While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday. Raise your glass and pour yourself a strong one - August 25 is National Whiskey Sour Day. Don't get your mouth all twisted up at the idea of this sweet and sour quaff. Splash some bourbon, lemon juice and sugar together and shake or serve it straight. So shake it up, baby. Add a lemon wedge or maraschino cherry to your whiskey sour and knock back some happiness. This is one drink that won't make you sour. |

T-minus 10 minutes to transport. Sarge just informed us that whiskey will not be among the base provisions on the next drop. A permanent directive. I wonder who is the cherry faced non-combat admin that thought of this crap. They take away every minor thing we get to enjoy, until we have nothing to pass time with. I wish I could say I had a stash hoarded but I drank like there was no end in sight. Guess that's the fool's admission of "don't be so sure to take everything for granted".

I know it's 5:00 somewhere in the world but, I couldn't handle this for Breakfast.
Whiskey Sours remind me of being a kid and my parents throwing parties with their friends in the 1970s. By ten or so, the adults would be hammered and the stereo was playing Englebert, and Tom Jones, while the young'uns were downstairs watching Carol Burnett at ten p.m. eastern on CBS.
Ahhh, yeah. The good old days. My childhood was quite similar and I've been a whiskey woman ever since! Bottoms up, y'all!

Sadly, my days of whiskey sours are over. One nite of overindulgence – many years ago – and it's just not my first choice anymore. Had they been made with something other than a powdered sour mix, maybe I wouldn't have, um, "rejected" them the way I did. ;)
