World-renowned chef, bestselling author and Emmy winning television personality Anthony Bourdain will join CNN as host of a new weekend program, creating a signature showcase for the network’s coverage of food and travel. The announcement was made by CNN Worldwide Executive Vice President and Managing Editor, Mark Whitaker. “For more than a decade, Anthony Bourdain has been a trailblazer in educating Americans about different cuisines and cultures around the world, as well as an outspoken commentator on social trends ranging from the rise of celebrity chefs to the impact of fast food chains to the spread of vegetarianism and veganism,” said Whitaker. “Examining the world through the prism of Tony’s unique expertise and passions continues CNN’s long-standing commitment to international reporting and to promoting global understanding.” Read - Anthony Bourdain Joins CNN to Host New Weekend Program Previously - Q & A: Anthony Bourdain, back in Beirut and Q & A part 2: Anthony Bourdain talks food love and family meals |

Checf Anthony would approve of this Mac and Cheese song:
I LOVE Anthony Bourdain–entertaining & informative writer, always interesting TV shows. His French Bistro cookbook is still one of my most useful & entertaining cookbooks. Love the ways he calls it as he sees it, & skewers all the pompous food twits. I know some of the gory carnivore details gross people out–but the reality is that Americans today are for the most part totally removed from & uninvolved in where their food originates & how it is produced. Those fancy filets in the market case were not conceived in tidy little plastic wrappers AND the rest of the world is not as able as we to be picky about the sources of their protein.
He is stylish and charismatic so some Americans have problem to accept him.....and he smokes and drinks little bit.
Hard to swallow.
I am thrilled.....love Anthony; II like this guy for telling it like it is. I have a lot of respect for him, watch all his shows and thoroughly enjoy them. Can't wait to see him on CNN.
How utterly fortunate for CNN to have scored Tony. Despite his glaring "humanity" - which he could easily hide to his advantage - he shows us heart, soul, compassion, thoughtfulness, curiosity, analysis, history and insight into the oyster of the wider world in which we are citizens.
Foodies posing as critics and experts invade our televisions and offer subjective opinions. Bourdain opines based on medical expertise (Paula Dean needed a wake-up call), historical facts (nary an episode of No Reservations is without that education), and stated bias (pork) which is freely admitted. He does not judge cultures, rather immerses himself into them for the sake of knowledge.
Yes, I have become enamored with Bourdain as a journalist and a well-rounded human being. His honesty makes me wish he were part of my closely-held select circle of friends/advisors/soul mates. He would fit right in.
Have any of you critics bothered to try some of his recommendations? Recently in Boston I tried the Belle Island Seafood he recommended and had the best lobster roll thanks to him (reviewed on Yelp and TripAdvisor). Spot-on, as always.
Anthony Bourdain in an excellent addition to CNN. He's a great cook and his programs are fun to watch. Welcome Tony!!
love his programs, he has done very well, very educational, humorous well done,,
you guys are fools. Quit hating on his success.
I agree
I have NO use for Bourdain – he's always struck me as a dirty-mouthed, alcoholic, jerk who lives to knock down everyone else – I'll let everyone else watch him walk on water.
Well said, this guy has a huge ego, why who knows, he does nothing well
Nancy,
I find interesting that you see him that way, in particular, because I'm very attuned to those types of things. I can't stand narcissists, egocentrists, and the like. But I never saw Bourdain as being remotely in the worst of that league. Granted, my only experience/knowledge of him is about 10-15 episodes of his "No Reservations" show, but he never struck me as one of those genuinely odious celebrities with un-nuanced big egos (e.g., Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, Tom Cruise, etc.) - perhaps, because he often genuinely came across as being self-deprecating, to me.
Hear, hear!
Anthony Bourdain is the best, entertaining and stylish... All what most of you other Americans are not so you don't like him.
Viva hate. 5 stars for Bourdain.
Dearest Martin,
You're right! How dare we ugly, unsophisticated, bloated Americans criticize Anthony B. We are ALL simple, uneducated brutes with no sense of style, taste or panache, but at least we typically wear deodorant and tend to shower regularly. At least we have that going for us.
Cliched as it is, you apparently know what you're talking about. Thank you for reminding us of how tragically flawed the US is in every way. Curious how so many of the obviously superior cultures from every corner of the globe seem to still flock here, with the seeming intention of remaking it in the images of the very places they left? That is just strange, considering how utopic the rest of the world is...
Sincerely,
Brutish American #301,511,155
PS: For the record,I have seen every single episode of No Reservations and read Kitchen Confidential years ago, before he even had the show. Yes, he's a bit snobby and silly and tries too hard to be late-70s NYC cool, but I find it endearing, in a he's-like-my-eccentric-uncle fashion.
PPS: The episode in Cali high desert with QOTSA, is one of the very best productions I've ever seen on TV.
Vive le Bourdain!!!!
Heroin for everyone! It's cool to be a drug addict if you're hip!
I love Anthony. Especially when discussing his indiscretions. I just wish he would be a bit nicer when discussing Paula Dean and Rachel Ray. I like them all.
Three words for this guy:
Arrogant, Narcissistic, Azzhole.
almost forgot, I bet he beats women, too.
He eats like a pig too... hate to see him eating YUCK!!
Agreed! The guy has no class and he smokes too!! He must be a liberal though if CNN hired him!!
Wow, just WOW. "You bet he beats on women too"?
It's pretty easy to make anonymous accusations from behind the anonymity of the internet.
Why can't you just say that you don't like him instead of including baseless accusations?
Great News! A new show, a bigger audience for Tony and a bunch of pi$sed of Tea Baggers! The triffecta! Does it get an better than this?
Hm, so the same Anthony Bourdain that heavily ridicules other chefs for being high profile on tv, now works for CNN? What page is the receipe for hyopcrite on Tony?
I like Tony, he's sarcastic funny. Why he would demean himself by working for cnn, I don't know.
Boycott Anthony Bourdain and any advertisers that sponsor his CNN program.
After Bourdain's recent pistol shots to a pigs head, that left the aninmal organically alive to be bled and gutted as Bourdain preened for the 'No Reservations"-New Orleans video, there is no reason to accept Bourdain as resonable or entertaining.
If CNN wants to celebrate cuisine or cultural cooking, need they bring it to the audience with a buffoon that glories in bad shooting and ineffective slaughter?
Bourdain is not a man suitable for the times that respect animal life and its rightfull taking when appropriate.
Killing by imbecile is not cuisine.
Does CNN support and endorse Bourdain's bad pistol shots to a pigs head?
If so, do you support CNN and its advertisers.
Make your voices heard.
I'm glad I didn't see that! Boycott this slob...
CNN stooped to a very low level hiring this jerk. I watched some of hie travel channel shows that showcased international foods. As my friends will attest, I am a long way from a prude but I quit watching due to his foul mouth. I assume his regular use of the F bomb was for emphasis. It didn't work well for me. Lots of words blipped out in those shows. CNN needs to get their blipper ready. It will get heavy use.
saying "h e double hockey sticks" still makes you a prude
No doubt about it. You're a prude.
Great. Maybe he can afford a toothbrush now
When asked if he had any doubts about the new job, he replied: "No reservations".
in other news, Adam Richman was made the CNN czar of portion control....
I used to watch his shows, and even enjoyed his sarcastic grumpiness, until on one show he called someone a fat f*** for not walking up an escalator. He stopped being amusing at that point and was simply an a-hole. Good luck CNN. Someday he'll be trashing you on another channel just like he trashes Food Network now.
Could CNN have chosen a worse picture for this guy? Terrible......
So Mr. Potty Mouth has finally made the big time... Travel Channel was beeping out his every other word...
LOL. "Potty mouth"? Who talks like that? What are you, 90?
I had no idea bourdain was such a lightning rod for radical right hate..........
it is so freakin funny to see folks hating on his assumed politics calling him pompous ..........
you gotta be kidding , a TV personality ... pompous??? NOOOOOOO! and rush and his ilk aren't waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past pompous??????
bourdains a bit of a bore but the locations are great, don't follow it or anything but his show seems harmless and fun enough. I can't imagine why this guy would be come a target to the haters
oh wait that's right I once heard him say the worlds greatest band was the ramones.........
the freakin ramones!!!
