Pssst! Got a sec to chat?

We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.

Consider the daily Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic.

I cannot believe that there are still people raving over on the Zuckerberg thread.... Just let it die, people! (If things are still lively over there later, I might just have to create a couple of new screen names and start arguing with myself.)
It would be interesting to see how the world would respond to having to slaughtering one's own meat.

Re: "It would be interesting to see how the world would respond to having to slaughtering one's own meat" I thought that's pretty much what the rest of the world does now, when they have meat to slaughter for dinner in the first place.......

(have not visited the thread you are referring to so I am probably missing something.....)

      • SeaBee@MG

Yeah, probably should have clarified that.... I was referring to most first world countries, as our meat has a tendency to come on little styrofoam trays, wrapped in plastic. ;)

You all need to take a lesson from Odie...just add a cold "umbrella" drink and you are all set!

Even my cats don't do that. They are "dying" in the shade, or asleep in the basement.

The stupid one is in the shade, the smart one, in the basement on the cool floor. :)

Mine has been going out and laying (in this position) in the middle of the dead grass (we let it die to get rid of gophers) and falls sound asleep!

Now that I think about it, Odie might be a flasher!!

My smart one will fall asleep on the bed, in front of the fan, or even better, in on the bed in front of the AC. He likes his "creature" comforts.

The stupid one, well, the fan scares her. I think she would rather roast in the sun than come into a cool house with a fan going.

Does anyone have a favorite brand of iced coffee drink? At 90' and 50% humidity (heat index of 103') it's looking like a long hot summer. I can't live with out my coffee, yet I'm trying to save money. I can't really keep spending $6 on a Dunkin Coffee Coolata every day.

    Thanks.

    May 31, 2011 at 3:03 pm |
    • wendy

oh MAN!! i havent had a coffee coollllaaaaaaaaaaaaaata in ages!!! not since i was in Boston a few years back... the closest Dunkin to me is a good hour long drive....

      May 31, 2011 at 3:18 pm |
      • Mare@Wendy

The closest Dunkin is 10 miles in the wrong direction – so it adds 30 minutes to my drive – I'm trying to stop doing that.

        May 31, 2011 at 3:21 pm |
    • AleeD@Mare

Is making it yourself out of the question? McD's 20oz is less than $2 in WCF. If you have ice at work, you keep a a large mug at work and add the ice & fixin's yourself. They have iced coffee for sale as well, but I can't vouch for that. Never tried it.

      May 31, 2011 at 3:19 pm |
      • Mare@Alee

WOW – that's a good price. Out here, it's closer to $4 with tax.

I could make it at home, but then I would have to remember to do it BEFORE I went to bed at night. LOL Maybe tie a coffee colored string around my finger?

        May 31, 2011 at 3:23 pm |
      • AleeD@Mare

Sux. I just knew it would cost more up your way. :(
Do you have a place you can store coffee fixin's at work? I don't know how you like your coffee so I don't know how complicated it would be for you.

Or you could put everything except the coffee together in a thermal mug at home, run thru a drive-thru on your way to work, buy the coffee, then pour it all together at work.

        May 31, 2011 at 3:33 pm |
      • Mare@Alee

I can do it, it's not a problem, it's just the remembering to do it. For some reason, once I get home, the brain shuts off, and I'm lucky I can remember how to get into bed! LOL

It's funny, I like my iced coffee different than hot coffee. Hot, just some vanilla creamer. Iced, I want chocolate and sugar. I don't know why – I'm the exact opposite with tea. Hot, I like sweet tea, Iced, it has to be plain.

        May 31, 2011 at 3:37 pm |
      • AleeD@Mare

Ah, I understand the "shutdown" mode. I usually write a brief word or 2 on a post-it and stick that on my going-to-work stuff.

        May 31, 2011 at 3:44 pm |
    • The Witty One@Mare

I buy Dunkin at the grocery store and make my own iced coffee! Or I use the stuff at work. 1 french vanilla creamer and 2 sugars.....mmmm......

makes me pee a lot though.

      May 31, 2011 at 3:25 pm |
      • Mare@TWO

I pee a lot regardless. I have 3 or 4 travel mugs of coffee a day, plus tea and maybe a soda. AND that's just at work!

