It’s almost time to commemorate one of the most beloved and mysterious numbers in mathematics.

You know - Pi! The ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter is approximately 3.14. So on March 14 - or 3/14 - math fans and dessert lovers unite to celebrate Pi Day.

In honor of the holiday, we invite you to show off your best pie, or tell us about the tastiest one you've ever had. Sweet, savory, crunchy, creamy - we want them all. Include original photos and recipes, and we'll celebrate the beloved dessert March 14 on Eatocracy.

5@5 is a daily, food-related list from chefs, writers, political pundits, musicians, actors, and all manner of opinionated people from around the globe.

Hank Shaw is the blogger behind Hunter Angler Gardener Cook and the author of "Hunt, Gather, Cook: Finding the Forgotten Feast."

"I think daily about new ways to cook and eat anything that walks, flies, swims, crawls, skitters, jumps – or grows," Shaw writes.

"Honest food is what I’m seeking. Nothing packaged, nothing in a box, nothing wrapped in plastic. I eat meat, and I’m not keen on factory farms, so I either hunt it myself or buy it from real people who raise animals humanely."

For Shaw, one food that fits his "honest food" bill is duck.

Five times the quack, five times the yum.

Editor's note: After a long, hungry wait, New York City finally has its own cupcake ATM.

It all started when Candace Nelson, a judge on the Food Network's “Cupcake Wars,” had a late-night pregnancy craving for, yes, cupcakes. As the founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes - one of the leading forces behind the haute cupcake craze - she should have had 24-hour access to all the vanillas, red velvets, milk chocolates she wanted, but it was not to be.

Sprinkles was already closed for the night, and Nelson’s craving went unsatisfied. The entrepreneur was inspired, and she turned her misfortune into a goldmine: a 24-hour Cupcake ATM.