THAT is hard to stomach
OK wild and crazy "values" types he's all yours chew up and roll around in your hate and anger all over him
he deserves it
the ramones for god's sake..........
Why are making this a right vs. left issue? Wouldn't it be more of a cultural issue? I lean right and I find Anthony Bourdain hilarious. But then again, I grew up in the same part of New Jersey so I get his shtick.
Did he learn some new adjectives (besides "good" and "interesting")?
Nnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...............................
Indeed......indeed.
i really like his work thus far, but i really don't see this as a good direction. i hope for his sake they are writing one hell of a check for this.
Lame. I can't stand this sneering, condescending, pompous jerk.
Not everyone can. But then again that's what makes picking and choosing what to like so appealing. Anyway, I'm sure you still enjoy other things in life – like things that don't involve trolling around the internet hating.
So why are you paying attention to CNN in the first place?
I wonder if Mr Bourdain had to claim leftist political leanings in order gain employment by CNN.
Nope. Probably only one requirement – to willingly admit that he hates MOX News Corp.
CNN's politics range from center right to extreme right. You're just upset because they aren't bull-goose wingnut tea-party right
In all reality, CNN just fried some Rocky Mountain Oysters with a little Blue cheese dressing as a side dish against the traditional News Channels. Tony will add a different thought and New Ideas concerning food and obesity among your Fat AZZ kids.
Agreed friend. I only hope you don't end up being trolled by Paula's upteen million fans. Stay safe bud – they're everywhere!
Thanks, but I use REAL Butter and they will just slide off, kinda like Paula's makeup within 5 minutes of being applied.
me <- Actually laughing. Here's hoping people learn a thing or two about the same reputable cynicism that tore Paula a new one.
I've never had a TransVaginalMesh smile back at me with such pearly whites before. Should I call an attorney or a Dentist? Decisions, Decisions....
I am so disgusted with this guy. I can not believe this guy has gotten the press he has received. From the moment his filthy snotty book(?) came out and he bragged about his chef did the bride over a barrel in back of a restaurant he worked at I have had nothing but contempt for this guy.
My chefs, Master Chefs and Master Sommeliers, one a World Master Sommeliers, taught me discretion at all times. Do not ever wear my Chef's Coat out side before or after work. I have not seen one thing from this guy Bourdain to make me think for one second that he deserves such praise, adulation or press. His opinions are as bath water, dirty and gross, they should be thrown out.
He has no respect for food or the restaurant business. To put this guy on CNN, well whatever, not that I have much respect for CNN either, but Rolling Stone actually interviewed him, THAT is a travesty and should never occur. Bourdaini is a travesty and doesn't deserve Rolling Stone, he isn't even at foodie level, he belongs in the barrel, the bride was over.
Get over yourself! He's a Chef who drinks, smokes, travels and says what's on his mind (HONESTLY) not caring what the snooty side of the industry thinks. That is very refreshing. He has never pretended to be "proper". He is who he is and I can guarantee he has many more interesting/entertaining stories than you.
Exactly Scruff........nevr said he was and say's what's on his mind. His books are a joy to read.
Listen I get that you take to the net-waves to share you obvious disdain, and that's not at all a bad thing. My only criticism is that you over share when you clearly don't have to. I propose that you faintly disappear into a pale and long eternal nothing. Well that or at least render a brain a chance to understand that his book and satire is pure entertainment. ENTERTAINMENT. Take it or leave it. I suggest you go with the eternal nothing bit. you = *pwned*...
you are jealous.
excuse me? i'm a Chef! and i'm sorry your snotty world doesn't correlate with the reality of the business like Bordain has exemplified. And as far as i know, nobody has even come close. The guy is a better writer than a Chef perhaps. But so what? Thats why he was hired. Now go get the sand out of your V^Gina and wash those dishes you whiny little b*t%h!
Dusty King is jealous 'cuz the Barrel wasn't in his supposed Kitchen and Bend Over Betty wasn't the Special Dessert on the Menu.
And for the record, i still propose that you faintly disappear into a pale and long eternal nothing. :)
translation: blah blah blah Im a narrow minded prude
The foulmouthed drunk will fit in well at CNN. His anti-American viewpoints will fit in as well.
Anti American viewpoints? Explain please. Is it because he travels to countries of Muslim heritages? It's an educational show….. try to broaden your horizens!
Nothing to do with Muslim countries. Watch his shows from S E Asia. He makes Jane Fonda seem almost patriotic .
So your a PIG VET? Never saw him abuse or say anything Bad about Hanoi Jane or any of her followers such as yourself.
His shows have nothing to do with politics (other than to ask questions- culture related) but glad you turned to that. They are about the culture of a specific country and yes, he's been to "the countries" in SE Asia. So has Samantha Brown and Andrew Zimmern.
I just returned from a month in Viet Nam and I've got a news flash for you: the war is over. Most Vietnamese were not even born when it ended. Their lives are SO much better (and their economy, too) than they were under the gangster warlords of Saigon that there is no comparison possible.
The food's great, too.
This from a Viet Nam combat vet. The good guys won for once.
Now there is a guy who likes to watch TV with S**T colored glasses.
Now, now Paula, lets not get all carried away with your obvious sentiments. As someone who has both served the armed forces, and had the privilege of meeting Mr. Bourdain, I can assure you he means no ill will or has any "Anti-American" standpoints. While he may be a little "depressed" with certain facets of American culture, his obvious love for this county should go unchallenged. You sir have just been *pwned*.
Great. A drunk, drug abuser is now a "proud member of the family." Wow CNN. You have sunk to new levels of low. Very low. Why not hire Hitler's ghost to pen a few stories?
You must be kidding! Anthony Bourdain.......
You must be a fan of Paula Deen!
No. Non deserving, even to be a fan of Paula's. This idiot troll is just hemorrhaging ignorance.
So because someone has or does use drugs and alcohol....they shouldn't be allowed to do better than you? please tell us more about your theories on life.
this is a pretty stand up guy who tells it like it is. I can vouch for him. You all dont know squat about the guy. Get over it, CNN should be proud to have a writer of his caliber who, i'm sorry knows more about food than all of you F*CK$ combined!
when you're done judging... maybe your ignorance can be persuaded through Mr. Bourdain's brilliance in his writing rather than weighing your opinion on alternative lifestyles.
**yawn** Big fat whoopty do. He's showing signs of selling out...a la Sting and Bono style. The CNN show should be the death knell of his career.
This is the rudest man on television. When I worked for Montana State University, he was a "paid" guest at their annual auction. He was rude, rude, and rude. He said some very ungentlemanly things about a very popular chef on the Food Network. He must have thought that people in Montana were just ignorant cowpokes. I was so shocked that he would voice such negativity in public. Unfortunately, the Athletic Department, who hosted this piece of garbage, thought he was great and had a good laugh over the slur – so goes the boy’s club mentality. Well, don’t we all know how low athletic departments can sink? I guess CNN has jumped on the lower than low bandwagon.
Look at it this way. He didn't mock your spelling.
He's an acquired taste. Either you like his edge and INSECURITIES or you do not. He my also do better with cooked pork than with people but he likes the sames urban backstops that i do.
So you want to give someone grief about spelling then misspell your post ???? LOL… ROFL Way to go Cowboy!!!
Grow some skin and learn to take criticism. Thats what he did, most good chefs will tell you that.
Another liberal. Never would have guess that one!
You say that like it's a BAD thing.
Anthony Bourdain welcome!
I can't wait. I only hope he holds on to some of the same writers and production crew from N/R. Welcome to the fold Mr. Bourdain! Into the fray my friend. Prepare to be a hero on a much larger scale...
They were made for each other.
when you think CNN cannot get any lower
I AGREE!...... Now I will delete CNN from my bookmarks. What a pompous, boorish ASS!
This is outrageous. CNN rewards Anthony Bourdain's cruel mistreatment of Rainbow Dash from the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic by giving him a job?!
THE BRONIES WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS
BRONIES UNITE!
Bronies? Losers….. If you guys think this guy is kewl … that is pretty damn sad.
arent you just the biggest pile of mush! go peel your carrots in your silent solitude and dont come out.
For the record, Eatocracy is Pro Bronies & we will totes wrassle Bourdain over the issue of pony-eating. Unicorns, however...sorry, Twilight Sparkle. You are too wonderfully delicious to live.
