Want some crushed bugs with your Starbucks frappuccino?
Well, you'd better get on it, because soon it will be too late. The coffee franchise announced that it's phasing out the use of insects as food coloring in its drinks and food products.
Starbucks President Cliff Burrows wrote, in a Thursday blog, that Starbucks is "transitioning" away from the use of an insect called the cochineal.
Burrows blogged that Starbucks "fell short of your expectations by using natural cochineal extract as a colorant in four food and two beverage offerings in the United States."

People are without a clue about how various foods are grown or prepared. The media delights in destroying companies though who use a product that they can make fun of on the 5 o'clock news. Earlier this year it was pink slime, now pink bugs, neither of which is a health problem. How about surimi, you could probably make a disgusting show on how that is made from fish. How about focusing on real news, instead of these cute stories to destroy other companies?
Hopefully, their Starbuck's share price plummets now.
-ignore "their"
Terrible that Starbucks would do this in the first place and yet charge $5.37 for a grande drink. Disgusting. I'll go back to drinking Tim Horton's coffee and MacDonald's. At least they do not put insect products in their drinks.
Starbugs?
Cripes. I'd rather have cochineal – a coloring traditional to New World cultures for thousands of years. May as well give up on indigo, too.
What an ignorant crowd.
Search on the back of most processed yogurts. If you see carmine then you have yourself some crushed mexican beetles.
Grande Cockroach Cappacchino for me please.
ORDER UP!
That's what she said.
Yet if you are upset about it, do you know that the fda allows for bugs in all processed food. Oh ya and caramel coloring is ammonia based.
I'll take a "... crushed beetle dung flavored triple whip crappafroofroo ..."
Skinny or regular?
Skinny w/extra 'spresso please.