      • The Smart Aleck@Mare

LOL! At the end of a typical day, can you thread a sewing machine while it's running?

        May 31, 2011 at 3:47 pm |
      • The Witty One@Mare

That's a good point...I drink like 9-10 cups a day and lots of water as well.

        May 31, 2011 at 3:47 pm |
      • Mare@Smart

LOL – nope, my sewing machine doesn't run anymore. LOL

Usually around 9 or so, I'm ready to fall asleep. I'm a light sleeper, so I take 1 Benadryl to help me sleep (helps with allergies too), and I'm down for the count. I don't think coffee has much of an affect on me anymore.

        May 31, 2011 at 3:52 pm |
    • Truth@Mare

If you are near an Arby's, try a jamocha shake. Good for summer and a cross of flavor between chocolate and coffee. I love the things.

      May 31, 2011 at 3:43 pm |
      • Mare@Truth

I do pass an Arby's on the way to work. Problem, they aren't open in the am. And on the drive home, there is a huge line.

There is a gas-station that just got in a "f'real" machine, I know they have coffee flavors. I might try that.

Cold fried chicken with cheddar cheese, Lays chips, white sandwich bread with holes torn in it from trying to spread cold butter, and deviled eggs with mustard and relish mixed in.

      May 31, 2011 at 2:12 pm |
      • Evil Grin

I was trying to figure out Fried Chicken and cheddar cheese, especially if cold – until I realized it was a sandwich.

        May 31, 2011 at 2:16 pm |
      • Mare@EG

        Nope – not a sandwich.

Bone in fried chicken (fried mid west style), sliced cheese on the side, and sandwich bread – cause that's what my grandfather liked, and it's been tradition. You know, meat/potato/bread at every meal.

        May 31, 2011 at 2:20 pm |
      • Evil Grin

Oh. Huh. I'll have to try that sometime. I do something similar with pepperoni or summer sausage, cheese, fruit and home baked bread. Makes for a simple, hearty meal.

        May 31, 2011 at 3:07 pm |
      • Mare@EG

        It's my mid-western grandmother's version of a Ploughman's lunch.

        May 31, 2011 at 3:10 pm |
      • Evil Grin

I had to look that up, but it does look very similar.

        May 31, 2011 at 3:13 pm |
      • Mare@EG

My grandmother grew up on a farm in KS, and this is the lunch my great grandmother would send out with my great grandfather and the boys when they were working the fields. Left over fried chicken from the day before, a fresh loaf of bread, cheese, and what ever else she had on hand. It evolved to include our favorites of Deviled eggs (they don't travel in a pail too well.)

        May 31, 2011 at 3:19 pm |
      • Evil Grin

That makes sense. It would be a hearty enough meal to satisfy them and gear them up for the rest of the work they had to get done.

        May 31, 2011 at 3:30 pm |
      • Mare@EG

Yup, but now it's a family picnic staple. Takes more planning than it did back then. LOL

    • Truth@Lunchtime poll

We thankfully don't get humidity out here, but I find I will do anything that does not require cooking, so mark me as salad. Best salad imho is iceberg in a large bowl with oregano, bacon bits, croutons and Gerard's Champagne Vinaigrette dressing.

      May 31, 2011 at 2:15 pm |
    • JBJingles@Lunchtime Poll

No humidity here either, but used to live in FL, so go to for hooomid weather for me is salad with cold chicken, nothing too warm or it heats you up from the inside out!

      • Mare@EG

You just haven't tried good hummus then.

I love roasted tomato hummus and celery for lunch. I've never had any luck making my own, but luckily, I live right by a little Greek import store, and they have the best stuff there.

spicy red pepper hummus with toasted pita bread along with a large helping of kalamata olives... YUM!

You don't get experience points for eating hummus.... :)

        May 31, 2011 at 3:26 pm |
      • Evil Grin

@Alee, I think it's actually the chickpeas themselves, though I can eat whole chickpeas in other things with no problems. But I've had Baba ghanoush, which when I had it, was prepared in just the same way as hummus (at least consistancy-wise), and I really enjoyed that.