He called a dish "Rainbow Dash". Big deal.
You never read the infamous Cupcakes fic? You know... The one where Pinkie Pie harvests RD's organs to use as cupcake ingredients...?
It's perfectly acceptable to name a dish after a character.
I have no reservations about this...
He's an arrogant, self serving, alcoholic egomaniac. CNN can have him.
It's rather hilarious to see people like you getting so worked up about it. Just don't watch the program, killjoy.
Wow. A self gratifying dose of brainless reasoning. How exactly does someone like you make a valid point without attacking? Ahhh... I reserve a much harsher and very striking attack. Lucky you.
Welcome to CNN, even that means missing you from Travel Chanel. It is a kind of better-sweet for me, Antony.
strange how food network no longer cooks. It's all competitions now
Well, as soon as he moves to CNN- I'll stop watching him. I hate CNN more than I like Anthony B.
Why are you wasting your time on this site then?
yet here you are reading CNN's website. idiot.
Waaa, waaa. Look at this irrelevant complainer.
If he was atheist, this wouldn't have happened
A day of reckoning against trolls that steal other peoples name is coming since school is out. Your Mama wants you to clean the basement and wash your nasty underwear, with your tongue,AzzHat.
I hear some complain about Tony selling out. Apparently many of you have never read his books. Tony has made no appologies about selling out from day one. There are certain things he will never do for money and if you know Tony you generally know what they are...
My condolences to Tony. I hope that this doesn't mean you aren't still with the Food Network.
I'm hoping this is sarcasm, since his show is on the Travel Channel. He's not a Foodnetwork guy, hence the reason he talks smack about anyone that has a show on there.
Food Network and Travel Channel are owned by the same network overlords.
Everyone in America is owned by overlords.
The owners of Food Network bought the travel channel. Really not kidding. Google it. :(
i believe he's made appearances on episodes of the next food network star as well
Nooooooo! I liked his show on the Travel Channel. CNN...WHY?
$ perhaps?
Well, I liked him fine until he doubled down on Paula Deen. Kinda cheesed me off ~ there was no need for it. So I guess I won't be watching him on CNN, either.
I TOTALLY agree with you, LeighVA. I WAS a big fan of Anthony's for MANY years...I enjoiyed his sarcasm, sense of humor, and the glimpse he gave me of areas of the world I know I never will be able to visit.....BUT when he came out with those comments about Paula Dean, THAT really turned me off. BIG time :(
yep.
I agree. He can mouth off about Paula Dean and the way she cooks but yet this guy smokes and drinks way too much on his tv traveling programs.
He stopped smoking 5 years ago. Watch the show a lot do ya?
Agree with both of you. I loved his show and watched it faithfully until his rant on Paula. And then I read back to other comments he'd made about different people on Food Network. Sour apples, most likely. He lost me as a viewer then. Won't be reading anything he writes (or videos) for CNN, either.
Great for CNN. One of my favorite people in the world.
Back in the basement Azzhat,Your Mama is calling.
Gawd. You probably share dentures with your partner, live in a trailer and shop at Walmart, too. He doesn't hate Paula anymore than Trump hates Blowsie O'Donnell. It's all hype to get you to watch their TV shows. Grow up people.
It's 2012 goons, not the 1950's. Way to step up CNN. GO TONY!!!!!!
Tell 'em, baby. Obama and Bourdain in 2012!
His act of selling out is now complete.
Meh. He jumped the shark when he kissed the rear of that fraud Ted Nugent.
That WAS pretty disgusting and basically unforgivable.
So what can we expect? Something like 'No Reservations', but with less swearing, drinking, political incorrectness, and humor?
Thats my man ....umm I mean my second man, the first is my spouse!
You have very low standards.
Mr. Positive here.
CNN, Will you please stop hiring every narcissist you can find to fill your ranks? We, the Public, are getting tired of being subjected to every giant ego in your half journalist/half show biz types....it is getting really old.
So feel free to quit logging onto CNN.com, Smart McFool.
@Justin, I think I hear your mommy calling you in for dinner time. Better hurry, little girl! It's Mac and Cheese night!
Did you really think that was a comeback?
DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK, I'VE BEEN HERE FOR YEARS.
I recommend research or at least knowing the person, before typing any comments here. Anthony is a legend and you are a foul.
Mike, I've watched Bourdain's show and seen him on interviews. I stand by my original comment. Sensible Americans are tired of these giant egomaniacs "in our face" at every turn.
I just absolutely cannot bear to watch this individual on The Travel Channel. I seriously doubt that changing to CNN will make me or anyone else like him.
Please make sure the theme song for the show is Billy Joel's "Movin' Out". As far as the rest of the show goes, pair him up with Kelly Ripa when talking about food, and Howard Stern when talking about culture.
lol
great choice, perhaps he can replace the 'news anchor' at 10pm weekend nights.
WHAT WOULD JUSTIN BIEBER DO??
Does that finally mean i can use some profanity and not get censored!!! Anthony Rocks!!!
Tony's my favorite age-ed alcoholic, he's not really a chef though, more of a drunken line cook.
Yes... definitely a welcomed addition for the week-end.
Despite the fact that Anthony Bourdain looks as if he needs to be flea dipped, he is entertaining and I love his show. He will have to clean up his act a bit for the network but I'm happy he will have a wider audience. I was turned off at first but now am addicted.
One more thing, I hope CNN will send him to the dentist, please.
You smoke too much
You're watching re-runs. He quit years ago when he had a kid.
The gastronomic glutton rides again!
We could deal with Paula Deen's voice much better......Ha....Keep on keepin' real Anthony!
So you can insult anyone you like and, in the case of another CNN host, hack the phones of people to get a story, but Rick Sanchez gets fired for hinting that–truthfully–the media is run by Jews.
And then his Jewish boss fires him, proving his point. And no other network will hire him.
Mark Twain said it best: "Tell the truth, and then run like hell."
Why does CNN persist in hiring objectionable on-the-air talent. Elliott Spitzer, how did that work for you? Piers Morgan, how has he done filling Larry King's shoes? And now this pompous ego-maniac? Whomever in CNN Management who makes these decisions should be removed and replaced with a common everyday guy who has some sense. The selections being made more recently are way off target and your ratings prove the case. I used to watch CNN faithfully every night from Anderson Cooper (who I think is great), Larry King, etc. But now, I rarely turn it on because of the new talent (or lack thereof). Not only are you making bad decisions, but you also don't make it very easy for viewers to send that feedback. For instance, if I want to give you feedback about Piers Morgan...I have to send it to his show. A lot of good that does, eh? As a long time viewer, I think this just continues down a path of bad decisions.
Objectionable though he may be, I don't think Bourdain fits in your argument against CNN. He has proven over the last 10 years that he is one of the most knowledgeable people in regards to food culture. He, more than anyone else, shows the connection of food to the people and societies that make it. Who cares if he's a little rough-around-the-edges or drinks a little too much, he still knows what he's talking about and is a great choice for CNN.
I can't argue your frustrations against CNN, but I don't think this was a very appropriate connection to your argument.
I must agree.,.. coincidentally, I was looking at changing the homepage on my pc and pda to the pages.... talend decisions getting worse. Have tried the feedback thing as well – same results... even called CNN Center once. Everyone I'm sure understands the money issue(s); but the only recent addition that I think is good is Gupta – who, already a practicing physician, exhibits the intelligence expected of the world-wide leader in news. Bring Sanchez back – even if you disagree with him, and can get past his on-air ego, he is a balanced and fair host. While you're at it, how 'bout Miles O'Brien?
Gupta?? All he does is show you 3 new ways you're gonna die and how doing whatever you enjoy is killing you. No thanks.
Have been enjoying "No Reservations" and "The Layover". Tony, you have the best job in the world! Thanks for revealing places most of us will never get to see. You bring out and appreciate the local perspective (which is what one enjoys when traveling outside of one's cultural "bubble"). Looking forward to watching the new show. Best of luck!
tony... why you wanna sell out to "da man"...?
What? Anyone who is employed by someone else has sold out to the man. Consider that perspective. So basically, you're assuming that you know all of Bourdain's ideals, and further assume he would not subordinate them so an employer? The guy is a television personality – the employment model is the same, regardless of the network. He gets paid to host a show and to provide food-oriented commentary and banter. So your gripe is really with CNN, isn't it?
gotcha scott.. now what was it i did...? trolling...? it was my first try at it and by golly it works... i actually like anthony... i watch him all the time that i can catch him.. but i must have missed an episode... ted nugent...? what's that all about..?
