Pssst! Got a sec to chat? We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here. Consider the daily Coffee klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic. |

I consider it a good thing in this economy to be working too much vs not at all, there is a bright side to everything
Wow went from giggling glee to a very very rough day. Goody.
i'm still here as well... working late... oh the joy...
i will have to see about getting a gmail account set up. no can do here at work, but i plan to visit the library this weekend. :)
You must have a mean IT person, I restrict alot of things that eat up bandwidth, but gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail, those are all pretty reasonable.
Thought i was going home, but alas being on call, I made it 10 miles before they called me back, looks like an all nighter.......
I am home....I was gone with those first snow flakes. I did the beltway with all the idiots last winter and that was a lesson I won't soon forget.
Stay warm and careful on the roads...I'm outa here. cya all tomorrow.
Hello? Anyone still out there?? It's me...snowbound (wow elem. school flashback)
I am still watching the white stuff fall and I have to say the weather guy was/is VERY off about how much we are suppose to get.
Well, signing off for sure now. Will see you tomorrow.
Regards!
Nite, I am gone as well
Have fun and give us a report in the am!
I am out...Meeting my wife who is shopping downtown, then an early dinner and a walk to the Pepsi Center. See you tomorrow all!
Good night and have fun!
Hope your evening is simply fabulous! Hugs to you both!
I just saw that you and JDizz had a groupie over on the Taco Bell chat! Too funny, and all we have over he is our ever loathed Vapor...
Yep,Jdizz and I are chick magnets. I carry corn kernels in my pocket just for that reason.
Wow. That's pretty bad...
ok, so i can see the blog.. but pls help the uneducated. how the heck do you post?!
Click on Pacific Islands and I think you'll see the comment thingie.
yeah, i got that. it wants me to select a profile without telling me how to create one. grrrr...
Sorry, I am baffled. Have no clue about what the deal is. Figured that as long as you can drop your cursor into the comment box you'd be good to go. Apologies!
Rats, again!
If its asking you to "comment as" I'd ignore it and let it default to whatever it wants....otherwise I'm stuck.
If you have a gmail account, pick google and use that email address(from teh other IT person around here.....)
if you don't have a gmail account you can comment Anon but only if the blog allows anon comments. You can also use wordpress IDs or an Open ID. If you don't have gmail it's free to sign up, just go to gmail.com.
My work computer blocks blog sites...so no visits from me. :(
Rats! Will look for you whenever!
Stupid UPS... grumble grumble.... I just want my frackin new suit jacket already!
The kevlar one tested out by my good friend MachineGUN Kelly?
Alas, no, a big kid jacket for my very boring big kid suit for work.
I shall be one of the first to visit your BLOG.
http://michelesg.blogspot.com/

Local radio traffic report. " There are to many incidents to mention. If you are on the road then you are in bumper to bumper traffic."
Hence my intense loathing for large cities. Traffic. Barf.
so which "fun" road are you bonding with this fine snowy evening?
i hit the road with the first snow flake :-)
I'll never think of the "F" word the same again after the hater article....
A literary masterpiece using the words Frog-Humping menus and foodie in the same paragraph.. He's good.
to quote tazers quoted quote..."get weak little culinary boners over year-dead trends, focused-grouped Frog-humping menus"
The first 5 words, it was real LOL. Then the true twisted mind kicked in and I pictured body shots, whipped cream, and strawberrys. Haven't figured out what to make for dinner tonight anyhow, maybe it's wife buffet night, i dunno....
Agree. My boyfriend once invited me to have some chocolate, as a treat on him. ON him.......
I will have to remember that "treat on me" line
"I'm dreaming of a desert island, just like the ones I used to know. Where the white sands glisten, and people listen to hear ice clinking in mohitos."
Tonga.....have some real connection there. Nukuʻalofa, Vava'u.
I'll do any island at this point. I am looking out my window and all I see is white stuff falling from the sky. White stuff that was suppose to hit maybe 3inches...I think we have closer to 6 and the stuff is still coming down!
Get your passport current and I'll tell you when the property is ready for guests. Not yet. There's some refurbishment coming up.
passport is always current :-) more than willing to paint, sand, install flooring, whatever it takes....altho the airports are apparently closed so I think I am stuck for now
time to start baking!
Just created a little blog wherein those who post here may contact me directly (a modest experiment). If trolls mess it up I'll simply delete it but I thought it might be worth a try.