It may be a combination of the oil an chickpea, but I'm not 100% certain. I just know I usually try it when it's around, but I've yet to like it.

Interesting. And you couldn't pay me to eat anything with eggplant. Just curious. It's heartening to know that you keep trying tho'.

      • JainaJade@TWO

Nothing to do with weather, just horrible. We went from Bles Park to Elizabeth Waterfront and the first problem was finding the trail! There are no blazes at the start and in certain areas there are so many goat trails that it's very hard to tell which is the "real" trail. It also shares a number of bridges with the golf course, and the people there didn't seem very happy to see us. Also the trail is not well maintained at all, pictures showed a nice App Trail style path, more like a once skinny person trail with high (HIGH) grass on either side. The pups walked behind us because the grass was hitting them in the face :-( Nice views but no different than Balls Bluff or Great Falls which are v. well maintained!

@Alee, That's the way the Evil Parental units raised me. Try and try again. My tastes may change one day and I may like it. I want to like it, so one day that may happen.

That sucks. I used to go to great falls all the time and go climbing. Not so much any more since my climbing buddy moved out west. I need to get back over there to do some hiking. Maybe this weekend!

No humidity here either, fortunately, but grew up in Pittsburgh PA, with plenty of heat and humidity. I remember alot of chipped ham sandwiches and potato salad or macaroni salad chased with gallons of iced tea back in the day, been gone from the East 20 years now.

      May 31, 2011 at 2:27 pm |
      • Mare@MTM

Please tell me it was real iced tea, and not that "sweet tea" sugar water stuff. You must live up to your NE roots. :)

      • wendy

mmmmmmmmmmmm sun tea via the big jar that sits outside on the stoop all morning!! no sugar added... just lotsa ice and some lemon slices...

        May 31, 2011 at 2:38 pm |
      • MT Miner

Wendy hit it, every morning the giant jug went outside, it must have been a 3 gallon sun tea pot. Everyone added whatever they liked after the fact. to this day, i still drink mine plain, short of extra ice.

        May 31, 2011 at 2:41 pm |
      • Mare@Wendy

I was never a fan of sun tea. Never strong enough. We used to brew 1 gal of tea every day. 10 tea bags in 2 qts of water, steeped for 10 minutes. Then the tea, and bags got poured over a pitcher of ice, and popped into the fridge. No sugar, no lemon, just pure strong tea. YUM

        May 31, 2011 at 2:43 pm |
      • wendy

what?? our sun tea was always strong... but maybe that's cuz we used about 8 tea bags per gallon of water... HAH!! :) i concur, strong tea is the best!! the swill they serve today in restaurants is a far cry from the good stuff i grew up with... mmmmmmmm. i'm craving tea now!!! :)

        May 31, 2011 at 2:46 pm |
      • Mare@Wendy

You mean the colored water that they try to pass off as tea? THEN they have the gall to charge me for water! LOL

We have free coffee and tea here at work, so every afternoon, I get a cup of tea (2 bags please), and fill my travel mug with ice. After 5 or 10 minutes, I dump the tea over the ice, and I'm in heaven.

        May 31, 2011 at 2:54 pm |

YUMM, I grew up on sun tea and still drink it, plain, no sugar cuz I'm sweet enuf! I've been experimenting with different teas and made some Sat., a mix of reg Lipton and a pomegranite white tea, very good with a squeeze of fresh lemon!

My stomach is rather quirky, if I eat something hot on a hot day I tend to get rather...ill. I have been known to eat "normal" meals in front of a fan in order to avoid possible problems. The boy has also learned that if we are driving home from dinner and I say AC NOW that means crank the AC and drop the windows while scanning the horizon for possible stops.

Have any of you while traveling or out at a nice restuarant had something so amazing that you asked for (and received) the recipe?? I was trying to figure out a way we might be able to share these besides retyping them...mine are hard copy.
    1. Walt Disney's Grand Floridian Hotel – I had a fish dinner about 20 yrs ago with the most amazing remoulade on it! I asked for the recipe and they mailed it to me. Haven't had tarter sauce since...
    2. Most recent cruise I went to a cooking demo on board and they made a green peppercorn sauce with flamenon, amazing and I asked for recipe which was sent to my staterroom the next day.
    3. Went to the Coeur d'Alene Resort and hubs had the most amazing seafood risotto, wish I had asked for the recipe...

