While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday. Time to to enter that seed-spitting contest - August 3 is National Watermelon Day! Summer is prime time to get your mouthful of watermelon before this seasonal fruit (or is it a vegetable?) rolls away - or explodes?!? Besides having an exciting effect on people, watermelon has also been associated with ... vampires? Cue the glitter and field full of flowers! Apparently vampire watermelons "develop" when left on the ground after ten days. Then, they roll around and wreak general havoc. So before you go to bed, you might want to go all "fruit ninja" on those possible blood-suckers springing up in the garden patch, just sayin'. |
