Happy National Doughnut Day, folks! On this fine Friday, we'd love to know what kind of doughnut you're dreaming of, already chowing down on or swiping the minute you get off work. Tell us your favorite doughnut, and let us know where you stand in this great spelling debate! |

Ain't nothing better on earth than a hot glazed donut.
DONUT MAN! (Glendora, CA) Check out the fresh strawberry filled donuts. Next will be fresh peach filled donuts. Tiger tail donuts are over a foot long! Open 24 hours!!!
Chocolate glazed With filling
Doesn't anyone know about the vanilla icing long john? They are really hard to find out west–but very popular in the Midwest. Nothing like it! No cream in the middle; just a long john doughnut with vanilla icing across the entire top of it. YUM!
Where I live in Canada, our local Safeway makes the best glazed doughnuts, easily besting the local Canadian stalwart, Tim Hortons. TH used to make their baked goods on the premises of each store but now they're made en mass in one location, flash frozen and shipped out to be 'finished' in the stores. The quality took a nosedive and has never improved since then. Krispy Kreme are OK but they're not the mind blowing experience that the marketing hype suggests. In the end, it boils down to freshness, from beginning to end. Thanks to a forum like this (and shows like Diners, Driveins and Dives), the small shops that create culinary magic get the attention they deserve, in spite of the marketing power of the major chains.
The best donut is World famous Britt's Donut on the Boardwalk in Carolina Beach North Carolina. Get there early- – the line is long.
Top Donut in Lawrence, Massachusetts – Best Donuts Ever!
The shop owner says the difference in her donuts is the freshness, all made fresh in her shop each day. Last I checked, Krispy Kreme makes them fresh several times a day, right there in the shop.
But what about the Apple Fritter? Should have been in the list and I would not have had to pick Other.
tiger-tails baby. very hard to find.
The best doughnut is a FREE one!
Man, ain't that the truth.
Maple glazed long johns are my favorite, but I do the french cruller frequently, too. No cake doughnuts, though, unless they're the sour cream kind. And Krispy Kreme SUCKS. Ewewewewewewewew.
You've never eaten meat, ever, even as a child? Just curious...
Not as a child. I never wanted any, and my parents didn't force me to have any. As an adult, I tried some, decided i didn't like it, and went back to being a vegetarian. Lacto-ova, btw. Not vegan, and not rabid about others eating meat. Just not my choice.
That's pretty cool. Most parents would tell their kids to shut up and eat what they were given :) What did you not like about meat, if you don't mind me asking?
It's hard to put a finger on what it was that I didn't like about meat. It was just...no. I didn't like it. The texture, the taste, the...it wasn't good. I won't say it was bad because it wasn't. It just wasn't what I wanted. It's not even the digestive issue that some people fuss over; I occasionally get chicken by accident, and it's an ew thing, but I don't get sick. I just don't like it. The vibe was bad, for lack of a better way of explaining the situation.
French cruller. Pretty and sweet on the outside, nothing but air on the inside. I always feel like I can have 3 to everyone else's 1.
Boston Creme all the way!
Why can I only pick one!? I love me some donuts!
While I love crullers, there is one donut only available in Dallas that is out of this world. The Hypnotic from Hypnotic donuts. Hypnotic frosting, crushed peanut butter captain crunch, pretzels , chocolate and caramel drizzle. Try it or one of their other fabulously unique creations and you'll find yourself craving them.
OK, I changed my mind, I want that twisted one up there with the sugar. Yummmmmm
Better keep this poll up all weekend 'cuz it will take The Queen that long to figure out you can only pick one.
:)
Oh, Richard, hush! You know I'm a glazed girl to the core. My idea of hell: a world without fried rings of dough with a sugary glaze.
Plain cake donuts or the long ones with chocolate icing. DONUTS!
Chocolate cake donut with chocolate icing and a large mug of strong coffee.
Where da maple sugar at?
"doughnut" is technically the correct spelling, i believe. "donut" has become an abbreviated version over time. however, if at the end, you get a tasty, sugary dough with frosting on top, you can spell it any way you like.
Glazed chocolate donutzzz!!!