    May 31, 2011 at 1:12 pm |
    • Evil Grin

I've asked only a couple of times, but I've never had someone actually give me the recipe. Although many times I've had them bring out a big dish of the sauce to go. Sometimes the evil roommate can recreate the dishes well enough that I'm satisfied.

No, I haven't. I live in Western NY, and we went out there to get married, and haven't been back since. We are thinking about going back. Need to take our honeymoon. :)

PLUS, when we were there last time, our camera died just as we got up to Devil's Bridge, and we need to go back to get some pics :)

Sorry – That reply was for an email I was sending – don't know why I posted it here – damned copy paste. I think my friend got the email I was posting to you. LOL

It gets very confusing having 2 similar conversations going on in 2 different locations. I guess I need more coffee.

ANYWAY... No I haven't. I live out in Wayne County (Marion) and only work out here. Most places aren't open for lunch, or if they are, it's over-run by tourists now.

For future reference, Evil Overlords hate summer. This is why our fortresses tend to be in the arctic or outer space. Well, sometimes in a volcano, but that's just because it's cool – and we make sure we have VERY good air conditioning.

I suspect that idea is somewhat less appealing to me than you, my dear. But I'd be happy to order them over your way.

And the heat makes those hunky slaves "glisten" nicely. :)

Mare: yes, yes it does. ~_~

EG, thank you. I'd love to see what the minions can come up with. Of course your's could be ordered from the ladies' department if that's what you prefer. They have nice muscular ones with great stamina – for fan waving.

        May 31, 2011 at 1:19 pm |

They can only help so much with cooling things down. AC is needed after a point.

        May 31, 2011 at 1:24 pm |

Alee, I'll send Minion #3 your way. I'm sure she could help you pick out fanners far better than I.

Here ya go! I haven't had a Twinkie in years either, just so happened they had 10 boxes at the counter when I got fuel at the truck stop this morning, so I grabbed one box.

    • AleeD@wendy & MT Miner

See, when you said twinkie, my mind went to a completely different place. ~_~

I'm just trying to picture a box of twinkies that you would pick up at a truck stop. That's a really BIG box .... but then they ARE twinkies.

good morning all! weekend was full of fun stuff. and some not quite so fun stuff... drove to eureka springs sunday...took my girl with me and boy did that dog have fun on the curves! she actually looked disappointed when we got to our destination, and didnt perk back up till we went thru the mountain curves the other way! our journey took us on the outskirts of Joplin...a lot of debris on the side of the hiways...my work is putting together a group of volunteers to go down in a couple of weeks to help with clean up – i was the second to sign up. i'll keep you posted...

Morning, my friend! How's the sunburn coming along?

      May 31, 2011 at 10:53 am |
      • SeaBee from Home Port @ QoE

Morning, your Majesty, the burn is much better. I, thankfully, have the skin tone that turns a burn into a tan within a couple of days. Still a painful process, though. I think I will take the slow track to getting a tan, in the future.

        May 31, 2011 at 11:03 am |
      • Queen of Everything from the Castle@SeaBee

I have the kind of skin that just burns. It's a bummer.

Wow. I usually don't eat anything during the day, but I'm insanely hungry today. How early do you think is too early to take a lunch break?

    May 31, 2011 at 10:34 am |

Around here it is generally thought to be 1100am.

      May 31, 2011 at 10:40 am |

Ugh, That's still fifteen minutes away. Anyway, I'll probably wait until 11:30 or so. I got here early enough to get a shady parking spot, and I want to go to lunch early enough that someone doesn't come back before me and jack it. I abhor when people do that.

        May 31, 2011 at 10:50 am |

Morning! Listening to it now and it sounds good to me. My knowledge of videogames is from the time you put in a quarter and played DonkeyKong and Ms Pacman. Is BlazBlue the video game or who made the music for a video game?

