Pssst! Got a sec to chat? We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here. Consider the daily Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic. |

Don't forget, if you're alone, surfing the nets and could use a good laugh, there's always

:)
Well kids, I'm off in search of roasted red peppers...I think I may have found the magic Carrabba's recipe for the best sauce EVER for crab cakes. Have a wonderful evening!
The grieving process isn't something you get thru overnight. Some days are hard; some days are ... less hard. It takes time. People like us Klatschkies, who know you and love you, understand that. We will do whatever it takes to help pull you thru and support you. Whatever you need. That's what friends do.
Couldn't agree more or have said it better.
Thank you all. Like I said, it means a LOT.
Not sure why, but I have been feeling all week like I just want to dig a hole and go away. Not a good feeling.
Thanks for making me dig out...:)
We miss your funny! And you missed some fun on the ice cream thread earlier, but it died out at lunch...I think we scared the trolls away. Note to self to just egg them on next time and not scare them away.
I was busting my hump on this project for two days because I had the impression from my boss that I was under the gun (along with this slug-of-a-farging-engineer) to get this redesign finished by a given date. Duh slug tells me today that he's got an extra 4 hours in for this week, so he's taking 1/2 a day off. My words to him were, uh no. We're salary, there is no "extra" time. This is YOUR project. You stay until it's done. For a change, he listened to me without a fight. HOWEVER ....
I found out today that he's been surfing the net, reading the paper at his desk and having just a merry old time. So, while I AM going to get the work done in my usual timely fashion, I am no longer feeling the pressure anymore. It's a relief, but damn ....
/end rant
I'm here. Just having a rough week. If anyone needs me, I will be sitting quietly in my recliner. Thanks for all of your concern. Means a lot!
Thanks for letting us know you are alright. {{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}
I'll be here late if you want to talk.
)))))))))HUGS(((((((((
*hugs* It's good to know you're ok. :)
*Joins in* Coffee Klatsch Group Hug! AAAHAHAHAHA!~
Come out, come out where ever you are! People worry you know...
Could Truth be playing games with the Queen's attendance policy? ;)
He knows the teacher is out today so he's playing hooky!
Anyone have a good crabcake recipe for me?? I picked up some beeeutiful lump crab meat this weekend and need to use it soon...
Why ruin perfectly beeeutiful crab meat with all that extra stuff? If it were me, I'd heat it up, mix it with a little melted butter, and just eat it by the spoonful.
Hmmm, that's an idea, but I usually reserve the buttah for king crab legs...this is premium lump blue crab meat and I don't know of other recipe's other than the crabcakes. Time to search the internets.
I'm with you on that – usually butter is reserved for the snow crab legs – and only sometimes. But I've been known to eat it by the spoon full, or to make a good aioli, mix the crab into that with some seasoning (it changes depending on what I have), and eat that on a good bread – open faced.
Well, as you probably know, I love to get creative in the kitchen, but the hubs is not amused or appreciative when that happens...so crabcakes it will be tonight! He will probably have his with jarred tarter sauce and I can get creative on an aoli or something for mine. Carrabba's in Florida has THE most amazing red pepper sauce they serve with crab cakes and I have not been able to find a recipe! :(
I'm so sorry. Lucky for me, Hubby doesn't like crab cakes, so when we get crab legs, that's all it is, sweet, yummy crab legs. Just have to fight over them, he's been known to steal them from my plate if I crack them 1st. He hates the 'messy job', so I generally do it, but then either it's him I'm fighting with over the legs, or the cats sitting on the floor, trying to get a piece.
Stupid animals will cat good crab meat, but only like canned tuna – so sushi grade for them. LOL
Aoli is some of the best stuff.... might also want to look at remoulade recipes (perhaps instead of the jarred tarter sauce?)
OK, I think I've settled on a duo of crab...since I can't think of a trio! LOL Crab Cakes with remoulade, crab cocktail over shredded lettuce with a spicy cocktail sauce. Thanks!
Has anyone besides me played with the Google home page? I was trying to plinck out a song earlier today. Fun!
ME!!! But it's hard to do when you don't have the sound on your pc turned on. Gotta be mindful of my coworkers after all. LOL
I was plinking before the rest of the folks came in. I get how annoying it can be to listen to others pluck notes at random.
Do you have sound on your home PC?
