 Oil companies drilling in the drought-ridden fields of southern Kansas are taking desperate measures to get the water they need to tap into the state's oil reserves. Huge amounts of water are required to extract oil, especially when companies use hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, which requires millions of gallons of water to crack the shale rock and bring oil to the surface. But now that the entire state is in emergency drought status, with only 1.19 inches of rainfall last month - the 10th driest July on record - unprecedented water shortages are making it difficult for drillers to get the water they need. Why have we let ourselves be brainwashed into thinking it's "nutty" to want our habitat clean, safe and maybe even beautiful? When we have these same standards for our own homes it's considered a virtue. But if you don't like a filthy mess outside of your property line you're suddenly an environmentalist nut.
please don't misconsture what I meant. I live in the country and garden sustainably so I don't have to buy produce that travels 1500 miles to my local grocery store, options have also become availible so I can buy from local meat sellers. Any time i mention any of this people automatically call me an enviromentalist nut. I don't really believe that fracking is going to help do anything but destroy the environment and cause massive problems for a lot of peoples health. And really you have to admit that there are some environmental nuts out there that are totally in the left field and that is not what i am.
not that I am trying to sound like an environmentalist nut or anything but doesn't it seem like that if these companies are having to truck water in from PA that they should probably stop? Its bad enough that the surrounding areas are ruined from the massive amount of machinery that is need to drill, bu tnow were going to to destroy the environments of other areas to sustain this drilling?...awesome.
