Good after noon! Fun meetings *rolls eyes* are done for the day! dicussing the merits of batch or record level rejections on variable length vs. fixed length files was really fun though! In other news, I hear the "Tipsy Cow" food and adult beverages are really good and reasonable...just trying to decide if I should put that one on my expense report! 1/2 price wine and drinks on wed., so I think that will be dinner (not the drinks, but the food).

    • Jerv@JBJ

Thanks for stopping by. I'm gonna call it a day myself. Don't work too hard!

      August 22, 2011 at 3:15 pm |
    • The Witty One@JBJ

And you came to the obvious conclusion that batch level rejections may be more efficient but the record level rejections are so much cleaner and the file type really has nothing to do with it?

      August 22, 2011 at 3:16 pm |
      • JBJingles_from Madison, WI@TWO

Actually, I came to the conclusion that if it was a flat file then you could/should batch reject if record length was off or had any structural issues as you could not complete processing the file, however, if it was variable length then you would record reject and could continue processing the remaining records. I feel like the scarecrow in Wizard of Oz! The scary thing is I really understand all this...not sure how/when that happened!

        August 22, 2011 at 3:25 pm |
      • JBJingles_from Madison, WI@TWO

correction, I meant fixed-length not flat file, but you knew what I meant, right?

        August 22, 2011 at 3:27 pm |

Hi everyone! I raided my parent's garden over the weekend and whipped up a big batch of vegetable soup to put in the freezer. I picked a turnip because it was there. What the heck should I do with it???

    August 22, 2011 at 1:12 pm |
    • Jerv@Faith

Hello! That's a tough one. I've never cooked with turnips. I seem to remember Truth chatting with someone about turnips one day?

I don't think it was me...Not a big veggie guy here. I am strictly meat, bread and potatoes. I do drink a daily can of V8 for this reason though...

        August 22, 2011 at 1:35 pm |
      • PeteKnipple

Hi, turnips are very easy to grow and be sure to get the younger ones as older become woody.
The greens are a bonus just like beet greens.
Twice a year experience doesn't rate as a favorite being bitter, so you need to counter with another taste, sweet or sour or about anything, bacon works well as does apple...

        August 22, 2011 at 7:55 pm |
    • mad wendy

i like to chop up raw turnips and put them on my salads.. they add a nice crisp bite to them! akin to a radish.

When I first read your post, I thought you "pickled a turnip." Doo-di-doo (ala Carlos Mencia)

I've never had a turnip or a "rudabegger" in any form. I've heard you cube 'em, boil 'em then mash 'em up with butter.

i just have to share something with everyone today. people in today's world have NO consideration for anyone else other than themselves. we live in a selfish, arrogant world. a good friend of mine lost one of his best friends on saturday due to someone's impatience and idiocy. Bill, and offduty cop, was leading a funeral procession, and some A-HOLE decided he didnt want to wait for the line of cars, so he pulled out and slammed into Bill's motorcyle, killing him. my friend Dan tried doing CPR on him and attempted to stop the blood flow, but was unable to save him. this is the 5th accident of its kind in the last 2 years here in KC – the first fatality. what will it take for the punishment of hitting a participant in a funeral procession to be on the level of the horridness of the crime?

MANY, MANY condolences to you on the loss of your friend. We had a similar case out here just this morning. I agree with you that civility is disapparing faster than a pack of smokes at an AA meeting. Thoughts and prayers to all involved.

      What?....WHAT?!

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!? RESPECT THE FALLEN, YOU...GRR!
That person should be charged with murder, or at least manslaughter! Plus, it should be taken very seriously since it was a COP that they hit!

      Freaking...AAARRRRGH!

      August 22, 2011 at 11:02 am |
    • mad wendy

Thank you – i will pass along all the good thoughts to Dan. i just cant believe it. i did just hear from Dan tho that they are filing charges of manslaughter...and possibly a few more charges will be filed. failure to yield, reckless driving, etc... too bad they cant set up him on a bike and run into him with a tahoe.... i think it helps that there are several eye witnesses that saw the whole thing...and they stuck around to file reports.

      August 22, 2011 at 11:05 am |
    • AleeD@mad wendy

Please accept my humble condolences, Dear wendy. That "me first" attitude is infuriating on so many levels.

Isn't it a felony to interfere with a funeral procession? I thought that law was put in place for exactly these reasons. Guess this turd decided the law didn't apply to him. I hope they throw the book at him.

Good morning all! There are times when I absolutely hate working on a college campus. The first day of classes would be one of those times. If the number of people who can't figure out how to swipe their parking pass to get into the garage is directly proportional to the success of our country then we are screwed...and not in a good way.

Weekend here was good. Broncos won on Saturday night, and the 'Boys were all but done by the time we got home last night. Good to see football back in action, as I do not see basketball happening anytime soon.

Good Morning..or is it? First day of school here in Texas and parents are scrambling to pry the video game controller's out of their pudgy kids hands. Wake up Lil' Johnny and roll your fat azz out of bed.....Your new parents for a year are waiting on you with anticipation to actually teach you something. Coffee is on !

Morning RicH and everyone! The chick in that video clip must be on meth or something. Yup, schools back in which means more traffic. I can't imagine graduating from college and trying to find a job in this economy. It's too damn early to be getting political on a food blog.