Anyone have any cautions about this? I know full well that not every reader is friendly.
advice: word verification is awesome, that will keep on spam. if you add the mod first feature it can block some people from people able to post...not sure why but it happened to me after I got a not so friendly visit. blogger makes it rather easy to edit/delete unwanted comments and they also flag comments that set off red flags. i have been using them since april for my food blog and it has worked well so far!
Thanks! I'll add this.
Hey Brother,I got some running to do so YOU and The Beautiful Bride have fun at the game. Keep her off the Zambomni tho. Everyone else stay safe and warm. Till tomorrow.
niteynite!
Cheers, sweet thang!
Oh my..... that foodie hater article made me giggle. A lot.
i cracked up at the line you pulled... :) hehe!
Is there any way we could really change the lounge picture? I'm in a mood to really fix it up. Or would we run into copyright barriers?
Kat Kinsman, Sarah Le Trent?
Dear Federal Gov't
I rescind my last post and make the following revision.
Go f@!k yourself.
Sincerely
TWO

*Rubs against Skottikins hand*
Dear Federal Gov't
Thanks for taking a giant poopoo on the roads by releasing all federal workers at the same time...in the ice and snow. You are a bastard.
Sincerely
TWO
Hey, we always knew the feebs were complete bung holes!
we aren't all that bad...
*reaches on top of fridge and pets sweet little raccoon*
He likes that!
Did any one read this? "Cover story: Where's the diversity at the Oscars?" I hate to be crass...but there is no affirmative action on talent. People are not voted on for their race, creed, gender, orientation, etc. They win for the work they do and the talent they express. How is this even a story??
hearhear!! its more about who ya know than what ya look like. i'm a bit miffed Nolan didnt get nominated for Inception...and normally i dont pay attention to the editing noms...but i'm surprised Inception didnt get nom'd for that either! in this day an age, Hollywood is a proponent for equal opportunity. :)
*Jumps back up ontop of fridge*
*Jumps off fridge and runs over to Tazer* *Licks Tazers leg and rubs against it*
No, haven't seen the pic. I always imagined he looked like C-3PO from Starwars.
ohhhhh no no no NO. he is Patrick Swayze via Roadhouse.
I'd hit that!
^ win
Foot prognosis today- not great. Trying to find shoes that'll fit with my brace.... not working. Also, called the doc to set another appt to go over pre-surgery and maybe get a CAM boot so I can do stuff without worrying about hurting it. Think I may have stress fractured my metatarsals. Joys.
Well your just filled with all sorts of fun facts today. When ya get your CAM wanna borrow my backup Beeper? It'll warn people when you approach-" BEEP, BEEP" and keep 'em off your foot.
Hey that might be fun but then I'd want one of those giant scooters to go with it so I could look like a complete gimp.
*Stops playing Piano* *Fixes bowtie* Runs off and sleeps ontop of Fridge*
Hey did you see the picture of our Patrick 2.0 over on the Blogging story? Just as I imagined him... :)
which story? Looked around but I'm missing a clue here.....
If it's the "Food for the Thoughtless" pic, I agree! Perfect fit!
*stops playing bongos* Walks back into man cave.
Only ONE cave now in burnt orange and coffee brown. Common area in the middle.
Ahaha Kudos wendy, Very valid line of thought. You know an OST for a movie would explain alot. >_< Looks like my memory ain't what it used to be either.
Okay well take care now and have your self a merry little adventure. AHAHA Party hardy
I have to go. Goodbye!
Thank you and it was a pleasure to have you with us. I hope you have yourself a fantastic afternoon and do enjoy the rest it.
FOr some reason when I sing the song or hear it, it brings up the movie con air for some reason, don't know why.
hmm. as far as i know all the music on the soundtrack is composed for the movie... but i can see why. i dont know the reason... but i can why you'd think of it. :)
Makes me think of Sahara with Matthew Mcconaughey
Glad to hear it-I am off work tomorrow as well, so I will stop in to say hello then! have a great afternoon!
