We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.

Consider the daily Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic.

Time for dinner and time with BB. See y'all in the a.m!

Speaking of home, is anyone still here?

I'm here, but I think I'm alone now, doesn't seem to be anyone around now....humming in my head

You get me giggling everytime you post the line from that song! ;) In a meeting today, someone mentioned Tom Jones and the VP started singing "It's not unusual" Grrr. I had had a perfectly good Foo Fighters song going on before that. ;)

I'm trying to play catch-up on the tipping thread. :) "yourcheap" it such an ignorant hoot!

I am out. May check in later as Bride is working tonight. If I get bored with no sports on the tube, I like to surf.

Hmmm, I wonder what the parents are going to want to eat this evening? It's night #1, so that usually means fried fish or fish product.... Yippee.

    June 8, 2011 at 4:16 pm |
    • Evil Grin

Fried fish product? I'm afraid to ask.

Play with their food tonight. Take a piece of whatever fish you're frying, cut it into the shape of a goldfish cracker, and the coat and fry it. Bonus points if you coat it in goldfish cracker crumbs. Even more bonus points if you put them on a blue plate and surround them with things that look vaguely sea-like. :)

I like to mess with people's heads.

      June 8, 2011 at 4:45 pm |
      • Truth@EGrin

Extra, Extra points if you put the little smile on, like the crackers have...

    • JBJingles@SeaBee

You don't sound excited about fish and with your name!? I like to take a white fish like tilapia and wrap in foil pouch sprayed with some Pam, add sliced onions/shallots, some white wine or white wine vinegar, a little pat of butter, salt and pepper. You can even add veggies and think sliced potatoes. Make individual packets, heat grill or oven to 400, cook for 10-12 mins depending on the size of your fish. Sauce comes out like a buerre blanc but with less butter!

      June 8, 2011 at 5:32 pm |
      • Truth@JBJ, SeaBee

        That sounds unbelievable!
I may pre-empt what I had planned for tonight and try that...

        June 8, 2011 at 5:38 pm |
      • SeaBee@JBJ

No, don't get me wrong. I love a piece of well prepared fish, but we're talking fish and chips or oysters and chips or shrimp and chips, ad infinitum. You get the idea.
I had an absolutely marvelous macadamia crusted Mahi Mahi in Santa Barbara not too long ago.

Heading to the pool in an attempt to get away from the horrible weather...and then doing wild rice salad for dinner. In theory will be posting my White Bean Salad tonight for anyone looking for a super simple dinner that is perfect for days when the oven needs to stay off :-D

Yeah, I was posting as Mark when I should be getting work done. yourcheap is the same person as cannibal corpse. Same syntax and posting out of thread. I now leave him in your capable hands, Truth, to really get the liberal stooge going.

Kat and SLT, be honest. You are secret spies, aren't you? Because I swear I brought peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch today. Either that, or you read minds.

Nice to see the Grin back...hope things are going better for you today! :)

      June 8, 2011 at 12:51 pm |
      • Evil Grin

Yes, my day is better today. I was having a problem with a specific person yesterday, which then made the whole day sour. Time heals a lot, so the situation is better today.

But I will say that I wish people understood that selfish actions lead to consequences for everyone around them, not only themselves. And sometimes that means permanent consequences.

        June 8, 2011 at 1:05 pm |

Courtesy of Caveman in response to J. Daniels on the gas vs. charcoal thread favorite line I've seen so far and worth repeating today.

  16. Mare@TWO

They are also called biting midges. Little tiny bugs that you can hardly see – smaller than a flea. Stupid things bite like nothing. Who'da thunk that such a tiny bug could cause a human so much discomfort.

    June 8, 2011 at 11:33 am |
    • The Witty One@Mare

I don't think I have ever been bitten by one of those...

      But I did find this.

BITING MIDGES (punkies, no-see-ums, gnats, sand flies)
Biting midges are very small gnats that may be mistaken for black flies, though they are smaller than the latter. Midges are usually one to three millimeters in length-not much larger than a pinhead. Their biting habits are also similar to those of the black flies. They are likewise distinct from the Phlebotomus sand flies mentioned above. Biting midges are more common than sand
flies. They are distinct from the Phlebotomus sand flies mentioned above. Biting midges are more common than sand flies in moderate climates. These insects are found around water, often in heavily populated areas, where they may be a serious nuisance. Midges may fly in swarms and usually attack at dusk.

Because of their diminutive size, biting midges often go unnoticed until their bites are felt. Pain, usually a mild prickling sensation, occurs immediately. They tend to attack the areas such as the neckline, beltline, shoe tops, and below rolled-up sleeves and upper portions of the body. Reactions to the bites may be immediate or delayed. Some persons have quite bothersome reactions with persistent swellings or sores.

      Treatment for Insects Bite
The area around the bite should be thoroughly cleansed because of the frequent occurrence of secondary infections. This is all that is necessary for most fly bites. Antihistamines by mouth or various topical medications can be used for itching. Cold compresses should be applied for local swelling. Allergic reactions are treated like those that occur with the stinging insects

      Prevention for Insects Bite
Familiarity with the habits and distribution of these insects is helpful. Protective clothing limits the areas they can attack. Clothing should be secured tightly at wrists, ankles, and neck. Hats, gloves, and veils may be beneficial. The liberal and repeated use of insect repellents may be necessary.

Any one know of a good way to prevent No-See-Ums from biting? The mosquitoes aren't so bad, but those damned little buggers are horrible!

    June 8, 2011 at 11:25 am |
    • The Witty One@Mare

      June 8, 2011 at 10:59 am |
      • Mare@RH

That's about it. It's way too early to be this hot in WNY. Average high is only supposed to be in the mid to high 70's.

        June 8, 2011 at 11:05 am |
    • JBJingles@Mare

You could try the cold cucumber soup recipe at foodnetwork by Emeril, I made it Saturday and it was quite good, but I would make it with some greek yogurt next time instead of just sour cream...and cut back on the heat a bit. Not sure if it was the jalepeno or the cayenne that did it but it creeps up on you like a pair of tight undies.

Probably not. She's on oxygen full time now and the boys can make her even more anxious when they get rowdy. She stews and frets about absolutely everything and then she and hubs start bickering. I leave most of my compassion and empathy at the hospital so I don't have much tolerance for it.