When I turn it on I do. I generally don't have the sound on any PC. I don't know why, I just don't. I'll be playing with it tonight though :)
To make up for lack of one yesterday, time for #2!
Are you mad at me 'cuz I drank the last beer? Actually Odie helped me but I don't want to get him busted.
Hi my friend! I thought you were driving or napping right now?? Hopefully not both at the same time. I know it was you drinking the beer cuz Odie doesn't touch the stuff...he goes for the creamer! LOL
Got to the hacienda around 4:30 a.m. made coffee and listened to WD snore for awhile. Then I took my nap. Finally up and around to get ready for Dallas. How's Hub's doing?
Hubs is good, he got Odie his "lion" haircut yesterday so we wouldn't track in anymore stuff from the yard...ADD at it's finest... My haircut = $25; Odie's haircut = $65. What is wrong with this picture??
Just donated blood. I'm pretty hungry (because that was my lunch hour). Ordering a salad to eat at my desk.
Which desk is yours my lovely?
*chuckle*
The one under the cloak of darkness, because I don't fare well under the sun either.
For those of you melting, here is some refreshment to think about.
Snow levels are dropping down close to 5,500' this morning with snow in Butte!
The snow is not sticking too much and should melt off by this afternoon. Looking at MDOT cameras, there is accumulating snow developing on Big Hole Pass, Lost Trail Pass, Elk Park and over Homestake Pass this morning.
One to two inches of snow is possible for Butte, however, as temperatures warm up later this afternoon, thunderstorms could form. Now that is a crazy weather pattern!
All of SW Montana has the potential to see .25" to 1" of rain today into this evening and that will continue a serious flood threat to area streams and larger rivers. Flood Warnings are up until further notice with the Big Hole River, Jefferson River, Gallatin River and Missouri River most susceptible to moderate to major flooding over the next 3 to 5 days.
Is this average weather for your neck of the woods for this time of year?
No, this is colder than the average by quite a bit, its normally around 70 or so for highs, 50 at night. Snow in June is not unusual now and then though, I have seen some every other year or so over the last 10 years. It was actually 81 here on Sunday, then the front moved in, back to cold and wet.
Damn pretty girsl and their devious eye doctor ways!
You were suppose to be looking at the eye chart silly.
Apparently not with her wearing a shirt like that! I wasn't complaining until I realized I had already handed them my debit card :(
Was the AC turned on High and her compasses were pointing Northward?
Pretty much. I ended up with two pairs of glasses and a pair of prescription sunglasses. Set me back a pretty penny.
Dang,That gives a whole new meaning to the term "Upsale" !
LOL!
On a positive note, my vision actually got better since my last exam 6 years ago. So that means these 3 pairs should last a loooonnngggg time.
you can always do LASIK...I know a great doctor in your neck of the woods. As of my last appt. I'm not 20/10 in both eyes :-D
I love my lasik eyes
Now I want ice cream! How is Cold Stone Creamery?? It's not very warm here, we have our usual June Gloom...which is well, gloomy.
I love cold stone. My favorite is "Founders Favorite" – sweet cream ice cream, brownies, pecans, caramel and chocolate sauce all mixed together. YUM
I've got a couple of frozen Coor's Lights..will that suffice?
If we're going that way... I've still got some frozen Mai Tai, and Pina Colada left.
We should take a field trip there. The chums haven't taken a field trip – or gone on vacation – in a good long time.
I will only go if Wendy is driving her convertible Miata and I can MOON all the other drivers. WD will only MOON the Truck Drivers.
I! WANT! IN!
I really want some Cold Stone now...
Field trip to Cold Stone! Awesome! Coffee ice cream with toasted almonds, caramel & chocolate chips. Yum!
Would you sing some Air Supply to calm Mare down please. :))))
I'm listening to some "classic metal" from the 80s now. I'm flying high!
Ummmmm...M.C. Hammer does NOT qualify as "classic metal".
Does "Quiet Riot" count? Or "Metallica"?
Jamie's got a Gun,to be used on Lauren. Damn,I'm a song writer.
LOL – it's dying over there – even "Tofu" isn't stirring them up again.
I was hoping Lauren was going to come back so I could get her going on the "holier than thou" grammer, yet still used "gonna".
Stupid, I know, but I'm in the process of doing mind numbing testing here, and need something to keep me awake.
I figured my bathroom remark would get some type of reaction. Want an Icee for a real good brain freeze?