I like CNN but I DEFINITELY will be hitting the channel button when this egotistical no- talent comes on.
What a sell out!!!! Mr. I'm the Coolest Hipest NY anti society punk rock chief is joining a corporate network to host a cooking show on the weekends!!!! PATHETIC
You dont think the Travel Channel is a Corporate entity? Whats the difference between Time Warner and Scripps Howard?
"oh, no, another liberal! waaahhhh!!!"
Anthony Bourdain is the man
I want to be Anthony Bourdain when I grow up...
I think Anthony Bourdain wants to be Anthony Bourdain when he grows up!
another liberal assssss-holllllllllllle to join sharpton and the other usa socialists goons!!!!!!!!!
When we run out of beef I will then eat vegetarians. (taste lilke chicken?) And who cares about Bourdain. CNN is just going down hill more.
Perfect fit for CNN, another self riteous liberal
It's righteous.
Sincerely,
A liberal
Well done.
Actually, self-righteous should be hyphenated, so you're both wrong, as well. But let's not split 'hares'. lol.
@LeighVA, Actually Mac3333 was correct and only corrected the one word, so no hyphenation was necessary. Simply put, you're totally wrong.
Welcome, Tony! Here's hoping you last longer than DL.
Just dont stifle him with your corporate muzzle!!!!
Oh, for heaven's sake, people! Calm down. He's very intelligent and, yes, some of his comments are biting, but they are usually well-deserved. He is open to new experiences and is entertaining in books and on TV. I hope he continues with his excellent travel show, but if he does not, I'll make a point of watching him on CNN. Welcome aboard, Tony.
Why do I get the feeling all these complainers are either old and don't get Bourdain's schtick, which has a younger person's appeal–I say that even though I'm 67 and love him–or else they have a Doris Day mentality that can appreciate only a low brow food show like Paula Deen's? And if all you people hate CNN so much, which I love, what for God's sake are you doing here offering comments. You practically live on CNN.
Well, There goes the neighborhood.
Really? You're one to talk. Surprised you haven't done a show on how to make Wonder Bread.
Shark, meet Jump.
Look, I'm a liberal and I seriously dislike Bill O'Reilly. He's arrogant, egotistical, hypocritical and I agree with very little that comes out of his mouth, even when he's actually reporting the facts and not opinions dressed as facts. However, I readily admit that I enjoy watching his show. He produces a very entertaining show and part of what makes it entertaining are the unlikable qualities that I listed. Plus, I think it's silly and useless to watch a program (unless it's Bill Maher) where I agree with everything said. What would be the point? What would I learn?
That said, why don't these people who seem to know and hate so much of Bourdain's personality just admit that they do indeed watch his Travel Channel show, partly because of his personality. Why is it so hard for Republicans to just man up? And congratulations GOP members, for turning a food show into a partisan issue. Unbelievable.
And another product of Bourdain's that I'll be addicted to.
Congratulations buddy! ... You're the best of the best of the best... Good luck on your new program.
This should be fun. CNN will have a new record bleeping all the words that come out of Bourdains' mouth. Tony is a loose cannon; letting him host a CNN "G" rated show is like asking Kim Kardachian to move to Minnesota!!
Love, love, love this guy – he is incredibly knowledgeable about food, irreverent, culturally curious, and open-minded to all types of cuisine as he has traveled the world experiencing its bounty.
Noooooooooo!!!! Oh, the humanity....
This is the ultimate proof that CNN has no standards and no scruples in hiring (barely) warm bodies for what was once a fine news organization and is now Entertainment Tonight with a less adept hair and makeup crew.
Are you going to bleep this foul-mouthed freak when he lets loose?
Wow. Lighten up, people. Bourdain never claimed to be a "renowned chef"– those are CNN's words. He is famous as a writer FIRST- and deservedly so. A snob? He eats hotdogs no matter where he goes. He could wax poetic over some pretentious crap, but he doesn't. Does he appreciate the good, fancier stuff? Sure. But, again, this isn't a guy who'd turn his nose up at a good brat. The undeniable facts are that he knows his stuff, and so what if he's not "presenter perfect". We have enough posers out there with perfect teeth. You go, Tony! Just please don't conform too much!
Will he actually be cooking or just spewing his viewpoints? I have never actually witnessed this guy cook anything besides assisting with a paella on some beach in Spain and his very high opinion of himself kinda makes me want to punch him in his head.
You only think Bourdain comes across as arrogant and superior because after watching his show you can see that he IS SUPERIOR to you in just about every way. He is intelligent, experienced, a celebrated chef, world traveler, and has done more to help promote the causes of those parts of the world that get little exposure that you will ever do. Get over it.
Nathan my small peckered friend, you have to learn to respect others opinions like a mature adult. What is really sad is your obvious idolization of a TV personality who could give two craps about you. Grow up and stay in Brazil.
Since everythint I post on here is moderated and usually never gets posted, I hope this one is. I am going to my remote and program CNN OUT FOR GOOD. I can not stand this snob. He is the worst person CNN could ever have it is a shame that Anderson is on this channel I really like him.
I like him because he eats meat. A great writer. Embraces all cultures and is not afraid to imbibe in order to make a more interesting story. And the guy is truly hilarious. Only a few that I follow on Twitter and he's one of them.
What about Bourdain is a snob? Aside from his active dislike of vegans and Rachael Ray the guy is basically the anti-snob.
Thank you for all the warm welcomed comments.
I am bigger than Jesus!
You only think you are. That's your narcissism talking.
Ever since the Beatles broke up, right? lol
Jesus probably didn't fancy pork much, but he could whip up some great wine at a moment's notice if his mom asked him to!
Tony's career is officially over the second he broadcasts from this '..has-been organization...' that declines in ratings like a rock falling from the sky.
CNN has the ..lowest ratings in 20 years.. of ALL NETWORKS...because CNN IS NOT NEWS or entertaining. The Lame Stream Media caused their own precipitous decline because they ARE BIASED LIARS For Democrats.
Yet you still can visit the site and troll.....stay classy.
If CNN went out of business tomorrow I would not care in the slightest. There is nothing to be gained from this site or television stations. Their ratings prove it. It's only a matter of time before they merge with a sugar daddy, like NY Times, or go belly up.
Don't forget The NY Post–A Leader in the written word.
Shame he's wasting his time and creativity on CNN. Would much prefer he stay away, and certainly won't be watching....
Anthony is the Howard Stern of travel and eating experiences. I love his commentary and insight. Makes me want
to go where he's been and experience it for myself. I think its a bold move for CNN and I like it. I'd love to shoot the sh!t with him, throw down a few and other things : ) Lighten up you haters... he's a good time.
Thank you CNN, I love Anthony and so do many of my friends, if they haven't already heard this wonderful news, I'm calling them. LOVE ANYTHONY AND YOU WILL TOO, he puts on the most wonderful World food experience show you'll never forget.
guy's a jerk.
Considering his background he has mastered the written word, oh sorry, he writes all his commentary which I find incredible.
He's great. How did you get him to join the anti-christian, gay marriage at all costs CNN?
because he's like-minded. read his book
I have watched Anthony for years, he is brilliant! I will be watching!
Does anyone actually watch CNN anymore?
The ratings agencies say no....and good riddance.
Sorry Tony, but my respect and love for you has gone down a notch. Joining CNN has killed a significant chunk of your fans.
Significant number of fans? Not likely. Handful of people that complain all day on CNN? Sure.
I wonder if they will censor him as much as they do me. Some sections of this site are prude and can't take anything.
I love Anthony Bordain. People who get "offended" by him take things too personally. He is very funny, entertaining, and he can appreciate a good meal whether it is 5 stars or made by your grandmother.
He's too funny ..I can totally relate to his thinking and love is commentary. Bold move by CNN and I applaud them. Yea he's controversial... A Howard Stern of travel and eating. People need to get off there pedestals, lighten up and give him a chance. He won a dang Emmy.. not by accident.
