Talk about sticky-fingered thieves. They've struck in Quebec, snatching millions of dollars worth of maple syrup from a warehouse in Saint-Louis-de-Blandford, a rural area between Montreal and Quebec City. Up to 10 million pounds of syrup was in the warehouse, Canadian media reported, citing a statement from the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers, which bills itself as keeper of the the global strategic maple syrup reserve. “We know that it’s millions of dollars that was stolen,” Sgt. Richard Gagné is quoted as saying. “It’s a very large amount.” Read - Millions of dollars in maple syrup stolen Previously in syrup-related crimes: |

The theft was well-organized and carried out flawlessy, it seems. They'll probably never catch the people who did it. Good old American gangster know-how at work here.
Sounds funny at first wen you hear a strategic reserve of maple syrup but consider that Quebec alone makes over 75% of the world's maple syrup you can understand why there's a reason to have a reserve of it given if there is a bad or a good year which is quite possible. Springs that get warm too fast tend to give lower yields.
Overheard in a tunnel in Afghanistan: "Dammit Muhommed, I said, 'Remove the iridium cable stirrup', not 'remove the Canadians' maple syrup'! Ever since that last malfunction, you've become the worst bomb-vest tester EVER!!"
Yaaaargh, I be the CNN Comment Pirate and me come here to make a political comment on this story that be far removed from the American political process. I blame it on Obama and the liberals. YARGH!
I guess it must only be in Canada where one can say with a straight face that they regard their business as the "...keeper of the global maple syrup strategic reserve..." RAOTGLMFAO
Nobody move! This is a stickup!
Oops! I used a bad word......".WHITE". And now I'm being "moderated". So much for the First Amendment, huh?
What in the name of christ makes you think that the first amendment applies to you making a comment on CNN?
Inside job.
Guaranteed.
.
well syrup must have a street value for some other purpose than making a ton of pancakes taste yummy:). Why steal syrup?
If you haven't tasted the yellow gold of Canadian maple syrup then you've never had good maple syrup. I live in Canada and this maple syrup is quite expensive but surely worth every penny. I dare you to try it if you can now find some.
The global strategic maple syrup reserve?
I learn something new every day!
i thought 'wow, who knew?"
The thieves won't leggo of your Eggo- they stole waffles to put the stolen syrup on!
Better check the Quaker Oats dude and the Cream of Wheat guy. I think they are hiding something behind those smiles.
You can't fool me, this is a conspiracy between Aunt Jemina and Mrs. Butterworth to control the maple syrup supply of Canada and the United States.
Can't imagine why'd they'd be remotely concerned.....there's not a drop of real maple syrup in either one
of those terrible products......
No, Mrs. Butterworth seems like the prime suspect. Behind that gentle grandmotherly exterior beats the heart of a stone cold killer.
Let them eat pancake... without syrup.
I'm not profiling, but you might want to talk to aunt Jemima.
Aunt Jamima syrup is like dish water compared to the wonderful CANADIAN maple syrup. Don't knock it till you try it.