Nothing is working. I guess the heat got to their brains, and they imploded, all because they wouldn't cool off with some ice cream.
Hello, all!! Tidepooling with the fam today! I will be MIA, for the rest of the day! Toodles!
Well done over there! Any bets on whether Lanfart, I mean Lanfear, is a vegan??
Vegan? maybe? Brainwashed psycho – yes.
Or it's just someone from here messing with us LOL
Whom would take on The Klatsch?????
LMAO! Lanfart! That is a bet I'm not gonna take. If he comes back are you going to ask?
You betcha I'm gonna ask!! ;)
God it feels good to vent! I need to find a local pottery throwing place .... in the meantime, venting here works great!
How's everyone here? Enjoying that ice cream? ;)))))
I can't wait until that troll Lanfear comes back from his lunch break to read all the stuff folks posted about the dooshbag.
Ditto. I wonder how one would post an aneurism? HA!
Speaking of lunch, I gotta get back to my yob man. Hugs to all! And happy posting!
Yeah, back to work for me too. I'll try to stop by before I leave to catch up. Caveman are you MTM? Whoever, that sh it that you have been posting has me rolling.
I must confess..... yes :)
Ice cream and red heads with whips, coulnd't get any better, eh?
Oh yeah – I'm with Jerv. I want Lauren to come back from lunch as well. She made it personal, and I'm going to have fun with it.
Add in bustiers, spiked heels and chocolate syrup and you've got yourself a deal. ;)
Come on guys – you forgot the most important thing. The Whipped Cream!
LMAO, your killing me!
I wonder where Truth is today?
I was thinking the same thing. I've also been wondering where Snowbunny hopped off to, I wanted to here how her arbitration went.
Didn't she say something to the affect of having to lay low for a while?
I know, huh? RH has called out to her a couple of times and no reply...hopefully just vacation or something fun.
Who the he!! let all the trolls out? Lauren is too funny
"Wow, wow, wow. Injured. I'm gonna go enjoy my lunch, now. Shall I grab you a bucket of oats on my way back?"
Just because I commented on her post, and called her a troll.
I'm going to have fun with her.
Gotta meeting to go to be back later.
OK, who's dennis?? Cracking me up over there...
I was laughing too!
Boy are you correct! Did you catch the god fearing muslim woman on @5 yesterday? Bunch of whackos I tell ya!
Yeah, I read her this morning. Crazy stuff but entertaining.
Troll alert on the icecream thread named Lanfear.
must...feed...the....trolls...
I'm getting out of my frustrations on the stupid people of the world...especially stupid people that can't appreciate a nice ice cream cone. Nothing like killing a bunch of Jedi and then celebrating with an ice cream sundae party *sigh* the good ole days
Amen to that!
T-G-I-T, that is all I have to say for now...
What do you cook/eat for dinner when it's hotter than hades, and you don't want to spend a lot of time cooking, or money for take out... AND you have a husband who happens to be VERY hungry?
Last night was rotisserie chicken and cold salads from the store – $10 for dinner, but he ate 2/3 of the chicken, so nothing left for lunches.
Today, I think it's going to be chicken fajita omelets with something.....
If I don't feed him enough, he'll raid the kitchen, and make a mess for me :)
I have a chipotle salad on my site that works well, you can add in the remaining chicken in order to add some more to it
there are also various bean based salads, such as chickpea or white bean. Just take two cans of the beans rinse well and then add some onion, carrots, fresh herbs and then toss with a simple vinaigrette
there are also various chilled soups you can do, both fruit based and tomato based.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to look at some and try them.
The everything salad, few different lettuce types, sprouts, maters, cucumbers, parmesian cheese, cheddar cheese, pepperoni, hardboiled eggs, snap peas/sugar peas, lots of croutons, whatever flavor dressing you like, and an apple waldorf salad on the side with it.
That sounds good. But what would I feed my husband an hour later? LOL He's been quite hungry lately. We're talking 2/3 of a chicken, 1.5 lbs of salad, and a few hours later 4 toaster waffles.
I swear, it's like having a teen boy in the house right now. :)
Well, if it's really that hot, how about some COLD cuts? =D *Canned laughter*
Smart Arse! :)
As soon as the thought came to mind, I HAD to do it! LOL
Funny – I would've done the same thing.
Watermelon? Bowls of cereal? Ice cream?
