There are lots of reasons to grow your own food. It’s cheaper, safer, healthier, better for the environment, and even reduces stress. So this year, we challenge you to grow one thing for your dinner table: Herb, vegetable, fruit … just one thing that you cultivate yourself. Whether you're using a rooftop, countertop, or community garden, if you're blessed with full sun or none, we invite you to join the iReport kitchen garden club - and chronicle your successes and foibles through photos and video. We'll all learn together. Let's get started! See the garden assignment on iReport. |

Have been growing a garden 10 years, we have changed non edible bushes out for edible fruit bearing bushes. I also can all my own jams with extremely low sugar, and tomatoes and zucchini are so much better out of the garden. Try also winter gardening, planting lettuces, kale, mustard greens, and cabbage. What a great way to save money as well as eating healthy.
Growing Hopi Sweet Corn, tohono o'odham melons, zuchinni, sweet pumpkins, a variety of small hot peppers, and so much more! Planting season started way way soon here in southern AZ deserts. It should be a nice harvest!
I grow herb in my basement. It is very relaxing, indeed.
I would think it would be too dark to grow in a basement... unless you can't grow the herb in the light of day. XP
I use special lights and hydroponic setups.
