Pssst! Got a sec to chat?

We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.

Consider the daily Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic.

Anything to beat the heat in Palm Springs, Ca. Expect about 110 today. Nice cool off from 115. So, hi everyone.

I'm good. I usually check in here later in the evenings when everyone is gone for the day. But that's just my work schedule. I'm just trying to keep the kids busy during the day, without having to be their entertainment. With youngs ones, it's a delicate balance. But, seems to finally be happening this year!

I'll try to check back in later.

@JainaJade–I really enjoy reading the recipes on your website and am determined to make a few of them once we get some more local vegetables harvested!

On this very day, at this very time exactly one year ago, I had been in labor for 1 hour and 22 minutes. It was two days before my due date but my OB decided that the safest plan for all involved was to induce me. At 0700 the Pitocin was started and at 0927 my beautiful 7lbs 9oz, 21 inch long Adam Michael was born. So Happy Birthday to my baby!

I had it in a bowl as a main dish. Very filling. I did your college fridge trick. Added half a tomato and a handful of frozen corn that had been lying around in the freezer. And yeah, I sometimes hate it when my gut instinct and first impressions are correct. Kinda eerie sometimes. Hope you feel better.

Although a little sore last night/today. What they failed to mention until after the procedure (at 1pm) is that I can't shower or drive for 24 hrs! So, I'll be home today...don't think they will want me there. LOL

The 4H thread is ok – not super hot. There aren't too many vegans, just a lot of people defending 4H against those who don't like it. I'm trying to stir the pot though.

A man fell asleep on the beach under the noon day sun and suffered a severe sunburn to his legs. He was taken to the hospital where his skin had turned bright red, was painful and had started to blister. Anything that touched his legs caused agony. The doctor prescribed continued intravenous feedings of water and electrolytes, a mild sedative and Viagra. Rather astounded, the nurse inquired, "What good will Viagra do him in his condition?" The doctor replied, "It will keep the sheet off his legs."

If you want a kick of energy, kick the caffeine and get some vitamin B complex. Take a couple in the morning and you are good to go. A 5 hour energy shot is pretty much the same but has some caffeine in it.

As far as "natural" energy, this is the stuff to use.

Ok, here's a cute story to start the day. I get home last night and noticed a squirrel hanging out on the top rail of my patio. He was looking down into the patio quite intently. I didn't think anything of it. So I changed clothes, put on some news and watched tv for a while, but eventually noticed what the squirrel was staring at. It turned out tha a baby squirrel had jumped down into the patio, which is fully enclosed and could not get out. I called animal control, who was closed for the day. I thought about my options, and wished I had a pellet rifle, as I don't think my HOA (not to mention the neighbors) would appreciate my using a shotgun. Then it hit me – I have a perfectly good cat who lives for this sort of thing. Ten minutes later, we have one less squirrel in the world and one highly adrenalized cat, who just earned his keep. I thought about dressing it out and trying the "give squirrel a whirl" recipe, but it was just a young'un, without much meat.

Perfect! I do a similar thing anytime I trap mice in the house, to the garage with them, the garage cat loves a slow snack.

    • RichardHead@Truth

What? You didn't fry up the "Nuts"? I hate HOA's....There are only 2 streets in my whole section of Old Katy with no HOA and I live on one of them. Take that corporate America.

    • wendy

my first thought is: poor baby squirrel!! then my instincts kick in and good for the cat for ridding you of a tree rat!! too bad i couldnt lend you my dogs for a bit..they'd def have a good time with it. since the mother's day massacre i havent seen a single squirrel in my yard...and the birds are getting scarce too...

      • Truth@Wendy

I was just going to hang a blanket over to see if he would figure out how to get out, but Bride didn't want a blanket getting chewed up. I also did not want the critter climbing into the dryer vent and potentially dying inside. I think this was the best solution for all parties involved (except of course, the squirrel)

I concur on the preventative maintenance–Gonna replace the A/C compressor on Big Blue this weekend. Katy got almost 2 inches of rain yesterday and scattered showers this morning. Why do these DumbAzzes always speed up in the rain and drive without their headlights on when it rains? It's nice to be home tho.

Defensive driving, get it?. "But I can see so why do I need to turn on my lights?" Dumb, dumber and dumbest. Well, anyway glad you got rain and are home.