    May 31, 2011 at 10:16 am |
    • DJChilllyPhil, Jukebox King & Cold Stone God@Jerv

BlazBlue is the actual game that the track came from. It's actually one of the songs that plays during the credits when you reach the end of it.

      May 31, 2011 at 10:20 am |

Nope :( But I my buddy just had a kid and wanted to get rid of his glock so I picked that up from him. Now I am the proud owner of two glocks, a nine and a 357. I am going to take them both to the range this weekend to give them some exercise.

      May 31, 2011 at 10:06 am |
  26. The Witty One

Morning everyone! Looks like a good weekend was had by all.

I want to share a wonderful experience I had this weekend. I was at my friends back home playing COD black ops and got paired up with some militant vegan that was spewing nonsense about various topics. He started with berating people for eating meat and it all went downhill from there. By the end of the match, he was talking about how the government is using fluoride to control our mind and that they are all Nazis.

So we are looking at the guys profile after the match and we notice a link to his Facebook page. So we head on over to the Facebook and check him out. Turns out he posted his phone number for everyone to see. Wrong move buddy.

So starts the prank calling :) We have already called him and told him to follow the white rabbit, left a 3 minute message trying to sell him instant water as well as various other messages about Nazi mind control.

    I will have my revenge!

    May 31, 2011 at 9:57 am |
    • Jerv@2

LMAO! That is hilarious! I don't do the Facebook thing. Is it common practice to list your phone number?

      May 31, 2011 at 9:59 am |
      • The Witty One@Jerv

Not really. I certainly don't. I think there is probably a way to do it where only your friends can see it though.

        May 31, 2011 at 10:02 am |
      • Mildred

No it's not... but the option is there. Only idiots tend to use it.

        May 31, 2011 at 10:16 am |
      • Jerv@Mil&2

Well that settles it, vegan=idiot, hence why he posted his phone number. It will be interesting to see how long before the vegan takes down his phone number. LOL!

        May 31, 2011 at 10:18 am |
      • The Witty One@Jerv

He is going to need to change his number cause I already have it stored in my phone :)

      • Jerv@2

LMAO! Good man. I gotta go get some work done. Later on dude.

        May 31, 2011 at 10:44 am |
    • Sir Biddle@The Wittiest Prankster

I like the way you think.

Oh and by the way, we shelved the fluoride project years ago. You'd be amazed at what we can do now. Actually, it would scare the $%@& out of you.

      May 31, 2011 at 10:31 am |
      • The Witty One@Sir Biddle the Great

They way I figure it, the government does a lot of stuff that is secret for a reason. Most of it is probably pretty boring.

I had fluoride in my drinking water as a kid. The only effect that I noticed was my lack of cavities.

Morning, chums! The Queen is taking a mental health day today. Thing 1 and I are dining on cinnamon pecan pancakes this morning while Thing 2 enjoys a cinnamon pancake (pecans are a bit much for him) with a schmear of applesauce on top.

    May 31, 2011 at 9:23 am |
    • Jerv@Q

Oh good for you. My mental health day was yesterday. Surprisingly, when I opened the email this morning, only 16 emails. Those pancakes sound so good.

      May 31, 2011 at 9:25 am |
      • Queen of Everything from the Castle@Jerv

Yep, they're pretty good. I planned on getting some yardwork done today but it's already in the 80s and humid heading for a high of 92. We've apparently decided to skip spring this year.

        May 31, 2011 at 9:36 am |
      • Truth@Queen, Jerv

90s expected in Denver this week as well. Thankfully, no humidity, but it is still hot. Much as I hate to agree with AlGore on ANYTHING, I do think we humans have jacked up the global climate.

        May 31, 2011 at 9:44 am |
      • Jerv@Q

Oh, yeah. Same here, gonna get up to probably a hundred. Not even July yet. I am glad, however, that winter is over.

I'm in the "need a vacation from my vacation" mode right now. It was so wonderful that I'm more exhausted then before I left!

      May 31, 2011 at 9:59 am |
  29. Mildred

I didn't put it on... I was part of a three-lady-show that put on a tea at the convention. It was in Baltimore, MD.

