While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday.

Nobody better lay a finger on my butter crunch - June 29 is National Almond Butter Crunch Day.

This fancy holiday snacker packs enough sugar to sedate someone with a serious sweet tooth and just by the name, you know it brings the crunch.

This candy mixture is a cousin to toffee, and is sometimes lumped in as a member of the immediate family.  Almond butter crunch is really like an almond brittle, sandwiched between two layers of melted chocolate and chopped pecans.

As finicky as they come, this treat  sets up based on the amount of humidity in the air, so keep a weather eye open - but don't let the challenge scare you away from churning out a batch of homemade candy. Try David Lebovitz's toffee-like twist or this nostalgic almond butter crunch recipe (complete with instructions from mom).

Just don't drop the pan with those butter fingers of yours.

Almond milk is a very common preparation from almond. Grind blanched almonds to a smooth paste; add sugar and cold boiled water — giving it the consistency of milk for a nutritious, healthy drink rich in vitamins. It is easily digestible than cow’s milk making it an ideal wholesome drink for children. Almond butter is another variation prepared from almonds, beneficial for older people who don’t get enough proteins in their diets. Besides the intake of high calorie protein, other ingredients contained in almonds are easily digestible.*';"

Your local Friendly's restaurants, if you're lucky, will have butter crunch ice cream. Doesn't have nuts *in* it, but you could get almonds as a topping.
