While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday. Chip, chip hooray! - August 4 is National Chocolate Chips Day! Chopping up a chocolate bar into little morsels and putting them in a batch of cookie dough may be one of the best ideas Ruth Graves Wakefield of the Toll House Inn ever had. Since we don't know dear Ruth, it's safe to say that chocolate chip cookies are one of the best American creations to date. If your own prized cookie recipe requires the attendance of all-important chocolate chips, carry on! Otherwise, you may want to take a gander at this fine rendition from iReporter Cynthia Falardeau's grandmother: Grandma Carr's Chocolate Chip Cookies Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, soda and salt; set aside. Combine the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Mix dry and wet ingredients together. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10 minute until lightly brown. Cool for one minute on baking sheet and then remove to wire racks to cool completely. Now we've just got one more question for ya: Got milk? |

Ok–who picked August 4 as chocolate chip day? It's HOT, it's ALWAYS hot on August 4. There will be melted chocolate everywhere! I guess August 5 is "Try to get melted chocolate off the car seats/furniture/your summer clothes Day". Should have picked March 4, usually no 100 degree days then.
BOYCOTT HERSHEYS MADE IN MEXICO CANDY
READ THE LABEL FIRST BEFORE YOU BUY
The chocolate cookie recipe I have found mixes the sweet and salty–chocolate chips and crushed potato chips together–pure heaven!!!
Go send a few to NJ Governor Chris Christie and do the state a favor. They say he has more gut than Obama, literally speaking. I guess Chris christie has more gut than a Suma wrestler. Go on and send him some healthy chocolate chip cookies and some greasy fries. The state needs any help you can provide. Please!
@AleeD – LOL.
It is also: national IPA day
and obama's birthday
AND
Jerzday
I'm waiting for National Scotch on the Rocks day!
You also just missed "Grab Some Nuts Day", which was yesterday:
http://www.examiner.com/holidays-in-dayton/august-3rd-is-grab-some-nuts-day
And yes, it is a FOOD holiday!
Love grabbin' me some nutz.
Sadly, it looks like you missed it (or something similar) for this year

G'head and have one on me today instead.
I love raw cookie dough – toll house cookies, but WITHOUT the chips. I like the brown sugar and salt taste. But I also like to each fudge with cranberry juice. I agree about eating the chips straight from the bag – why do I feel guilty. It should be just like eating M&Ms, right?
I'm going to change my name – I meant to say "EAT fudge...."
Crap! ...why do I feel guilty?
As the Cookie Monster would say, "Must...have...CHOCOLATE CHIPS! Nom, nom, nom!!!!"
"nom nom nom" LMAO!
they should rename it to fat pill day, or fertilizer for a large behind day, or put your kid in a debetic coma day
Another one who's cornflakes got p33d in.
David, instead of fat pills, why not sample a happy pill or maybe an I can spell pill or even have a seat in the stfu cafe for a while?
You made me laugh!!! Good job!
Well said, AleeD!
You probably do not get l@!d very often, do you?
How about just STFU day?
What is "debetic"? hmmm sounds scary, I hope its not contagious!
Raw cookie dough is my favorite way to eat chocolate chips.
Hubby thinks eating salty/savory snacks for dessert is weird. I think dessert should be what you want it to be.
I have never understood why potato chips are totally acceptable to eat as a snack out of the bag, but if you do the same thing with chocolate chips people think you are weird. Just sayin.
Truth: You have a point. However, eating (and sharing) chocolate chips out of a candy dish on one's desk is perfectly acceptable.
Maybe it's like the argument about whether ketchup should be ever been seen in its bottle?