    May 31, 2011 at 9:06 am |
    • Mildred

Ugh... that should have been @EG.

It was a fantastic time, but now I'm kinda paying for it with a migraine, exhaustion, and a lack of mental processing.

      May 31, 2011 at 9:07 am |
    • Evil Grin

Sounds interesting – even with the migraine and exhaustion. I asked because I've known people who have started small anime and comic book conventions. One which became large for a few years. It's neat when the conventions are just getting started. But participating in any way is fun.

      • Mildred

I know... This is the year that I really felt a part of things and not "just a fan."

Not that being a fan isn't a great thing in and of itself... but now I feel more of a part of a fantastic group of creative and wacky people (Podcasters).

        May 31, 2011 at 9:14 am |
      • Mildred

I'm also going to be starting an interview/discussion podcast of my own about the role of food in fiction. Tentative title "Books and Picnic Baskets." I was carrying around a picnic basket as a visual branding technique to help things along in the future.

        May 31, 2011 at 9:20 am |

        May 31, 2011 at 11:23 am |
  30. Mildred

    Good morning all!

I'm back from my convention. The tea was a HUGE success and exceeded our expectations. We thought we'd have maybe 10-15 people during the two hour stretch... and had 20+ waiting for us to get set up. We even had a famous guest (at least in terms of the SF/Fantasy writers that were there), in the form of Elizabeth Moon. She told us that she hoped we would do it again next year! We got that feedback from a lot of people. We would have had one of the convention's Guests of Honor as well (mainly because Philippa Ballentine is one of our friends), but she had her own book launch tea to prep for (next year, we're telling the convention not to schedule us against each other).

In other news, a friend of mine proposed to his girlfriend at the con! He's a writer who had a live cast show of an audio drama (which I was part of the cast and had provided Russian translations and other assistance with the script). Usually, he and the cast do the audio drama and then opens the floor for questions. This time, however, he had a surprise and proposed to his lady with his grandmother's ring (which wasn't sized before this and fits perfectly)!

    May 31, 2011 at 8:52 am |
    • Evil Grin

You put on a sci-fi convention? Where was it?

      May 31, 2011 at 8:54 am |
    • Jerv@Mil

Pretty cool. Looks like she has been published quite a bit. (I googled her.)

      May 31, 2011 at 9:18 am |
      • Mildred

Yeah... I didn't know her work all that well, but one of my fellow co-hostesses almost had a heart attack when I told her that Elizabeth was coming to the tea.

        May 31, 2011 at 9:22 am |
  31. RichardHead@AleeD

You must realize that you are dealing with stoooooopid Vegans who have little brain capacity to think for themselves and come up with a worthwhile name without the help of Bing or Google. :))) This is in regards to SS!!

    May 31, 2011 at 8:52 am |

Morning all. Twinkies and night shift miner coffee for anyone needing a heavy duty fix to get through the day.

    May 31, 2011 at 8:49 am |
    • AleeD@MT Miner

LOL Do tell. What is "night shift miner coffee"? Sounds interesting ... and useful right now. :-D

      May 31, 2011 at 8:52 am |
      • MT Miner

Night shift miner coffee = add 3 times the normal amount of coffee grounds to pot, brew at beginning of shift(12 hour shift) let boil down all night. By 6:00 am, it is a heavy caffiene filled liquid about the consistency of whole milk. One cup can leave a 200 lb man with the shakes for an hour.

        May 31, 2011 at 9:01 am |
      • AleeD@MT Miner

Sound like my kind of sludge. :D Do you know how to start an IV?

        May 31, 2011 at 9:04 am |
      • MT Miner

Never tried to start an IV, but I am good with everything from 30cc syringe of penicilan for my horses down to the little annual vacinations for the horses and dogs, cant be much more difficult than that!

Hello chums. And I thought I was getting here early today.. Hah.

I hope last week everyone was well, and Truth made his journey safely.

I don't know about you guys, but I am WIPED. I mean there isn't a word to describe my tiredness. And I've a 10 hour day ahead of me. So the Minions will be making some cinnamon rolls with lots of frosting, and whopper smoothies. (Gigantic smoothies. Not smoothies made of burgers.) I don't know about you, but I need the sugar rush.