Well I just tried it and it sounds like it goes Fap, Fap, but don't quote me on that, My hearing isn't what it used to be. >_<
*Stops singing* Hello and thank you for dropping in. I must agree with wendy all is well albeit dull. Thankfully though we have the bongo playing gorilla, Shiuaa on Piano and wendy and I doing vocals for sweet home alabama. ^_^ *Starts up again*
* Stops singing* Hello and a warm welcome to the lounge, pleasure to finally meet you and I also wish you a wonderful time tonight at the game. ;) have fun and well I have to join queen in the cheerful toast to wishing you see a tooth fly. ^_^ *Joins in again*
*Stops singing* Why did a gorilla come out of the man cave? Ooh well the more the merry in this sing along ^_^
What's the sound of one hand clapping...?
Whoosh Whoosh i am guessing
just wanted to stop in and say hey-hope everyone is doing well!
we're bored... well, but bored. :)
OMGosh!! we might hit 40' here tomorrow!!!! HOLEY SMOKES BATMAN!! it's a heat wave!!!!
*sniffle* and all my snow will melt... Frosty will get shorter... my stockpile of snowballs will be depleted...
hello?
yes?
Greetings! Have a great time at the game tonight. There's nothing better than watching a group of grown men beat the crap out of each other while on skates. Here's hoping you get to see someone get a tooth knocked out.
Yes. I think we have exciting. Happy to go to game!
be sure to dress warm. it can get cold in the arenas. :)
How ice not melt if inside?
That's a good question. They keep the arena pretty cold but I have no clue how they keep the ice from melting. I have always wanted to ride on a Zamboni though.
if im not mistaken there's a cooler running under the floor (kinda like a giant freezer).
What is zambuni?
did your husband not educate you in the way of hockey?!?! the zamboni is half the fun! :) its how the smooth the ice between periods.
A Zamboni is a machine that they drive around the ice to smooth it out. I think they smooth the ice between every quarter so you shoudl get a chance to see it.
Hi Chums-I have been sick with the strep...
Here's a mask to wear and some anti-bacterial wipes.
I'll need it when I grind up the stupidt Truth, Queen of NADA, Tazer, Richards gives Head, Tazer. I'll also run you over with that Zamboni before you become Taco Hell meat
yikes!! hope you feel better soon!!!
*comes out from man cave playing bongos to the beat of Alabama*
*Looks around and notices the odd stares from wendy and Sirius* *Changes tune and starts playing Sweet home alabama*
*Drags in mini-Piano and starts playing 1000 Miles*
Good raccoon! I LOVE this song :-) I'll make you some special animal safe treats!
*Starts singing along* Sweet home alabama, Where the skies are so blue, sweet Home Alabama Lord, I'm coming home to you In birmingham they love the governor.
Really? Well good to know it's loaded and ready, but I say not yet, for the most part he has been well behaved and has come a long way since his first day with his crazy posse and the animal raid.
awwwwww turn it up!! big wheels keep on turning...carry me home to see my kin...singing songs about the southland....
sweet home alabama.... approved to sing and drive!
Lol!!! Now that's the punch of the day. Kudos good one Miner.
*Runs under Michele*
Great, I asked you for your thought on the matter not to urinate. Y_Y Bad Coon, Bad coon. *Scolds Shiuaa*
If you need help dealing with a problem animal, I can help *loads syringe*
best sentence ever? i agree with one ew.com posted:
F. Scott Fitzgerald (from The Great Gatsby, 1925): “That any one should care in this heat whose flushed lips he kissed, whose head made damp the pajama pocket over his heart!”
That novel also gave me one of my fav lines in college with girls..."May I ask you something at the risk of sounding forward"...
faking a vapor, hmmm, is that akin to faking frontal labotomy for fun?
Later Jerv, ya I feel the same, way to much work here today. >_<
*Lifts leg and urinates on Fake vapor*
Well he has been away for awhile, maybe he did him some learning? Though when you think of it, it's hards for a braintard to learn anything new. Y_Y So Sadly I say FAKE!!!
Hmmm, Interesting a fake vapor, didn't think it was possible, what do you think Shiuaa?
Later folks. Haven't been able to play much lately been so busy at work.
This is a first for me: thunder while SNOWING...interesting...
Yup same here.
Bored.... bored.... boredboredboredboredbored.........
Hows the leg today Zsa Zsa?
DITTO... 1,000 X's Ditto!
Call the lifeguard...Woman overbored!
LOL!!!
Ok, it took me a minute (or five) to get that but now I'm laughing. Thanks for the funny!
No wonder the Colts can't win at football.
Hey now, there is no need to make disparaging remarks about another person's hometown sports teams. In there defense, who can understand a game with exclamation points on chains, on line kicks and at least one simulated crotch grab per play.
