. I decided it needed a frame to hold the Twinkies, so I used a coathanger. I bought a nickel-plated tray at the 'Dollar' store for $1. From start to finish, it probably took about 1 1/2 hours (including the trip to the store.)"
He took this picture November 20 and shared it on CNN iReport for the world to see as Thanksgiving approaches, and he's hoping it might make some difference, somehow.
"If the 'Twurkie' sparks sales of Twinkies and saves them from bankruptcy, that's something we could all be truly thankful for this Thanksgiving."
Whether or not the company actually shuts down, iReport would like you to bake your own Hostess treat. Please send us a photo of your homemade creation along with the recipe. "I studied art and sculpture in college and I work in a creative field, so I'm always thinking creative thoughts."
You can't make this stuff up, folks.
Oh lighten up. It was supposed to be cute and funny.
im a skinny girl from the usa that loves twinkies, they are a part of my gain weight diet
A turkey made of twinkies. Thank God I'm a Celiac (never thought I would use that sentence) and don't have to dive into that. Or better yet, stuffing made from Twinkies. No wonder this country of ours is the heaviest on the planet. If it were an occassional treat, knock yourself out. Sadly however, this has become a daily diet for some people. That and soda. When I was growing up, soda was an occassional treat for birthdays or holidays. Now it seems people drink it everyday like it were water. No wonder so many people are now diabetics or well on their way to being one. Take some responsibility for what you put in your mouths as it has a direct relation to what happens to you down the road.
Shut up and get laid you need it.
Oh go live in your double wide and fry something you ignorant hick. when you develop type ii diabetes, dont' go crying to your doctor that you can't afford your meds as it was self inflicted.
After reading your post, I understand why God made you a Celiac. It's called karma.
You studied art and sculpture at college and it looks like that?
Guess you'll be giving thanks for your ability to judge others this Thanksgiving.
It's an OPINION jerk.....not a judgement...which of course is just what YOU did...
Hostess closed it's doors for good ! Rhett had the Best Sweet treats :,-(
This is so cute. I wish I had thought of making one of these. Now I don't have time. Very clever.
