While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday. Don't boil over with excitement - August 9 is National Rice Pudding Day. If you're having trouble munching down your grains, add some milk, sugar and cinnamon to the mix for a savory-turned-sweet delight. Whether you boil, bake or use a combination of the two - rice puddin' heads are serious about their methods. With variations spanning the globe, you can spice up any rice pudding recipe. In Costa Rica, arroz con leche means stirring in sweetened condensed milk, while the same moniker calls for coconut milk in Puerto Rico. Toss in some rum-soaked raisins or maple syrup and you're on the way to a rice-filled paradise. And according to Dutch folklore, it'll be the dish waiting for you at the pearly gates, golden spoon included. |

We've had some very appetizing pictures in Eatocracy. That above, unfortunately, is not one of them...just sayin.
