Pssst! Got a sec to chat?

We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.

Consider the daily Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic.

I'm going to enter and then leave immediately while hitting you with this pearl of wisdom.

When you breathe, you inspire. When you don't breathe, you expire.

    Think about it.

Just back from lunch: note to self, the next time the weather says sunny and a high of 70, book myself out, and load the fishing gear for the day. Too danged nice outside!

I think this is one of the weirdest Klatch days on record. We are all over the posting map not only "physically" but we are also generating at a "randomness factor" that surpasses any prior scramble................and that didn't make much sense either.....................

we just hafta get this thing in the right direction AND disable the modbots. We are reaching "critical mass."

    September 29, 2011 at 3:05 pm |
    • AleeD@MicG

The zombie modbots better be careful ..... QOE's reaching for her discombobulated spork .....

So we need to find a bomb shelter that can not only keep us safe from the upcoming zombie apocalypse, but also from a total Klatsch meltdown...

      Any ideas?

      September 29, 2011 at 3:20 pm |
    • Queen of Everything@MG, AleeD and DJCP

A zombie shelter is a grand idea. Everybody grab a spork and start digging!

      September 29, 2011 at 3:21 pm |
    • AleeD@MicG & DJCP

There's always the Chumarino's Cave. Or the Lounge's dungeon is pretty secure. Water-tight, too. We'll just have to re-stock it after Sir Bid's NFL victory party.

Note to self: re-polish the pole to remove unknown substances.

Suffice it to say ladies, that we here in the Klatch love and adore the both of you and would NEVER say or do anything direspectful to either of you.

That said the modbot can get really annoying, especially given that we can spend the time to type out a message, sometimes something urgent, only to see the moderation message...If there is frustration, it is at the Ghost in the Machine, not at the ModBabes...:)

Oh this is going to get ugly... they just announced a round of layoffs for NY state employees from one of the two state employee unions.

There were signs earlier for the member voting on a deal with the governor (one that didn't actually guarantee that there wouldn't be layoffs even if they said yes to it, so I can understand why a number of people would have said no)... and over this someone put an additional sign: To the 19,000 members that voted No, thank you. Maybe you could help me move out my stuff on my last day of work.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:59 pm |
    • Jerv@Mil

Well, I hope you are not a state employee then, I'm so tired of hearing all this bad economic news. Hell, bad news in general.

        September 29, 2011 at 12:57 pm |

LOL. How did your fascination with sporks get started?

        September 29, 2011 at 12:59 pm |
      • Queen of Everything@AleeD

At times I tend to fixate on certain words with good mouthfeel. Sporks is just a funny word to say, at least for me. Also, I find them oddly fascinating.

        September 29, 2011 at 1:27 pm |
      • AleeD@QOE

Oh my ... *fanning self* ... a good mouthfeel?!
*whispering* just hit the post button and nobody gets ....... moderated.

Do any other words strike your fancy, Milady?

        September 29, 2011 at 1:39 pm |
      • Queen of Everything@AleeD

I also enjoy the words discombobulated, peduncle, vesicle and azzbugs. I hate saying the word panties. It makes me cringe.

        September 29, 2011 at 1:59 pm |
      • AleeD@QOE

Interesting. There's a lady at work who abhors company politics. She has bequeathed such nonsense
        nit-wittery and b00bery
        I can't say she's wrong.

Why does saying panties make you cringe?

        September 29, 2011 at 2:17 pm |
      • Queen of Everything@AleeD

I haven't been able to pin point what it is about the word panties that just grates on my nerves. Wingnut is a good word too.

        September 29, 2011 at 2:23 pm |
      • AleeD@QOE & Truth

Love the word wingnut(tery). Envelops so many levels of idiocy in one funny word. My boss uses "wingnut" alot to describe our Production supervisor's actions. :)

      it's weird.

I had two posts yesterday that got moderated IN REPLY to someone and when I checked this morning, they had been "approved" but disconnected from their proper place in the chain. They went to the bottom on the chain as if they were among the earliest posts. Why does it DO that!!!!!??

aaaaaaarrrrrrrgh! Makes me kraaaaazy...........(Said with great respect to our kind keepers and referees Kat and SLT!)

      September 29, 2011 at 1:40 pm |
      • JBJingles@MicheleG

Maybe that's why things are topsy turvy! Foil hats and sporks for all!!

        September 29, 2011 at 1:48 pm |
      • AleeD@MicG

That's what happened to my posts to Kat below. I clicked on "reply" but got they posted under her posts. Weird how the modbots are acting. I'm thinkin' QOE's sporkin threats are putting some shiver in their timbers.

