As cynical as this will probably sound, nearly everything made by Hostess is replicated by someone else in the competitive mass market bakery industry. However, Hostess is a massively powerful icon of youth to all of us who grew up in the 60's and 70's...a real shame!
HOSTESS... when will the media report..that while the company was trying to cut workers pay by 8% and benefits by 32% the CEO gave himself a raise or 300% (from $750,000 to $2,250.00) and 9 executives
received pay raises between 60 and 10%% WHILE the company was going through their 2nd Bankruptcy! Meanwhile the stopped paying into the employees retirement fund and owe it $160 milion Dollars! Why is the media blaming the 18,000 workers who on average made less than $20.00 per hour?
Its a true tragedy that another American "icon" is going out of business because the guys at the top want to squeeze the guys at the bottom out of work because they don't want to pay for benefits! Ridiculous but true
Where's Obama now? Why isn't The Twinkle worthy of a government bailout? 18,500 bakery jobs not as important as Detroit jobs? Wonder who they voted for?

Shame on you CNN! How about reporting the FULL story! The CEO's salary went from $750,000 to $2.55 million this year and nine other top executives received 80% pay increases. And you are blaming the little guy?! This company has a history of mismanagement–mergers and bankruptcies–that has only added to its debt. The managers are grossly overpaid considering the company's finances.
Hmmmmm...sounds like Romney got ahold of Hostess.

Well a new black market has emerged for Twinkies, I saw an add in Eastern Connecticut on craigslist under "general" asking 75.00 for a hostess brand work shirt and a bow of Twinkies, I think they didn't ask enough!!!
The only market is for hoarders who think people are going to want to buy twinkies in a year.

America is losing another "foundation" that has built this country. Very sad situation and especially for all the workers.
I don't care about the snacks going out of business. They're dead nutrition for the body anyway. What are all those workers gonna do about losing their jobs? 18,500? That's insane.
Twinkies are still available in Canada where they are made by Saputo. No problem there.
Why can't they ship Twinkies to the US? Hostess no longer makes them, so I doubt anyone would really care.
What is wrong with these people? Twinkies, cupcakes and wonder bread is what I grew up on. Bakers and company need to get it together to perserve this great company. I know that there is a lot of people out there that love these treats and we need to back them up, BUY BUY more and more. We need to keep this company in business because it is a part of American culture. Come on people back me up on this. Love Twinkies.
Some company will come along and buy 'em up. We won't be without Twinkies.
