Saying farewell to one's nearest and dearest and preparing a howdy-do to to one's eternal fate is pretty grim business; might as well face it on a full stomach. Anthony Bourdain, host of the new CNN show Parts Unknown, has a destination in mind.
Ahh yes, it would definitely be a blow out steak dinner. A beautiful medium rare bone-in fillet mignon from Morton's Steak House in Portland, garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed portabella mushrooms, a side ceasar salad, all accompanied by a fantastic dram of scotch... maybe The Macallan 18, or Highland Park 18. That would be the way to go – savoring my favorite flavors and pairings.
But more importantly, it would be shared with the ones I love the most. My fiance, my family, my closest friends.... yeah, a great meal is fantastic and all, but it means nothing in comparison to people in my life.
I would bet he would go to Sicily. He seems to really love Italian food.
My last meal would be a complete thanksgiving dinner for 12 people, but instead of eating it iI would want it given to hungry poor children. Never hurts to do something nice afore ya conk out. : )
We need more critics like Marilyn Hagerty who critiqued the Olive Garden in Grand Forks, North Dakota, in earnest. She and her readers would have been blown away by the offerings on the menu because THEY'RE THE TARGET MARKET!
