While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday.

Do you feel lucky, punk? Well, do ya? - July 20 is National Fortune Cookie Day!

Just one little snap is all it takes to open up your destiny, if you believe in the wise words to be found at the heart of fortune cookies.

But no matter how many Chinese restaurants serve these little Magic 8 Ball-esque treats after dinner, the true origin of the fortune cookie appears to be Japanese, marketed as Chinese and largely consumed only by Americans. Traditional Japanese temple cookies, called omikuji, seem to be the overwhelming inspiration.

Approximately 3 billion fortune cookies are made for consumption in the US each year, all based out of US factories - so we can be proud of these truly American creations.

Destiny-filled dessert not your thing?  Find out just how many licks it takes until you get to the center, because today is also National Lollipop Day.

Today just may be your lucky (or lickety) day.

America is being bored again on a planet of 2 billion suffering humans. Why not a "Remembrance of Global Human Slaves Day"?

Pagan America gets only pagan stupidity and none of fortune. Only polishing brains and hard work bring in fortunes and the Chinese know that.

I always have thought the best wway to propose would be to do so via fortune cookie. Would take a little planning, but you could slip it into the cookie.

Fortune cookies are surprisingly easy to make. You just have to have the fortunes ready to go as soon as you pull the cookies from the oven because you can only fold the dough while it's still hot. They are also a good idea for party favors. People like them when you tailor the fortune to them.

For laughs, when you read a fortune cookie fortune, end it with "in bed."

So The Witty One's fortune would instead read, "You're Pretty in bed" HA!
