Twinkie-maker Hostess Brands said Monday that it could go into liquidation if its bakers continue striking in protest against a new contract imposed in bankruptcy court. The company announced Monday that it was closing bakeries in Seattle, St. Louis and Cincinnati in response to the strike, cutting 627 jobs in total. The bakers' strike, which began last week, continued Monday at around 24 of Hostess' 36 plants, and Hostess CEO Greg Rayburn said the firm could close more bakeries or even move into liquidation if workers don't return to their jobs soon. The bakers' union represents roughly 5,600 of the 18,500 workers at Hostess, according to Rayburn. He did not have an estimate for the number of workers on strike, but claimed that some had crossed picket lines to keep certain plants operational. One other thing I would like to state is that instead of trying to match all your online degree programs on days of the week that you finish off work (as most people are worn out when they return home), try to obtain most of your lessons on the saturdays and sundays and only 1 or 2 courses for weekdays, even if it means a little time off your saturday and sunday. This is beneficial because on the saturdays and sundays, you will be far more rested as well as concentrated upon school work. Thanks for the different suggestions I have mastered from your weblog. news feed http://cnn?84739
Why aren't they reporting about the executives' bonuses and head of the company's 300% raise? Such bs!
The failure of Hostess is proof of what I have suspected all along. Little Debbie – ripper offer of many Hostess products – is actually the spawn of the satan. (The straw hat must be there to cover up that embarrassing 666 birthmark.)
We had a company called Red Wing potteries in the 1960s which the union struck, and the company went bankrupt and never went into business. That is a shame. However, no one who makes a living running a company, would put that business out of business, unless they plenty of cash to cover future expenses. Someone might be lying, or hiding the cash flow.
Go to BCTGM facebook site to find the real story , Hostess ceo's are vultures ,
Here in Detroit, the Hostess or Wonder Bread plant, I forget which one, was turned into a casino. Do not think for a minute their management wont close it down. Back in the day, a job with Hostess or Wonder Bread was a great job to have up here.
Good luck to all you IBC workers...personally, I'd go for the paycheck.
They do not have to close down....let them bring the jobs down south under new management where the unemployment rate is the highest. We will be more than happy to work.
Much solidarity and love to Twinkie Baker's! Y'all make the best desert and if you are being mistreated, I don't want to eat Twinkee's with cut off fingers in them! To the bosses and all those they paid to comment on this site, "get lost!" Twinkees would be better without you–and a lot cheaper. Go ruin Hostess Cupcakes or some other business. Hands off our Twinkee's. Go IBC Bakery!
Get used to life under Obama's second term.
As if Hostess were not already facing serious problems before 2008... (And do you really think that if McCain had been elected this would have made any difference at all?) Get off the hate and ignorance thing. Fox has you brainwashed.
The deadline has come and gone but they won't announce anything until friday morning. To all the Bakery Union workers GO BACK to WORK suck it up you selfish People. I Don't want to loose My house. YOU bunch of dummys. Your Union leaders are wrong They can't fine you there is no such provision in the payroll deductions for fines!!!!!!!!
You guys are crazy! Never going to find work! mard d's comment was right on! You will be SORRY!
Ditto !
180,000 people could loose their jobs! Great for a growing economy! Be F'n Happy you have jobs! Suck it up! Look for another job if you think you will get one! LOL! unemployment don't last forever! You will loose your home eventually like I did! Don't be stupid!!!!!!
You can't have your cake and eat it too idiots.
Yeah, big unions.....go on strike so the plant closes down and you lose your job.....that'll show them! How's that hope and change working out for you?
Right...because Faux News said that President Obama invented unions well before there was ever such a person as Jimmy Hoffa. Idgit.
No, never said Obama invented unions, but the Democratic party supports them. How's that looking right about now? As for Hoffa, didn't work out too well for him either. Go on back to PMSnbc and Rachel Madcow, their village is missing an idiot.
Bout time they struck. The IBC bakery in Rocky Mount NC was an endless shuffle of BS from management. Always understaffed to save money but spend thousands to get the floor in maintenance dept. painted. Top heavy with 'supervisors' most with snotty attitudes.
I feel that it is a disgrace that the Teamsters organization of the Bakery Unions would allow itsself to be used to as a tool to bust out another Local. In this day and time good unions are vital, especially because some employers will not be fair with their employees. I would say to the Teamsters, you can probably be next! I only hope that other Locals will be there to help you!!! The message that the Teamsters are sending to other Locals is, you are on your own! Two bankruptcies, and they still don't have it together, says to me, they did not want to get it together. Some just wanted to line their pockets and to hell with the rest!
I thought it took over a thousand years for Twinkies to liquidate ...
BINGO!
