Pssst! Got a sec to chat?

We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.

Consider the daily Coffee klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic.

Soooo...we're playing around with the wallpaper a bit here. Thoughts? Feelings? Suggestions? Does it make you feel funny in your tummy? We're here for you. Please let us know what you think.

    March 22, 2011 at 3:44 pm |

      March 22, 2011 at 3:57 pm |
    • The Witty One@2truths1lie

      So here's the deal...

I have been to jail....had to bail out a friend once.
It was really only TWO felonies! (Ran over a mailbox in my car and clipped some stupid pedestrian tourist with my sideview mirror turning a corner....they really ran into me)
My friends do call me Llama....don't ask.

Ok, so I am making plans for next month when my bride will go to her homeland. She is going for five weeks, and I will join her for two of those. This leaves me with three or so weeks of being a bachelor. So I went onto Amazon today, and ordered up "Monster's Ball", and some James Bond to watch in her absence.

So my question is, what movies/activities do you enjoy when you have your home to yourselves?
My other fav solitude films are "The Last Samurai", "The Shawshank Redemption", "Babel" and "Crash"...

Ironic that you bring this up today! I'll be on my own tonite while BB's at a club meeting. Usually I try to catch up on my horror & vampire flicks, but our local Blockbuster is closing and I haven't figured out what alternative source we're going to use for movies. So I'll break out my "Charmed" DVD's and get my sister-witch fix instead.

Alone time also involves a savory snackfest. At the healthfood grocery store at lunch today, I found some blue cheese/cheddar-flavored "Cheetos" type snacks and some not-Doritos nacho cheese-flavored corn chips. YUM!

As far as movies/shows – I'm not usually one for chick flicks, and hubby isn't at all. But every once in a while I'll watch them when he's not around.

I take advantage of the silence and tend to do alot of reading. Staring out at the mountains over coffee or a scotch and just thinking/mind wandering is another that can only be done in slience alone effectively. I also eat all the foods the bride doesn't like that I rarely get otherwise.

      March 22, 2011 at 2:45 pm |
    • wendy

definitely reading...if it's nice out i break out the hammock, let the dogs run, and i dig into a book. for me movies are for bad weather...and then it's Dirty Dancing, Roadhouse, Twister, Boondock Saints... ahhhh testosterone.

hello all. i got some grave news last nite. my childhood friend – i've known her since i was 4 – passed away yesterday morning. her mom called me last nite. it was an accidental overdose. such a needless travesty. i am just so totally blown away by how this kind of thing happens so frequently. my heart aches for her and her family...what pain she must have been in to try to kill it using drugs...i just spoke to her last week and she was so happy. she was looking forward in her life...God must have had a job for her. she is a donor...and she's going to be able to donate tissue, bones, help over 100 people. she had the biggest heart of all that i know, and she's still giving of herself even in death. i dont mean to bring you all down today – but if you know anyone that is self-medicating please be sure to let them know that they are loved. she knew...i KNOW she knew she was loved...

I'm so sorry Wendy. That has almost happened to me because I weigh 79 lbs. Everything affects me more. Anesthesia has to be carefully administered. When I had an ovary removed they just gave me gas and Vallium. Novacain lasts for days. God rest your friend's soul and trust that she is at peace. Like we all want to be.

Good Mid-morning chums. The new minions have begun their cooking training, and Minion #3 decided to make granola. Loads of it. So here is some granola trail mix, granola bars with chocolate chips and almonds, and ice cream cones dipped in – you guessed it – granola. PLEASE eat this stuff.

Kat and SLT – I like that you're experimenting with the wallpaper. It would be nice to have a different scene each day, even if they get recycled sometimes.

    March 22, 2011 at 11:04 am |
    • MicheleG

Hey! I thought you had one TWO minions.......where'd the third one come from? Where do you get your minions?
Where do you get them? Tell us a story!

      March 22, 2011 at 11:10 am |
      • MicheleG

Do they have names? My three have names.....

        March 22, 2011 at 11:10 am |
      • Evil Grin

Minion the original and Minion #2 went on a recruiting mission while I was sick, unofficially to avoid me. Knowing they would face my extreme wrath over the manner, they managed to find two new recruits who are working out quite well so far. Minion #3 is female, which makes her the first, and changes things up a bit. But so far she has fit in well with the other 3. Minion #4 is a quiet one – a very good quality in a minion – but has proven far easier to break and train than anyone save Minion the original.

As I am recruiting minions, not adopting or buying... or enslaving... they, of course, keep their own names or choose new ones at their preference. However they are officially assigned a designation which they must agree to answer to. My designation for now are simple numbers. As my horde grows, they will be split into classes and skill levels and assigned new designations.

        March 22, 2011 at 11:39 am |
      • MicheleGSpock

Fascinating. More research is required, however.

        March 22, 2011 at 12:06 pm |
      • Evil Grin

It's a very methodical process when you are trying to create a loyal minion horde to serve you as you take over the world. Has to be done just right. Not necessary in cases where, perhaps, you just need help getting things done or want someone to boss around. That's why there are different types, after all.

        March 22, 2011 at 12:43 pm |
      • Truth@EGrin, MicheleG

      • Evil Grin

Cute. Some day I really will have to watch that movie.

My process is somewhat more... er... intense, with considerably less giggling. Although hiring a trainer... hmmm...

Yeah, she wasn't too hard on the eyes, was she? I want to look like her when I grow up.