Hello and a good after trolls, how are the trolling going, you are all here wasting yours lives, it would be better used keeling ruselfs.
I call a fake on this one. Our Vapor isn't this eloquent nor is his spelling as accurate.
I agree. FAKE.
How's it going braintard? I see you finally figured out that in order to stop being blocked you just needed to get a new email address or use another computer. I now believe you no longer have a single digit IQ but one of about maybe 12.5.
"Speak of the devil........" or if you were back in acient Rome "Speak of cesar...."
Now why are we trying to summon vapor? I mean sure we miss his antics sometimes, but still it's been pretty peaceful and enojoyable w/o him though it was strange seeing him yesterday. @_@
Here, here. What's the saying? "Speak of the devil...." X_X
Why you ask? Because he is a cereal keeler! I'll be here all week.
No explanation needed...
since we've begun little orations I thought I'd furnish the cave woth a "real" Soap Box."

Question for the Day: (and i may get yelled at for posting this by some...)
Why do democrats have to pass a bill first in order to read and learn what is in it?
Because Nancy Pelosi is an abject moron.
Here goes, people....
Jalapeno Jelly Recipe
Sterilise 12-8 oz. jelly jars and lids. I wash the jars and then sterilise in a 225 degree oven for 15-20 minutes, keeping the jars hot until filled.
4 (+) cups of minced jalapeno peppers (Mince by hand for a better presentation. Do not use a food processor.)
3 cups apple cider vinegar
11 cups sugar
1 pkg (containing 2 envelopes) of Certo liquid pectin
1 pkg (1 envelope) of Surejell powdered pectin
Combine vinegar and sugar in a large pot and bring to a boil. Add pectins and jalapenos and bring back to a boil for one minute. Remove from heat. Fill jars leaving about 1/2 inch of head space in the jars. Wipe the tops of the jars and seal.
If done properly, and jars seal, the jelly will be shelf stable and able to be kept in the pantry. This recipe will make more than 12 jars. Any extra can be kept in an extra jar or in tupperware in the fridge for a couple of weeks.
You can vary the peppers used in the recipe depending on your personal preference. You can use jalapenos, fresno chile, etc. Jalapenos and red fresno chiles are a nice touch, if you are using the jelly for holiday gift-giving. Also, you can vary the amount of heat in the jelly by seeding and de-veining the chiles. I personally like the heat and will often leave some of the seeds and veins on the chiles when mincing for a spicier jelly.
Happy cooking everyone!
YAY!!! *jumps up and down clapping hands* i'm staying in this weekend cuz its gonna be cold, and i now have a task! thanks much!!!
I forgot to mention that the jelly will set up over a few days. The first couple of days it will seem a bit runny, and it will never be the same consistency as most jellies/jams. It should be just a little underset. Try serving it over a brick of softened cream cheese with good crackers. It's awesome!
It's really good and easy! SB is a pro haha :)
oo that sounds so good!! i've had some spicy raspberry 'jelly' that i put over cream cheese, and it was delish! i'm excited to try that with the pepper jelly! thanks for the tips/info!
Ain't that the truth tazer? Though some days that fraud shtick is uglier than others and sadly today is that day, well at least for me X_X. I hope your shtick isn't that big or ugly today.
Not too bad since the media jumped all over our branch (even though we were not culpable in any of it).... since then we've been dead. completely dead. Y_Y
*Mimics racccon pose in pic*
haha I agree, P&L is always something fun to play with. Fraud and P&L that's how you know your in miami style banking. Y_Y
Anywhere nowadays. I'm in a pretty small town and still have to deal with the fraud shtick.
P&L is a pain in the @$$ but at least it tells us what we need to do to make more dough.
ok everyone. if you like Steven Tyler, and even if you dont you gotta check the pics out. ew.com posted 15 faces to go with 15 aerosmith songs from the Idol show... and they are frakkin hilarious! :) (yes, i'm on lunch killin time eating my lunchable and cup a soup)
He's got a rubber face!
I brought a real nice painting of the Grand Canyon to hang in our cave. It's a ling URL but the image is worth it.

Morning Kids... groovy day playing with the P&L...
today's mantra:
"A day without an argument is like an egg without salt. "
HAH! my study website had today's word as "gung-ho".
"I must admit, i am certainly gung-ho for everything snow-related."