    May 31, 2011 at 8:34 am |

Good Morning Bro...How did the camping trip go?

      May 31, 2011 at 8:34 am |
    • Sir Biddle@RichHead

Camping went well. We only did one night just to test the waters. Went to a rustic cabin with no runing water or electricity with a small group. Good time overall but I am finding little poison ivy spots on me here and there. There were four dogs on the trip, so I know they ran through it and then brushed up against me. Grilled salmon last night and laughed at you as I put it on the grill. RH would have no of this foul stuff on his grill.

Sorry about the e-mail spam last week, I think I have the problem fixed thanks to Truth's advice.

      You have a good weekend?

      May 31, 2011 at 8:49 am |
      • RichardHead@SirB

WD and I had a Great Weekend,Thanks. Hopefully Lil'Biddle stayed away from the Ivy. You are most correct about the stinky fish, glad I could make ya laugh.

Good morning all! Had a great memorial day weekend with lots of food and hiking. I stopped counting how many bug bites I have...
Was able to make the Top Chef Bravo Tour on Saturday which was pretty cool :-D

    May 31, 2011 at 8:15 am |
    • Sir Biddle@JJ

What did you think of Eastern Market on Saturday? Pretty cool neighborhood, egh?

      May 31, 2011 at 8:29 am |
      • JainaJade@SirB

I had been in the neighborhood before but this was my first time exploring the market since the fire. It was pretty amazing however the crowds were INSANE! I don't remember being that like that pre-fire so not sure if that is the new norm or if that was because of the Top Chef tour. We wound up walking back to GSE to grab lunch instead of eating there because there was no place to sit :-(

        May 31, 2011 at 8:35 am |
      • Sir Biddle@JJ

It can be busy, but I am sure the holiday weekend and the Top Chef aspect made it even busier than normal. Let me know next time you are there as its literally a few blocks from my house and I am usually out and about with Lil Biddle.

        May 31, 2011 at 8:51 am |
      • JainaJade@SirB

I'll be back in the area on the 11th, that's my next day at the museum. I will probably be at GSE around 1ish to get my Milkshake before heading to the Eastern Market. I want to get some fresh local fish for my next Nigella Blog challenge :-D

        May 31, 2011 at 9:11 am |

WCF had very breezy weather over the holiday weekend. That made it even more humbling to see SO many American flags in people's yards, waving in salute to all the Veterans who have given their lives for our freedoms.

To the families of those who have passed, to all who have served and to all whom are serving, Thank You.

Happy Tuesday Everyone! Thanks for the koffee Jerv!

Did you do have any excitement this weekend? Or was it Chill 'n' Grill?

Definitely chill and grill. I was going to work yesterday but decided to take off instead and relax. How about you?

Worked like dogs around the casa. Cleaned out the DVR a bit. Tried a new restaurant, The Hanger, and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Split a chocolate torte for dessert. Yum!

The Hanger, sounds interesting. What do they generally serve?

        Check it out.

        There's also a breakfast menu.

It's definitely not your typical Chili's-style airport food. It's much better. I would recommend this to anyone who appreciates good food.

Good Morning Lil' Buddy. Thanks for the coffee and WD is trying to lick off the donut glaze from her nose. She's a silly girl. You missed all the FUN as the Stoooooooopid Vegans came out to play over the weekend. I want to Thank Kat for giving us a free pass on some comments and not being heavy handed on the moderating button. Lots of laughs were had by all, except Little Johnny, who is still waiting to pooh-pooh!

Oh, I always miss the fun jerking on those evil vegan chains. Which article were they on? Hopefully your were able to get some Naked Grillin' in before Memorial Day?

Which thread weren't they on is the question. It started with the hamburger thread, then they started again on the potato salad thread, which is where poor Little Johnny is jumping up and down on, and they have no sense of humor when trying to grow lettuce. Anyway,Grilled all weekend and WD and I had steaks yesterday. Life is good.

LOL! Little Johnny was too funny! Just read it. Yeah, life is good and maybe the vegans will come out and play today as well.