Morning all. I need some assistance from the collective. I have a team lunch in an hour and I need to come up with 2 true things about me (don't need help with that part) and one lie(this is where I need help).

So the question is, if you could tell one lie about yourself, what would it be?

    March 22, 2011 at 10:56 am |
    • Truth@TWO

      I've done this...

      – I was married to the same woman twice, but we have never been divorced

      – I ran the NY Marathon

      – I once gave a speech at the United Nations

Hahah yeah I guess you can say that! I paint usually with acrylics (dry quicker, helps my ADD) but I dabble in other stuff like ceramics, pen&ink, and watercolors... whatever tickles my fancy at the moment.

Alright, I've done this before... Let's think for a bit here...

-I met Alex Rodriguez of Yankees baseball fame
-I've climbed to the top of the Vatican
      -I am left-handed

        I like this game!! Let's see...hmmm..
        – I have two brothers
        – I am a published author
        – I once flashed a room full of guys for potato chips

      – My daughter danced in a Walt Disney World christmas parade down Main Street.
      – I won a all expense caribbean cruise!
      – I fell alseep behind the wheel, struck 5 trees head on and ended up breaking both ankles when I was 19. :(

.......... the 2nd was unfortunately a huge fib. A girl can dream, can't she?

      – I have a picture of myself and two inmates in OPP jumpsuits during a spring break in N'Awlins
      – I have yelled "Help! I have a fire in my pants!" at a group of firemen playing shirts vs. skins at the firehouse
      – I believe if I go into the ocean I will be eaten by a shark.

      March 22, 2011 at 1:50 pm |

So I guess you are not really afraid of sharks, then, huh?

        March 22, 2011 at 1:52 pm |
      • Queen of Everything@Truth

Actually, it's #1. I did try to get my picture taken with them but apparently OPP police do not allow pictures to be taken of inmates. I am completely convinced that I will be eaten by a shark. Not just a nibble on the leg but a nothing left but a pool of blood and a piece of ripped bathing suit style attack.

It's pork souvlaki and chickpea salad with grilled pita bread and tsaziki sauce tonight. Been marinating the pork since last night. Dear husband will grill. He's the best. We have one of those infra red gas grills along with a Big Green Egg. The infra red gets up to 10,000 BTUs. I wok on it and can get the same results as good Chinese restaurants do. It will cook a fantastic steak in about 8 minutes but is still gentle enough to grill trout.

Well, if that is your thing, then go and have a GREAT time and drive home safely.

That said, I think the meat dress thing was an attempt to garner attention. Madonna did that schtick for years and made a fortune off of it. Let's hope she has a good financial planner.

No pending executions to the best of my knowledge. Tomorrow is the Lady GaGa concert for which I hold tickets, aka the Monster Ball Tour. Should be quite the experience. I shall try to find a suitable picture to post for you all.

        March 22, 2011 at 10:09 am |
      • Truth@SeaBee

Ok, now I got it. I would not know lady gaga if I fell over her, so I had no clue about the name of the tour. I was thinking of the 2002 Halle Berry film, about the protocols leading up to an execution, which is referred to as a "Monster's Ball"...

Indy is currently besieged with firefighters in town for the Fire Department Instructors Conference. 30,000 firefighters have descended on my fair city from around the world for the entire week. I'm going to do my best to keep my hands to myself but really, what's the fun in that?

    March 22, 2011 at 9:05 am |
    • Truth@Queen

I have a great firefighter story...I used to manage a staff of six women, and we had to choose a teambuilding exercise one quarter...They decided it would be fun to learn CPR and get certified since the Red Cross uses firefighters to teach it in Denver. They were all giddy about it, planning on wways to flirt, what to wear, etc. Turns out that on the day of the class, they all showed up all dolled up and the instructor turned out to be a RETIRED firefighter, who looked and acted a lot like Wilford Brimley. I never let them forget that one...

      March 22, 2011 at 9:14 am |
      • Queen of Everything@Truth

I have volunteered to be the CPR manikin for a certain ER physician here on multiple occasions.

LOL and ditto...Everytime I give blood, I wind up getting some hot babe who starts chatting me up (I have a really rare blood type, AND I am CMV negative, so they LOVE seeing me donate.

        March 22, 2011 at 9:28 am |
      • Queen of Everything@Truth

You CMV negatives are a hot commodity. I've been exposed to it so many times I'm probably crawling with it.

        March 22, 2011 at 9:42 am |

I think it means Cytomegavirus or something...It means that my blood is especially suited for donations to babies. The hematologists like to tell me how special it is, and that I should donate faithfully. When I was single, I used to use this leverage to the fullest extent possible...;)

Good morning, my pretties! Kat and Sarah- Love the wallpaper! Maybe you could mix it up a bit with goofy pictures from the someone from CNN in a chicken suit in the subway. Or you could post a pic that best describes your mood that morning. For example, I have picture of a howling spider monkey that I post outside my cube when it is best not to disturb me.

    March 22, 2011 at 9:02 am |

MHC = Mile High City, also known as Denver. I am originally from NY though...

I knew you were in Denver, but it's been so long since I heard references to Mile High Stadium that it didn't occur to me. Thanks for the info.

        March 22, 2011 at 9:32 am |
      • Truth@AleeD

It is kind of funny...The new stadium is called Invesco Field at Mile High, but locals still just call it Mile High. There was a major brewhaha out here when it was being named. People claimed they would boycott The Broncos, etc. But the place still sells out for every hoe game, even last season, which was horrible.