Afternoon all! I have some Vanilla Tres Leche Cupcakes and some Tiramisu Cupcakes as well. Hoping the snow goes north but thinking that's not likely :-(
tiramisu cupcakes??? please expound on that! i love tiramisu, and did not know that it came in cupcake form!!
It was for a Godiva Baking Challenge, had to take one of their dessert truffles and re-imagine it. So I made coffee cupcakes stuffed with an espresso ganache and then a mascarpone icing with white chocolate shavings. I didn't win the challenge but they are AMAZING! I will probably be posting the recipe in March as part of the Frosting4Cause challenge :-D
Wow, those sound amazing!! Please feel free to share the recipe!
I'll be posting it here: http://www.frostingforthecause.com/ on March 26th. It's a great cause, every day a different baker will be posting a recipe all for cancer awareness. In order to participate have to donate $25 to the organization of your choice and then post your best recipe on your special day. They are still looking for people if anyone is interested!
yumyum!! i cant wait to try making them! pls let us know when you post the recipe!
Will do! I posted the information for Frosting for the cause above and then my blog is http://dancingveggies.blogspot.com and I'll be posting more cupcakes on there as I perfect my frosting techniques including my Molten Caramel Vanilla Cupcakes which are a diabetic coma waiting to happen :-D
I also take suggestions so if anyone has ideas let me know!
Ha ha ha...not that kind of smoke!
Thanks! I think the hubs will have a fit if I try to run the gas grill for 6 hours...maybe I'll just go to Stonefire Grill and order some of their tri tip to go...
you can also do it in your oven... same basic principle... put the oven on low at 200', foil pack, etc... proceed accordingly. :) the smoke takes time...but it's so worth it. altho i must admit that obtaining a smoker or a charcoal grill is the best way to go.
My mom does this AMAZING BBQ brisket for the winter holidays and it is AMAZING! I have been a veggies for the past 10yrs and this is the one dish that I will occasionally eat, it's THAT good!
U gots to pay to play.
#1 Unless you want the smoke detecter going off every 3 minutes DO NOT use the wood chips in the OVEN. Of course it is a great way to meet men in uniform{ie-the fire dept.}.
#2. minimum of 4 hrs, smoke time outside.
#3. preheat inside oven to 225 to 250-remove brisket from grill and spray it down with pineapple juice. Double wrap it in Heavy Duty aluminum foil ,place in a different pan and finish cooking inside.
#4. I never said it was easy but it is well worth it.
OK, so now there is clue # 4, I think I lost count...pineapple juice too!!?? I'll have to see how adventurous I feel this weekend...thanks!
really??? i've used wood chips in the oven before with no fire.. hmm... i must be lucky... : )
Hey, you out there?? I need to know if the brisket can be eaten by itself, or is this just for the chili?? At 1 1/2 hours smoked will it be done? I don't do well with bloody meat...
i'll answer for him until he gets here. you're going to need to smoke it for a minimum of 6 hours to get the full smokey flavor (and to properly cook it through). and you can definitely eat it by itself! :)
I smoke for a few minutes and am hungry enough to eat a whole camel afterward.
ahhhh the memories... " i need coooool raaaaaaach doriiiiiiiiiiitooooooooooooooooos!" 2 hours of that from me my the driver after a 'stop' on a road trip waaaay back in the day. OY. first and only time EVER.
*Goes to jukebox and plays uncle cracker follow me*
Well hello and a wonderfully good morning to you as well.
You have a Benihana or tappenyaki in your area? I love that.
That is not a bad idea. I may just do that.
Blackpeppers, olives, mayo, mustard, oil, vinegar, Salt, and cucumber.
No tomatoes for me, so I am a B, L, and egg with some real mayo is great on the weekend.
Tonight is date night. Taking my bride to the Colorado Avalanche game. Any good ideas for something different for dinner before?
HOCKEY!!!! i LOVE hockey!!!! i used to be the proud owner of some KC Blades season tickets... pre-hockey game food has to be good ole american fare. meat/protein of the burger variety with some steak fries. :) i know it's not different, but it's HOCKEY!!!
Mrs. Truth is of the mindset that says taking a day off for ANY reason is just plain lazy, so this is a treat. She is taking the bus downtown to meet me at my office. Will be fun. I think she likes hockey since it is fairly straightforward and not a lot of arcane rules like baseball or football.
amen to that! and it's fast action... nonstop testerone fueled fun. :) i'm jealous!!