The moderation, flip-flopped comments, missing klatsch members...these are all signs of a Zombie Apocolypse. I'm absolutely positive of that.

An old man goes to the Wizard to ask him if he can remove a curse he has been living with for the last 40 years.

The Wizard says, 'Maybe, but you will have to tell me the exact words that were used to put the curse on you.'

The old man says without hesitation, 'I now pronounce you man and wife.'

      And back at 'cha!
      A Police STOP at 1AM
An elderly man is stopped by the police around 1 a.m. and is asked where he is going at this time of night.
The man replies, "I am going to a lecture about alcohol abuse and the effects it has on the human body."
The officer then asks, "Really? Who is giving that lecture at this time of night?"
      The man replies,
      .
      ..
      "That would be my wife."

Good Morning Peoples.Running Waaaaaaaay behind due to a late nite load of supposed strawberries. I wouldn't eat these things, but I get paid to haul this stuff. Anyway, sitting in Tallahassee right now and definetly plan on visiting The Voodoo Woman in NOLA. Seems as though I'm getting competition from Jerv and Queenie.

    September 29, 2011 at 10:01 am |
    • RichardHead

      Well,I'm 2 for 2 on moderation.

      September 29, 2011 at 10:04 am |
      • Kat Kinsman

Again - it's just the software! I did, however, look in the Pending queue, and one of yours used the word b*tch. The software simply will not let that through. Even if you're talking about "B*tch-slapping a moderator." Which you really oughtn't.

I know you're being playful, but still - please remember that Sarah and I are real people and we're working as hard as we possibly can. We had around 1,500 comments come through yesterday, about 100 of which ended up in the moderation queue. Having to sift through those on top of creating content is a huge job and we NEED your patience - ideally without being called names.

        Thank ya kindly.

Good morning everyone and happy.....new year?

I don't get it...oh wait, do you mean Rosh Hashanah?

Anyhow, I foresee piles of paperwork in my near future, so I better get crackin'! Let's see how this fruit punch fares as a morning starter!!

    September 29, 2011 at 9:18 am |
    • JainaJade@DJChilly

Yeppers Rosh Hashanah started last night at sundown so time to eat all your honey, apples, and pomegranates in order to insure a sweet and fruitful new year :-) My Challah is also doing it's thing at home and then tonight I will be braiding it and then enjoying it...hopefully I will be able to get it round this year!

      September 29, 2011 at 10:36 am |

Well then, I'll have to check if we have any of that stuff when I get back home.

In the meantime, I think I'll enjoy this tasty chorizo, bacon & ham omelette & fries that I got from the cuban cafe two blocks down, along with some green Tabasco sauce.

Oh, and some hot chocolate. Can't forget the hot chocolate!

Morning Truth and all. Kind of cool and breezy here in VA as well. As a consequence, the building managers turned the air back. Grrrr. Thanks for the eats! Hey, did you doctor prescribe anything for the HB?

    September 29, 2011 at 8:20 am |
    • Truth@Jerv

I am hoping to avoid meds, so I have knocked off all caffeine, salt and the like. That caused a pretty good drop, so i am hoping that will be enough. I still have plenty of time before the college requires me to enroll, which is how I got flagged in the first place. I am scheduled to give blood this weekend, so they will document me there as well.

      September 29, 2011 at 8:32 am |
    • Truth@Jerv

      Grrr...I keep getting moderated.
I'm trying to avoid meds, so I just quit anything harmful, specifically coffee. Caffeine raised heck with my BP. Seems to be working so far.

      September 29, 2011 at 9:52 am |
      • Jerv@Truth

Good for you dude. If I dropped about 15 lbs I probably could get off my BP kill pills but I'm too damn lazy.

        September 29, 2011 at 10:11 am |
      • Truth@Jerv

It all came about when I decided to go back to college to become an emt. A physical was required, so I went in and the flagged me at 175/120. Told me to change immediately, so I quit all caffeine and salt, and i have been coming down pretty well. I tested last weekend at 139/96, which for me is GREAT. I am slated to give blood this weekend and if they test me to be acceptable, I will re-submit my documentation, so i can register for January enrollment at school.

A lot of hassle for community college, imho, but I understand why.

        September 29, 2011 at 10:25 am |
      • Jerv@Truth

139 is pretty good. It used to be considered normal until just recently when they lowered the threshold.

How is everyone doing today? I have coffee brewing and Donuts are on the counter in back. Dig in and enjoy!

Lots of wind in Denver today, but MUCH cooler. Kind of nice.
