In case y'all were wondering, it took about 37 seconds for D.C. and New York area bars and restaurants to start offering Earthquake Specials via social media. Early passengers on the disaster drinking bandwagon included:

@DestinationBar: Earthquake after-party? Today from 3pm to whenever. Just no shots of AfterShock.

@BBQNYC: Hey people WE ARE SERIOUS. We are having an earthquake party. If you have been evacuated join us for 20% off Milkshakes!

@BBQNYC: New addition to our #EarthQuake party! 50% off all SHAKEN cocktails until 5pm!! #party

@Macelleria: #TYKU Earthquake special in our very safe bunker-like space. 2 for 1 Shochu Martinis (equals exactly $5.90 each)

And the Washington Post has a whole bunch more on their blog.

And yep - our world got rocked here in Eatocracy's NYC HQ, but nothing went especially widdershins, except for a small, M&M-shaped pinata that fell off the top of a stack of cookbooks...about 30 minutes after the fact. Please stay safe and let us know how you're doing.

I am a particular fan of the fact they made the drinks the same cost as the Richter scale read. Makes me laugh. Now, if only a 1.5 would happen and people freak out about it, we'd be talking some excellent drink specials, now wouldn't we. Kinda wish I were a New Yorker to take advantage of these creative sales. Alas, I'm stuck in Seattle.

Great. Now they're going to find a way to induce earthquakes as a promotional device, like Presidents Day sales.

Ah, the sweet, quick taste of capitalism. I will have a scotch on the rocks, bartender. And a martini, shaken, not stirred, of course.