He ate half a box of Fiber One the other night, and the night before that, 3 ice cream cones. LOL
Gazpacho soup with either cheese toast or cold cheese and mustard sandwich.
I've never made gazpacho. I think I may try it this weekend. Thanks.
Mom would make this sandwich several times over the hot Florida Summer months. It was dinner for our family of 5. It's so much simpler to make than it is to write about. My spologies in advance for the wordiness. ;}
Horizontally slice a loaf of French or Italian 2 times bread so you're left with 3 looong pieces of bread.
Butter the 2 cut sides that you will be spreading your salads on (this is hard to describe without pictures).
Combine chopped green olives & softened cream cheese and spread it on one of the buttered slices.
Mix up your favorite tuna salad recipe and spread it on the other buttered slice.
Assemble all the slices so it's layered, bread, salad, bread, salad, bread.
Wrap it with plastic wrap, let it sit in the fridge over nite. The next day, slice it up in about 2-3 inch sections & serve! The best thing about this sandwich is it's versatility. There are SOOOO many variations to try.
Sounds like a muffaletta. I make something like that, and it's good, just takes about 1 day to get everything pressed and tasty.
Mom made this sandwich for us long before I even heard of a muffluetta, so I'm no expert. Isn't a muffuletta a sandwich made with chopped olives in oil on cold cuts?
I give up.
LOL! Is that you screwing up the Emeril Lagasse post?
Yes it is....yes it is.
And I just came to the realization that he says BAM!...not BANG!
I need a week off.
I mean BANG!
YO and present.....I agree with the techies here, that pic with the coffee splashing on the keyboard makes me wince.
The time zone thing says RH signed on at 3:30 AM my time. I will never be the first to check in here unless I have a major bout of insomnia.
Groggy morning hugs to the Klatchkies.........
In that case, it's time to start off the day with a bang!
I never was much of a Kiss fan and I don't think i've heard of the Bosstones. I listened to their "Kinder Words" song, that is pretty good.
BANG!
Morning chums. The minions went on a pizzelle making binge last night. I have brought the extras in this morning, with some fruit and whipped cream. There is also fruity tea for anyone who just likes their pizzelle plain.
Caution: there are no cicadas – or grasshoppers – in today's pizzelle.
Top of the morning to everyone!
Good morning, klatschkies!
Quick question, did anyone get the vid I posted on yesterday's thread? I don't remember if it got through or not...
Just checked and I don't see anything except the Peanut butter and jelly thing.
Morning all, yet another cold soggy day in MT. The river by my house is now officially flooding higher than I have ever seen it, almost 3 feet deep over the spur road to the south. Glad I bought on a hill.....
Morning all – waiting for the coffee to finish before heading off to work.... Another hot one here.
As a computer tech person, the main image for today's thread makes me shudder in horror.
Both for the wasted coffee and the wasted keyboard!
Keyboards are cheap – coffee, liquid gold!!!!
I think of it from the perspective of the poor tech that gets called in to fix the keyboard, after the user's tried to cover up what happened, and gets argumentative that the tech can't just fix it.
Trust me, I know – been there, done that.
That's why I used to keep the "good" keyboards for the people I liked, and the cheap crap went to the rest of the people. :)
Sorry 'bout that! Just trying to shake up the ol' image bank a tad.
I can neither confirm nor deny that I might have killed a keyboard with a Sangria Margarita...
At least the keyboard had a pleasant death.
I just order keyboards by the case, at 5 bucks each they arent worth my time, or even the price of a can of air. I replace about 40 a year here, it is a harsh environment, let alone when a key sticks and one of the 300 lb miners makes a fine adjustment to the keyboard with a 20 lb sledge......
"fine adjustment to the keyboard with a 20 lb sledge" LMAO!
Ohhh, them fine adjustments are minor compared to some of the other "interesting" things I have had to repair over the 13 years I have worked mining. There was the 18 inch spud wrench sticking out of an LCD that comes to mind immediately, apparently was having some troubles and threw the wrench, not really aiming, but scored the perfect kill shot. The printer with a fist hole in the side where the attempt to unjam the paper via force was aimed......
LOL! Sounds like miners are not the types of folks you would want to piss off. Any female miners?
Yes, there are a few female miners, I would guess about 5% of our work force here. There are a few that can hold their own in a bar brawl as well.
That was going to be my next question, if they kick azz like Linda Hamilton in Terminator II.