I thought I had noticed a decline in CNN; now I know I was right. I can't believe CNN is going with the oversized ego of this malcontent. I don't watch him on tv, why would I ever read this bloviated wanna be? See ya CNN!
LOL @ over-sized ego. What ego? The man is as down to earth as they come. It's sad you rag on others because they actually enjoy being alive. Here is a needle and some bleach. I'll set it down on the floor and if you feel like you need to end it, here is your way out.
What a shocker!!! I'm totally stunned! Not really, he'll fit right in with character attacking like everyone else on the left! I won't be watching cnn because of him, he's lucky I put up with him on his No Reservation show!
Oh, I'm sure he feels SO lucky that you deign to "put up with him," since he really needs you!
Don't like him. He looks like he would smell bad.
Your comment is totaly off the wall and displays how ignorant you are.
I agree with JEM
I also agree with JEM.
Misery *does* love company.
Totally. John, you're a tool.
100% agree with JEM
I'd much rather see a regularly scheduled show dedicated to in-depth investigative reporting of how toxic our environment is. I don't mean a one hour special once a year which barely scratches the surface, but interviewing migrant workers sick from picking strawberries while in pesticide-induced comas, dangers of silver amalgams which are 50 percent mercury and yet dentists still plunk that toxic stuff into our teeth which are just inches from our brains, GMO products defined once and for all and why to stay away from them, why coal is toxic to our health, the millions of people suffering with environmental illnesses that traditional medicine refusts to recognize, etc. CNN needs a really good medical environmental reporter who get get down and dirty regarding these kinds of issues. Tony Bourdain is ok but I expect more from CNN. Maybe I shouldn't.
good point tuna– but is all about sensationalism and ratings, and news is no longer news but Nat'l Enquirer crap and
simple-minded loser-chefs
I used to enjoy his show until I saw the episode of 'No Reservations' where he sat down with people addicted to food. All he did was make fun of them and talk about how big of losers they were for practically having orgasms over eating food, meanwhile on every other episode whenever he eats anything he acts as if he's going to climax. The guy is a hypocritical Dyouche who should go back to shooting Heroin
CNN is a perfect place for this self-absorbed jerk. If he was everything he thought he was he's own CNN.
Oh goodie. A show dedicated to a man who trashes Paul Dean for promoting an unhealthy cuisine while snorting coke and getting drunk on martinis.
The food she cooks will kill you faster then those two plus opiates.
Perhaps she needs a birch slap?
No, it won't.
Sorry, you are wrong.
Sounds like better programming to me already. I fail to see the problem.
He's not on coke anymore. But Paula's still scarfin down the buttah and corn pone, ain't she?
Does this mean there is an opening at The Travel Channel? I can cook Mexican Food. :))
Ni se te ocurra. Congri con lechon azado, yuca con mojo, una buena ensalada, y un fllancito. lol
I love his show and I loved his book Kitchen Confidential . Here's a wonderful thing about TV.. it has an off button.. if you don't like him, don't watch him.. or Nancy or Paula or Rachel or any of the other talking heads on the tube.
So really, if you don't care to watch him... don't watch him.. here's a thought.. go into the kitchen and actually fix a meal.
Good to know. I'll be using it when he comes on....cannot stand this man.
love the commentary on t.v.itis – my sentiments totally.....
Here's a thought, stop be so condescending and sarcastic ("Here's thought...") to people on here who may disagree with you. Let 'em have their say.
"...stop being...."
Too bad George Will already pegged the Trump with "Bloviating Ignoramus". Fits Bourdain like an overweight luggage charge.
awesome, anthony is the man
What an idiot. Nobody would watchhis segment
Yes, please, do continue speaking for the rest of us.
There is a vast world outside the bible belt.
What does that statement have to do with not liking the man?? Why bring religion into this...
I guess you missed the comment that said his presence was right in line with "anti-Christian, gay marriage at any cost CNN?"
And this is why I don't watch this guy anymore. The nihilism is old, and he's nothing more than a sellout – just like all the guys he used to bash. When he does a 'layover' or goes with 'no reservations', he imposes his own neanderthal biases on the entire episode. We understand that street food tells a lot about a culture, but dude – you're eating a hot dog in an airport. It's not interesting.
Anthony Bourdain is a great chef, and in his early days, an interesting traveller, but now he's a trite talking head, well outside his element and a long walk from what made him great.
I wish I could have said it better, but you nailed it. What was once a pretty good show degenerated into Layover, and now will die on CNN.
nicely done.... old and tired....yada, yada, yada
Not good news...Bourdain is a polarizing figure and I happen to like him (after not at first)...If he's on CNN the network's stink might rub off on him.
More political crap served up with an extra helping of liberalism and intensly profane words! That's an example of why I never watch CNN.
Yeah, you never watch it, Just like you never read anything on CNN.com MORON.
Commercials! Gotta watch all the commercials!
Then stop posting stupid comments and go back to FOX.
Another self-important blowhard in the Nancy Grace CNN tradition . This guy, with his pathetic command of the English langauge, has to resort to nonstop profanity for attention and a lack of intelligence. Give me the remote.
Love those foul-mouthed bad boys. I watch every show Ramsay does and love to hear him just be himself while he cooks or kicks ass in the kitchen. Bourdain's fun too (hate he's a smoker but who cares?). I love their political incorrectness.
Good news, Anthony quit smoking about 2 yrs. ago (at least). You'll notice it on his more recent shows.
He was GREAT as the judge in the movie "My Cousin Vinny'
It was not him but a guy that looks like him, the actual actor that plays the judge is the one that used to play Herman Monster, look it up.
Yeah, that's the joke, Tool.
Yes! I really liked him and Tattoo in that James Bond movie, too. And wasn't he the bad wizard in the Frodo Trilogy?
Knowing Mr. Bourdain's proclivities and tastes, this will defintely be a pork project.
I hate this guy more than anything.... A complete and utter A$$. Gives me yet another reason to not watch CNN.
Enjoy your dancing with the stars.
Doncha love the people who hate CNN (or so they say) but just can't resist hangin' out in its comments sections?
maybe he'll boost CNNs viewership from it's current top of about 90,000. Piers Morgan got 34,000 viewers during sweeps week according to Neilsons. The only reason CNN stays in business is their sweet deal with the cable companies. CNN gets 48¢ per cable subscriber per month.
This guy is the most pretentious a**hole on television. i hope this show absolutely tanks.
No doubt.... Probably the same idiots that hired Nancy Grace.
I agree about the Nancy Grace answer.
Good choice. Not sure he's going to lift the entire network out of it's snoozapalooza! CNN is boring and tries to be too in the middle and does so at the expense of being interesting. And i'm a lefty.
One of the few people I wish I could hang out with (or trade places with). I wonder if he'll bring in Zamir as a special correspondent?
I hope so; love Zamir!
Anthony can eat crackers in my bed anytime.
Pig
I have to agree with you – I wouldn't kick him out of bed for a few cracker crumbs!!
Hope his choice of words cleans up some. That's why I quit watching his drawl show where he filled in lots of unnecessary adjectives.
Love those foul-mouthed bad boys. Ramsay while he cooks or kicks ass in the kitchen. Bourdain as he eats his way around the world. I love their political incorrectness.
What on earth is a "drawl show"?
This guy is smart and funny. Good move CNN!
Tony's got edge, hopefully he doesn't cave in and loose his "edginess" like the "sellout" Howard Stern on his latest flop "America Has No Talent!", who'd thought Stern would go politically correct. Lame
They better put Bourdain on a 10 second delay. He has a potty mouth
CNN's newest strategy is to impress the grumpy and selfish baby boomers it seems like. This will not end well.
You can't make it through a celebrity soccer game, You PUSS. Bangers and Mash in 'Yo face.
You try playing against professional football stars you silly donkey.
LOL you called him a silly donkey. HAHAHA
lol
I love this guy...welcome to CNN
Awesome Tony!!!!
LOVE Anthony Bourdain! Witty, acerbic, crude, astute, and above all a pallet to be reckoned with! Should be entertaining.
He sure puts the Ass in acerbic...
Surprising, but great addition. His world view is something we all should be more open too, as well as some of his writings and show closes are as poignant as any of the great American authors including one of his idols, Hunter S. Thompson.
I very much enjoy his way of speaking, his choice of words. I almost never watch CNN, but this might make me tune in.
