While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday.

On top of spaghetti, all covered with cheese - January 4 is National Spaghetti Day!

Get your comfort food on by whipping up an easy spaghetti dish at the end of this long (and bitterly cold!) day. And don't forget the spicy meatballs!

The long, thin strands of pasta, made with semolina and water, get their name from "spago," meaning "twine." Quite imaginative, those Italians. The pasta masters started cranking out thin forms of their favorite carbohydrate in the 12th century, which eventually led to the creation of pasta factories in the 1800s. Spaghetti for everyone!

Our early attempts at spaghetti dishes here in the U.S. sound dismal at best - "Spaghetti Italienne," a dish of super soggy noodles with a broth-based tomato sauce, was the only way to get your stringy pasta in the latter part of the 1800s. Now we've got a handle on it, and spaghetti has become an American staple.

Make yourself a classic comfort dish of spaghetti bolognese. This hearty meal will warm you from your head to your toes, and it's just bursting with flavor.

The largest bowl of spaghetti ever recorded was in March 2010 when a Buca di Beppo restaurant in California filled an emptied swimming pool with more than 13, 780 pounds of the slippery stuff. Now that's a never-ending pasta bowl!