Good morning all! Traffic was a new level of hell so I wound up turning around and will be doing the work from home thing today....it should NEVER take 30minutes to go 2miles!
Were you coming up 28 towards the airport? They are milling and paving. I got stuck in that crap at 10:00 last night coming home from pool. ARGH!
down 28 towards the toll road, that part wasn't too horrible but the toll road wasn't moving. Got on toll road at just after 730 and when i got off at 815 i had just reached reston pkwy....and that was because i followed the line of cars going up the shoulder
Ouch! Thankfully I am in the office today and can avoid the toll road :)
totally drive by your office everyday....wish i was still working that area since i can get there via bike which is what the boy does
Tell him if he ever sees a prick in a bimmer honking at him, it's just me! :)
Hahaha like that narrows it down! Most people in this area are honking pricks :-)
It would be a polite honk...not a "you're about to cut me off and I hate you" honk.
he has only been honked at once, and that was more of an "i'm going to kill you" honk than anything else. Luckily he spends most of his time on the W&OD trail so primarily only has to worry about those Lance Armstrong wanna-be types
I haven't ever ridden there. Of course, I haven't had a bike in 12 years either...
Good morning all.
Exhausted. More cleaning at the Manor last night for me, and more tonight. The fiance works in NYC during the week and often has gigs on the weekends, so he's not home to help. And we're both kinda packrats. And I had to get things out of the house I grew up in (a trailer just older than me that is falling apart from age- may I not be emulating it!). So... massive de-clutter has been going on, mostly just me. Gods, does my body feel it too. My brother helped the other day get stuff into the basement (BIG HELP!!!).
There's still tons to do, but at least I can see my couch (yes, it's been that bad). And I have a long-haired cat... a white, dark grey, and orange calico Maine Coon mix. So once the de-clutter is done, I have to get the carpets deep cleaned (anyone know just how well renting a Rug Doctor works?)
So the fiance is taking my brother and I out for hibachi tomorrow night (filet and shrimp- here I come!), and getting me a spa package to use (I'm going to try to schedule an appointment for Sunday).
On the other hand, I re-started Weight Watchers last week and weighed in for my first week... and lost 1.6 lbs!
Good for you on the weight loss. I need to do that. Do yourself a favor and hire someone to clean your carpets.
Good Morning..Concerning the rental of the rug doctor-I find that people never clean the machines when done with them and you end up with al their dirt back on your carpet. Check out Stanley Steamer or any other company to do it for you as most of the time they will move the furniture for you. They are pretty close in price versus the rental machine and all the dirt and stuff goes into their truck. Good Luck.
Agreed!
Jerv & Richard- I'll talk to the fiance about it and see if it can go into the budget.
Good morning all! The boys and I are sitting down to breakfast and then I will be dropping Thing 1 off at his morning summer camp. Two whole hours with just Thing 2 at home with me! WooHoo! I think I'm going to use the time to mop the kitchen and bathroom floors.
Oh man, I loved summer camp when I was a kid. Will Thing 1 be swimming and horseback riding?
He's doing a Little Tikes sports camp at our town park this week from 9-11 every morning. Today they were doing track and field but they do go swimming tomorrow. The park does a different camp for 3-5 year olds every other week during the summer. We may sign him up for another camp in July.
Sounds like fun! Me and my brothers went to camp Ranchoframasa in Indiana the summer of 78 in Indiana. It was the best.
Make sure you wring out Thing 2 thoroughly when you are done mopping. Don't want him to get sick.
*whispering and tip-toeing to the coffee pot* Thanks for the rich coffee, Rich. ;)
Morning all! Just checking in and poking around on the other threads before I get back into my projects today.
Have a great day everyone!
Morning everyone. RicH, you had me rolling with your "will you tie my shoe laces" post!
Ha! She sounds like she would be useful if I was ever hitch hiking. :))
Haha! For some reason that reminds me of that 60s and 70s comic "Keep on Truckin.'" What do you and WD have planned for the day?
We will be napping for awhile, then getting ready for the Dallas run. How's things up yonder?
Man it is some kinda hot here in good ol' VA. Gonna be a hundred degrees out before the day is over. That's hot enough for cows to give evaporated milk.
Good Morning sleepy head chumarinos. Coffee is on and I don't know which one is worse,Having to listen to Barry Manilow or the Queen singing ABBA. OH–The Humanity. WD and I will be asleep in the recliner.