He is to cooking what Kim Khardasian is to acting.
u are so dumb..... fo real
Several of his close friends are top chefs from around the world and well respected at all levels of the industry. How can you make such an uninformed comment? Why don't you spend a couple of bucks and read his book "Kitchen Confidential" and get back to us.
Your are right on! "World renowned chef"? What world is that? Can anyone even name one restaurant of his?
What- all those years at a packed Les Halles were the equivalent of just showing your mug to the cameras?
Fo shizzle!
This is great addition to the cnn team. Calm down guys
It's okay. . .they just jelli. :)
...I will definitely be following his articles.
how do you come up with him being a left-winger? I guess if he isn't on fox news parroting out der party line, he must be a "left-winger". Geez, what a bunch of dooooshbags
Hey russ – If you watch any if his shows, and I watch them all, it is pretty apparent that Tony is fairly liberal – although he is not "in your face" about it. I am not liberal, but I don't watch his shows for the politics. I watch because he is witty, edgy, and calls it like he sees it. I like the guy's work....politics aside.
I watch his show and I enjoy too, but I've never caught a political leaning one way or the other. But then again, I don't go looking for it either.
As long as he keeps his sometimes ascerbic views intact, I support this.
But that's why I like him so much, acerbic wit and self-deprecation. We have enough Sandra Lee and Rachel Rays already.
Has Fox News sent a bunch or trolls here to bad mouth Anthony Bordain??? Grow up Rupert.
Just back from trolling Fox News. What's up?
Anthony Bourdain ROCKS!!! I love his attitude and spirit and he makes me laugh throughout his No Reservations and Layover shows! I just hope CNN doesn't try to censor his commentary style!
Just what we need- – another foul mouthed, ill-educated, legend-in-his-own-mind – -failing celeb, who still enjoys talking about his over drinking over "coking" and over-everything life style. Perfect addition to all the other has-beens failures on CNN.
So...you've seen his show a few times then. Sounds like you know it pretty well to be so negative
What a pretentious, boring, self-absorbed loser. He should be teaching junior high school social studies in New Jersey and making his snyde comments to pubescent nimrods. What a crock.
Best news on CNN in a while. No Reservations is the only show I actually DVR (the rest I download at some point after the season finishes).
If you haven't seen Hakaido and Liberia then you're just missing out on good television.
Initially, several years ago, he sort of irritated me. But now, I understand him better and look forward to his shows. Many thanks for educating me Tony and best of luck with your new show.
More stupidity and less news. No wonder CNN is losing viewers, they can’t report what’s really happening in the world.
Oh, and there's another news network that does? Please, enlighten us.
Well said!
Tony and Piers Morgan are the best addition to CNN. Everybody forgot about the man – named Larry King. People in this blog hates Tony because he is successful. Basically the negetavie postings here by bunch of radical right wingers.
Shut up.
Tony and Piers Morgan are the best addition to CNN. Everybody forgot about the man – named Larry King. People in this blog hates Tony because he is successful. Basically the negetavie postings here by bunch of radical right wingers.
Piers Morgan's ratings are dreadful and he will be gone soon. No one wants to see a angry far left winger spit out his bias on TV anymore.
you are wrong....wake up and drink some water dude.
"CNN's ratings woes continue to get worse. Following last week's news of a 15-year primetime low during Piers Morgan, final Nielsen ratings give the network its lowest-rated weekday primetime showing among total viewers in more than 20 years."
I can't directly link to any article because CNN won't allow it but do a google news search with "piers morgan ratings" and you will find articles that state this. Why are you trying to make points about things you don't know anything about?
Yeah. I think he has mellowed quite a bit with age and will do just fine on CNN, plus I still find his perspective on food culture entertaining and his unique way with words is always hilarious.
Can't wait to tune in! Good luck on the new gig.
love of my life?
Hell Yes, Let's Blow up some Abba records. Where's my 50 caliber?
If you've never seen the No Reservations episode when he went to Beirut, it is a must see!
I honestly cannot stand Anthony Bourdain. His show(s) on Travel channel make him out to be a lazy, narcissistic, jerk.
You know, I used to watch his show, but of late I have lost all respect form him. Narcissist is the perfect word to describe him.
Yay another far left winger getting his own opinion show! You guys learned nothing with Piers Morgan!
You have open my eyes sir. I never realized how a show about eating global cuisine could be us as a vehicle for Anthony Bordain in imbue his Marxist agenda on the American public. I have been so blind. Thank you sir.
You can tell by his comments on the show where his politics lie. I'm sure with this new show they will come out even clearer.
Can NO ONE lean to the left and be allowed on TV? Dude is hosting a food and travel show. If you take all the liberals off TV you will be bored with nothing but Fox News, NCIS, CSI & Hawaii 5-0. How about we let entertainers of all political persuasions on TV? Or do you want to go ahead and start burning those books too? (I invoke Godwins law!)
Hey Gordo (much more funny if you use the Spanish meaning of the word.) Something tells me you are Southern evangelical. Hints,
1. You can't read through or understand an article... they never said Bourdain was going to do a talk show or anything political for that matter.
2. You think Piers Morgan is a liberal. He makes your God, Ronald Reagan look like Stalin. Morgan regularly has 'The Donald" a.k. the drunk, dumb, chump who inherited all his Dad's money but no common sense or other right wing wack-a-doodle's like Ted Nugent (guns, guns and more guns, cuz, I was born without one of my own) or the now dead former felon who is now breathing in smoke and burning sulfur, Andrew (not so) Breitbart.
3. Tell me when has Morgan, Uncle Rupert's former right-hand man in Great Britain (who, it looks like is about to also become a felon which means good riddance Fox Noise, that is unless it the number two shareholder, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal al-Saud decides not to turn the channel into the American version of Al Jazeera. Of course, now that I think about it theeir isn't nuch differnce between AL Jazeer and Fox. Both are extreme right wing networks that: preach hate over civilty, violence over tolerance. and despise any who don't look and act like them. Right wing evangelical bigots like Gordon are pretty much an American version of the Taliban aside from the Islamic extremist "got themselves some braynz but the call Gawd, Ah-La. Maybe they mean to say Ah-Lawdy (o' Lord to tranlate for those of you who don't speak Southern code.)
Bon Appetit
Tony has a way of connecting with people in often hard situations which makes for amazingly genuine tv.
I totally agree.
I hope he isn't giving up the Travel Channel show! ony is good at what he does – he eats and drinks and tells a story better than anyone. I don't care for his politics and he seldom interjects that into his Travel Channel show (loved the Ted Nugent episode). But with this move he has sold out like the countless others that he sometimes criticizes (anyone connected with the FoodNetwork). I predict he won't be at CNN for long.
Great...another show about hipsters and food to expensive for the average American to afford.
Haven't watched any of his shows, huh? pork and street food – yum!
out of the way family eats and more street food.....can't call that exactly expensive hipster fare....
...as a chef I have just one thing to say.... Most of you people are morons!! What does a cooking show have to do with politics?? Dan G- if they had a story about the strawberry season in Florida you would make a comment in regards to the strawberries representing the liberal clinging to a vine or some crap like that. Then again, maybe not because it is in Florida and no Rep would ever question anything wrong in Florida. ..Go read Fox News.. Just like CNN its only 3 letters so I'm sure you can figure it out...
Well said Chef, these are the people that if they put a dent in thier car, they will blame it on the libbs.
Don't you worry your pretty little heads, Anthony B is too smart, too wise and too talented to let the suits at CNN take away what is intrinsically Anthony Bourdain – he is an cultural anthropologist who specializes in no BS observations about how food defines and illuminates our world's many culture. Can't wait to see his take on all things food on CNN.
Edna, you said it beautifully!
Anthony Bourdain has been one of my biggest idols over the past 3 years! Congrats on the exciting news!!!
Good lord this is a food show not a political show. He is a little brash and arrogant like most New Yorker's but if you don't like him then don't watch.
I enjoy his travel show but he has a terrible record on vegans and vegetarians. Regarding vegans, he says: "I don't have any understanding of it. Being a vegan is a first-world phenomenon, completely self-indulgent."
Not sure CNN should be promoting his "commitment to international reporting and to promoting global understanding.” when he can't even understand people in his own country.
Yes Ryan, because Veganism has such a cultural importance in the world, why certainily would he not understand it?
