The White House often extends dinner invitations to its friends across the globe – from Downing Street to Hollywood Boulevard – the executive branch rolls out its own version of the red carpet hosting State Dinners for queens and kings, prime ministers and other heads of state. But this time, the invitations were not intended for the likes of Queen Elizabeth or George Clooney and the attendees who arrived at the White House on Monday were not commanders of countries or glitterati. In fact many of them stood less than five feet tall, girls in breezy summer dresses, hair adorned with bows or flowers and boys clothed in crisp white shirts, ties knotted tightly at their necks. As they walked across the tiled floor, pausing to give interviews to the press, many of them were surprisingly confident despite their short stature and lack of political sway. Did anyone read the article about eating disorders in children. Apparently the number of children with eating disorders is growing and the age of the children is getting younger. All the talk about obesity is having a negative impact and encouraging the disorders. So all Mrs. Obama's focus on weight is having an impact! And apparently the "eat right" doesn't apply to her husband – I hear his favorite food is cheese burgers.
That's very cool and a great experience for the children. I would have liked that be done when I was their age.
This initiative supports healthier eating, not just among the 54 kids, but among thousands of other children who also participated in the program. The preventative health benefit could be well worth it in the long run. This is well worth the cost. Of course, some people will never be happy.
How much of taxpayer's money was spent? 54 kids eating dinner are supposed to inspire a whole generation? I think not. What a waste!!
How predictable. Yep, this set every person in America back maybe 1 millionth of a cent. Ronald Reagan hosted 57 state dinners. I'm sure every one of them was vitally important to National Security.
Get a grip and maintain some semblance of focus! ~$300 million of YOUR money is spent each day in Afghanistan. More $400 billion of YOUR money was spent bailing out banks that basically gambled with YOUR money and are now making record profits with none of them showing remorse. A small dinner in the interest of promoting a healthy diet and lifestyle is the least of YOUR problems. Focus...geez.
More ignorant conservatives whining about "wasting taxpayers money" when its not waste at all and far more was spent in the past.
Doesn't matter how much it cost because the first family is sent a bill for all food and drink consumed by them or their guests. And since security, staff, and the president are all salaried. The 3hours or so that this dinner spanned cost you the same as if the dog Bo was allowed to watch a marathon of Animal Police on Animal Planet.
Spot on, dude.
Michele you are the best !!!!!!!!!!!! the children that were there will remember this forever. I LOVE YOU AND MY PRESIDENT 4 more years 4 more years no matter what some of these fools say God Loves you and So Do I !!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU GOD for bringing your child to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
do you all ever see any positive in anything that is done!!! Apparently not, this is something that can be inspriing to other children. This is more than I have seen previous 1st ladies do.....how about that....
Seems like an absolute waste of tax payers money!!!
Ah yes, helping and educating children is INDEED wasting taxpayers money. Lets shut down all the schools next.
Oh and all those old people wasting taxpayers money let cut off all their social security and medicare as well they are wothless people who don't contribute to societ.
Once again everone, another ignorant conservative. You would think ignorance would decrease with time but it only increases with the crust on these old white men
I bet you wouldn't say that if your child was there. You'd be giddy with excitement, taking pictures and smiling all over the place.
So make sure if you child comes to you excited to submit an entry for a chance to go to the white house you them him/her that they cant because its a waste of your tax dollars, then send them off to go do their homework for that socially funded school system.
Hey, got to get that liberal indoctrination started young...
Yes, check out our insidious new liberal mantra : "Eat right!". Downright sinister.
Look, what do you know yet ANOTHER ignorant conservative. This one, a conspiracy theorist who probably reads infowars and is an alex jones fan.
That is awesome. I bet those kids (and their parents) were thrilled. Encouraging youngsters to eat right and exercise. You cannot argue with that premise. I love our First Lady!!
OBAMA/BIDEN/FIRST LADY MICHELLE 2012!!!
