Not to spill the beans, but July 3 is Eat Your Beans Day!
Lest you forget, there’s a whole day to remind you to eat your favas, cowpeas and lentils. Packed with protein and fabulously versatile, beans can be used in as many different ways as there are varieties. They're also easy to store dried or fresh, and are naturally high in fiber, which lowers cholesterol.
Most people wouldn’t think that chickpeas and edamame (soybeans) are also considered legumes, but they are - and both make excellent hummus to boot. Add some tahini, or sesame paste, lemon juice and olive oil and you’ve got a quick summertime snack that’s sure to please.
Beans, beans, the musical fruit.
The more you eat, the more you toot.
The more you toot, the better you feel!
So lets have beans at every meal!
Just be careful of the shart.