Ryan,
He has an opinion about vegans. It does not seem to agree with your. This difference of opinions in no way indicates that he doesn't undertand his own society. Also, if you look at things objectively you'd see that he is right – veganism, with the exception of some religious orders, is a first world phenomenon. Other societies may be largely vegetarian but often that is a result of poverty more than desire. As poorer nations increase their standard of living one of the first things they do is start eating more meat and animal protein.
I'm not sure why this observation would offend you though.
By "terrible record" you must be meaning "completely accurate", which his statement is.
Vegans don't matter. Sorry, they just don't and AB will never give you any love.
For someone who has devoted their life to food like he has, vegan just makes no sense. Expecting him to get vegans is like expecting a vegan to understand bow hunting.
Of all the ways to limit your eating options, vegan has got to be the least appealing, and I am saying that from the perspective of someone married to a person with celiac. I can come up with many functional and appealing ways to substitute for wheat flour, fake cheese is just plastic, tofu is a sad dissapointment, and nothing is butter but butter.
What a great addition to CNN! Can't wait to see Bourdain's show. I thoroughly enjoy his "No Reservations" show on Travel Channel. In fact, last night's show on the Baja Peninsula was great! Good luck with your new venture, Mr. Bourdain!
Bourdaine appeals to a wide swath of the population who have actually read his books and who have also spent years working in the Restaurant/Food Industry. Those without this kind of background don't understand his personality type, nor do they want to. It's far easier to label him as some arrogant, polarizing figure without taking to the time to understand what he's all about. If you're not passionate about travel, food, or food culture, then you're not ready to eat at the grown-up's table and his form of info-tainment will be lost on you.
Really??? You have to work in the food industry or read his books to understand him? Bull$hit... I watch the show and enjoy it very much for his views on culture, food and travel. You seem a bit snobby...
What you are saying is that people who are void of culture wouldn't understand what it means to eat a meal that you will remember for the rest of your life. I would say this applies to the vast majority of middle american where people drive up to a restaurant, order by a number then ask for it to be "super sized". While these folks save $$ for their family, you and I are picking up the tab for their heart, cholesterol and anti depressant medication later in life. Go America!
You don't have to share his background to have a passion for food. You just have to share the passion for food. Some of the things he eats, and loves, I don't appreciate, but, his passion shows, and I would love to follow him on one of his trips. I might not like everything he eats, but I would love some of it. And I've had too many supersized meals in my life.
I love Anthony Bourdain; however, he's as opinionated and left-oriented as the rest of CNN. He should fit in just fine.
I'm noticing a trend... people that actually bother to leave the country to travel around the world actually become more liberal. Sure, it's easy to call them a 'left-winger' or whatever, but the fact of the matter is that perhaps they have more of a world-view than you do. It's easy to think you're right when you're sitting on the couch not experiencing issues such as poverty, war, and corruption. In fact, it's been shown time and time again that self-labeled 'conservatives' are less-educated and not at all prone to venture more than 100 miles from what they consider their home.
The rest of us, however, understand the bigger picture. So you just be content to sit on your couch eating cheetos being an armchair global referee, I'm sure it fits you well.
Noodle lover,
It is amazing that in your attempt to disparage conservatives as xenophobic homebodies with a lower education you have actually highlighted out how stupid and mislead that you, and possibly all liberals, really are. Where has it been shown “time and time again” that conservatives are less educated and not prone to travel outside their home boundaries? The New York Times? Hmmmm. Show me the data or quit pontificating to extend your ignorant, elitist agenda. I absolutely guarantee that I travel more than you do outside this country and I have held strong to my conservative values. Oh and guess what…I am relatively certain that I am more educated than your average arrogant, self absorbed, liberal whiner. So try again. You libs just need to wake up and smell the plain truth: the bigger picture isn’t only revealed to those that proclaim their progressivity by waving the liberal banner. It is absolutely possible to have a sound world view with a conservative core. Surprised? I guess you had better go get some more of that education that you claim to already have since you salute the all-saving liberal flag.
BTW..Bourdain is awesome and one of the brightest spots on TV today, which is otherwise filled with soul less, vapid prattle surrounded by a thin film of prepackaged skat.
Hmm, and the right is not opinionated? Other than the two wars, I am pretty sure AB was a Bush supporter.
Yeah! Unlike FOX which is the only unbiased real news channel in the whole wide world!
Well, he predicted it and now it's reality.....the ‘sell out’ is complete. Undoubtedly he'll do things the corporate way and thus effectively end the character that made him famous. Too bad.
Tony rules!
He has a large head.
you have a small brain, I'm just sayin....... I understand there is a reason you don't get it. Welcome aboard Anthony. Followed you for years and I have learned not to be a food bigot... It's all good.
Truth hurts? Look at the guy's noggin – it's huge. HUGE I tell you. I thought he was one of those bobble heads you see in parades.
Both literally AND figuratively!
He is the best in the industry. Good for him and good for CNN. Just hire Keith Olbermann.
He is the reason everyone hates Americans. Arrogant, drunk a$$.
Yet, he was more popular in the rest of the world long before he was in the US. Odd.
Anon, so not true. I have a feeling you're more the arrogant American type.
If you don't like, don't watch. BTW, I could go to any country and find a celebrity to fit your description. Good try though.
Not an American but i like him...
he doesnt erase his pass (drugs, working in kitchens for years,...) but still
BTW most cooks look down upon vegans/vegetarians because they feel their losing an oportunity and honestly whats demands harder to do cook meat or do a salade (no cooking needed).
Ramsey even had a special on "the f word" about vegans/vegetarians where he tried to "turn" them to meat.
Bourdain is just
I guess CNN doesn't care about the Southern viewers anymore.
I can just see the Paula Deen fans rolling over in their tub of lard after hearing this news.
lol
Personally I wish they'd bring back "Style with Elsa Klensch."
And D.L. Hughely! lol...
If you don't want to watch him you can always turn on the Food network and watch one of Rachael Rays 5 stupid shows. Maybe she'll be making mac & cheese with ritz crackers and cheese wiz and some evoo!
I agree. One year we got both RR cookbooks for Xmas (my wife doesn't cook and I had never uttered her name before)...after literally trying 9 meals that all tasted mediocre we gave up. I mean I can cook, got good ingredients...but they just were bland and so-so at best. I sold them back and we never stop on her show (plus that voice). In RR defense, I have seen her in person and she is way hotter then she looks on TV. Hot, yes. Good cook, no.
Love Bourdain. Just hope CNN doesn't censor him to death...
Then, we'll have to come up with a special spork for him to fight off the moderators.
This is awesome. Can't wait to see what Tony brings to CNN.
Terrible news for a news network. I've been watching CNN for almost 30 years and there were highs and lows, but this is a clear sign that this network doesn't care about its core audience. Either bring us news or shut the network down. What's next? Ice Road Truckers? Cartoons? Jersey Shore? How low can you go, guys?
Why? I think it's great. He's much better than most CNN reporters.
hey as long as it's not a soledad o'brien minority in america special i'm game
My thoughts exactly. Shamelessly self-promotional CNN non-news.
Its funny because you think CNN is a news network. What part of Piers Morgan or Fareed Zacaria or any of the Saturday Sunday shows do you consider news? Even AC360 is mostly commentator telling you what you should feel about the news... Frankly I think anything that the news reader shows any emotional biased toward (a sigh or a smile) is subliminally no longer news but changing how you should feel about the story. So PLEASE don't call any of the so called news networks news... they are all entertainment at best.
man he'll work anywhere for money won't he?
That's generally how jobs work, isn't it?
this is a teachable moment... when you work, you make money. when you make money, you pay taxes. when you pay taxes, democrats villianize you and make you feel bad for having nice things, which you got because you worked.
Wait, what? The haters here seem to be conservatives accusing tony of being a liberal. You have it backward. He worked hard, he made money, he travels the world, making more money, and now that he's going to be on CNN, the conservatives are hating on him.
Do you people read the weather articles and complain about liberals? The sports stories?
"This is Anthony Bourdain, reporting to you live from Hama, Syria. The shelling continues, but the kebabs are delicious."
Lighten up people; it's television. It's entertainment and he's entertaining. He seems to do and say things common to all of us. Maybe some of you are seeing yourself's and not liking it. I'll watch!!
He's about as entertaining as watching paint dry. And no, I will NOT be watching him.
Well said Chuck.
Another pig hired by cnn
Nobody likes you.
I Wanna be Sedated....Good Luck Tony, don't get goosed by Pierce Morgan.
@$&^%& *#$!*@&? *%#%@!!
Arrogant, yes. He fits the Liberal Progressive "i'm better than you" profile so I guess he was a obvious pick for CNN.
Its a food show you dikheds! Relax. The guy is entertaining as hell. Go see him on tour, its food and music references. Ya'll need to relax
You mean the wealthy Republican model.... Juvenile reverse psychology can only be effective when you own the media.
America! Yeah, all those stupid liberal hippies and their "I'm better than you" attitude. They can take their equal rights, their overall sense of community, and their "overall betterment of mankind" and shove it straight up their socialist keesters.
Capitalism is where its at, where the rich get richer and the poor get tricked into thinking they are voting for "morals".
So why are you on this site?
Bourdain belongs on Fox News, not CNN. Yes, he's talented and smart, but he's also toxic, antagonistic and disrespectful. "Honesty" does not have to be delivered rudely. People may lament the rise of celeb tv cooks/chefs, but he's the old school rude elitist snob chef who also needs to go the way of the dinosaur. Thumbs down, CNN. I'm a hardcore food fan, but will not watch this show – ever. Sad that your network more and more is caving in to sensationalism to boost ratings.
Well said, Sir! Thank-you!
Not enough news to report, I suppose, so they bring on this latest version of the Galloping Gourmet. Ted Turner must be rolling over in his grave.... oh, wait....
It's a shame that CNN has to hired one of the most Liberal Chefs they could find. Too bad CNN is going to end up like MSNBC before long.
The world, in general, is a progressive place that embraces diversity and change. Fewer and fewer people are holding onto old prejudices and are opening up their minds. Of course, some are knee deep in Paleozoic tar pits, stuck for life and screaming their pointed heads off as they sink in further. The largest block of Republican voters is in the +65 crowd. Pretty soon, they will become part of the political fossil record, just like the Whigs and Tories.
Yes, but who'll support the progressives social programs when the +65 crowd is gone? You can only tax the hell out of the those who work for a living!
There are plenty of tax free utopias out there, that would welcome the far right wing of american politics. Interestingly, those places have huge economic openings for business. You could head over there, start up a business, work hard and be rich and free. Why aren't the "I don't want to pay taxes" complainers going where there are no taxes?
Five years ago, conservative didn't mean "no taxes". This "new conservative" mindset is just wierd. If this one isn't popular enough, what new innnovative positions will the right come up with to try to attact more of the lowest common denominator?
This is a food blog. Please do not drag politics into it...
never thought of cooking as liberal or conservative before.
BAD move CNN! Why have this chain-smoking, arrogant prick on your network is beyond my understanding. Adios CNN and hello FOX!
If you watched his show, you'd know he stopped smoking in 2007.
It sounds like you should have been watching FOX all along...
COOL!!!!!!....LETS MAKE SOME BREAD!!!!!
This is good news. Bourdain is entertaining and tells it like it is. Others think he's arrogant, so what? Go hug a tree or something whiners.
Arrogance and name-calling are social disabilities. Looks like you have quite a lot in common with Bourdain. That's unfortunate, for you.
So are you the new resident psychiatrist?
You sound like one of the guys who didn't get picked for the 5th grade softball team. You had to stand and watch. Hey Dave. Tell me a joke. Psycologist. Naw a bigger one. Psychiatrist. Aaaaahahahahahahahahaha!
This is DEFINITELY one more show we WILL NOT be watching on CNN. His arrogance is so beyond abhorrent I can't even think of a word describe it... CNN continues to die a slow death before our eyes.
Fortunately, you and your opinion will not be missed.
Arrogance? He has a dry sense of humor. He's actually not arrogant...
Maybe Tony's tired of having to deal with tight A$$es like you all his life.
You know, I've come to notice that a hallmark of the truly unhinged and uneducated seems to be the random capitalization of entire words when typing. Do you really speak like that? Do you actually scream out every fifth or sixth word like a crazy person? If no, maybe don't type like that either. Makes you look like a nut.
That's SO not true. ;)
Well, this is DEFINITELY one of the many shows on CNN that I WILL NOT be watching. His arrogance is so beyond abhorrent, I can't even think of a word to describe it. CNN continues to die a slow death before our eyes.
I couldn't agree more ,,, he's a waste of a 60 minute time slot
Well, this is DEFINITELY one of the many shows on CNN that I WILL be watching. It's a breath of fresh air, and I can't wait for it to begin. As for those of you that aren't looking forward to this...go watch Rachael Ray.
I have been watching him for years . I don't think he's arrogant as much as he's very irriatable. You can tell when starting to get irritated by the hot weather or tourist spots.
His arrogance is only directed at self entitled Americans. He is always a very gracious guest and humble visitor to the other countries he frequents. If America as a whole had shown the respect he does to places like the Middle East and Southeast Asia, perhaps we would have a few hundred thousand more adult men walking around and a load of less debt.
Stop reading the news clippings of what he says about Queen Deen (all of which is correct btw, she is gross) and listen to what he is actually saying, his message is very clear and noble.
Stopped watching Deen a long time ago. The night she cooked two hot dogs in a pound of butter. And laughing after everything she says. Insecure to say the least. And please don't come back with "Jealous" I certainly am not. Every cook on those channels has a following. And not every follower likes every chef.
I hope Tony doesn't have to cut back on his unique sarcasm and frequent libations once he's broadcast CNN......
It's never stopped us!
I agree – a toned downed Bourdain would be just another Mario Batali!!! Please CNN – just say no to Rachel Ray. Promise?
Rachel....another one who giggles after everything she say's. Don't watch her either.
Wow! I love CNN and Tony Bourdain! I wonder if Tony will be given the kind of free rein he relishes as much as a good boudain blanc with a glass of chardonnay?
Just don't get rid of Don Lemon. Bourdain? Meh.
he needs to visit some fast food places so most Americans can relate to him.
Ladies and gentlemen, this pretty much sums up everything that is wrong with the eating habits of most Americans (Myself included).
HIs favorite late night spot is Greys Papya up town Manhattan.
Or, maybe most americans need to try eating some real food. If your total food experience all comes with fries, I pity you.
Tony went to cincinatti and had the skyline chilli. He's eaten at some fairly normal places, and plenty of affordable places. I used to eat lunch twice a week at a place that had been featured on his show. Yes he does eat expensive and wierd stuff, but he also eats out of food trucks and other cheap, common, normal places. There's good food at every price point, if you look in the right places.
This isn't good. He'll misuse his power to take down all our Olive Gardens.
How is that not a good thing? While he's at it, he can take down Macaroni Grill, too.
I will not be watching. Shame on you CNN.
GOOD!....GO GIVE PAULA HER INSULIN!!!
Everytime I read a comment like this, I wish I had the ability to point and have this type of creature (non human mentality) just disappear in a puff of smoke. Imagine how wonderful this country would be without those who love to kick people when they're down.
"shame on you cnn"? are you serious?
Terrific. Now we can have more opportunities to see Bourdain in all of his idiocy. His "I'm simultaneously drunk and the coolest guy on earth" shtick is old.
Thank you! I never understood his appeal. CNN could've gone out and found a thousand arrogant jackholes just like him without paying the $$$.
He appeals to all of the other socially maladjusted, angry, sense of entitlement people out there – which unfortunately in this day and age is a lot. The only reason he rails so hard against mainstream cooking/food television is because some of his original shows were dumped by the network. His jealousy, substance abuse issues, and ego put him over the edge. He's pretty much a trainwreck, which screwed up people love to watch.
damn it, i use to like him
One of the best on TV...CNN youre lucky.
I just LOVE him! He's so fun to watch.
Hello,
Great news!
i am a fan of Tony and am excited seeing him in CNN....will definitely watch every weekend!
Thanks for giving your viewers something enjoyable and educationa to watch!
Tony's style is unique and very informative and never boring!
All the best to Tony and more Power!
leonor
Good to see. I've always loved his travel program. Will definitely watch.
I wonder if Paula Deen will be his first guest? I guess they don't like me on the CNN Press page.