*Scratches head* *Squeeeak, Squeeak, squeeak* (Translation: anyleftovers I can find in the giant cold hard containers I find outside)
If you dumpster dive you have to stay outside ALL the time. If you want to come INside and sleep in a nice cushioned crate then NO diving into the trash dumpsters.
Non-negotiable rule.
Morning all, and a happy Wednesday to you!
I am an avid chair dancer! I live for the loud tunes, the confused pedestrians, and scandalized drivers at lights. And GAGA is especialy good for it. My new fav, though, is " Hold it aginst me" by B-Spears. I shook it all the way to work this morning.
i havent heard that song yet... i take it that it's as good as they're saying it is? :)
OH yes. Please get it ASAP. It's so good i'll give you the $1.29 to get it on Itunes.
totally off topic... i got some cd's from the library yesterday and chair danced my way to work this morning to 'Bad Romance' while the car thumped down the highway. whether or not you like Gaga, her music is great to dance to! :)
oh, and food related – dinner tonite is the classic BLT. i'm havg apple smoked bacon, iceberg lettuce, tomato (from my mom's garden), & a smidge of miracle whip on whole wheat toast. with an accompaniment of salt n vinegar chips. cant wait for 6pm to get here!!
what do YOU guys put on your BLT's?
AVOCADO!!!
on sourdough bread.
yum! i love avocado! i'll have to try that next time i pick some up!
Mayo and blackpepper.
Yeah, GaGa is great for dancing in the car, and I agree with Skotti. The new Britney single is rather fun.
I tend to chair dance to Wham! which is not appreciated when I'm "driving" on the beltway...
I am a fan of the LT w/Avocado and chipotle mayo :-D not sure if that counts tho since I'm missing the B
There is a whole family of wild turkeys in our backyard. They are strutting around with their black glossy feathers looking like a bad-azz motorcycle gang. I'm going out to pet them. They are quite tame when they know you have some food. I've got some dried corn and a little leftover cornbread. Let's see if they will eat. Then I'll feed the rest to the catfish under the dock nesting in the old Christmas tree. Gotta watch those spiney things. They will poke you. White bread is what they like the best.
Wild turkeys are some pretty smart birds.
*Starts punching wooden carvings of Shuiaa*
Don't do that. They saved your life yesterday.
Thanks SeaBee! Sounds yummyy... i love those CA oranges. We used to get them all the time when i lived in Fresno/ Madera.
Thanks for the OJ, love it. Nothing better than freshly squeezed Oj to start a person right.
*Jumps on table and waves hello to everyone*
Good morning everybody, another beautiful and breezy day down in here South Florida and I hope you are all also having a wonderful day. ^_^ Btw Kudos to the chef this coffee is awesome. =D
Buenos Dias, amigos. Balmy as paradise here in the west of the west. Having some of RH's coffee so I'm perking (Pun!) up.
Mornin' all! Not to rub it in, but it is, again, another gorgeous day here in CA. Fresh squeezed some OJ this morning for everyone!
Good morning chums! I have to admit that I'm not really a fan of BBQ, but locally, Dinosaur BBQ is the favorite for many people.
We got some brisket from New Braunfel's that was tasty. Along with some smoked pheasant and bacon. Their sauce is very good. Pretty Texas-tasting considering it comes from New England. They cob smoke stuff, too. I tried cob smoked trout on the Big Green Egg and it was so sweet. My grandfather used to cob smoke his hams. They weren't as pungent as some smoked hams but they were very good nonetheless. I'm really getting into smoked seafood. Smoked oysters and shrimp, salmon and trout. Even smoked salt. That stuff is good. And a smoked sweet potato is great. Smoked little red potatoes work well in potato salad.
Smoked little red potatoes work well in potato salad. That really does sound good.
I recorded it on my DVR to watch this morning. I have to say... I am a blue bleeding Democrat and still dont know how our resolve and spirit can pull us back from trillions in debt...We've placed ourselves in a position where, unless we make drastic chnages, we will be insolvent. Sorry for acting so pejoratively. (WOD!)
I am so far right, I can make Reagan look like a fan of the New Deal and I completely agree with you. The other aspect that nobody seems able to address yet is the fact that 86% of the federal budget is SSI, Medicare and other items that cannot be touched. That does not leave much room for cutting aside from raising taxes or even the prospect of a currency devaluation. Not a pretty picture.
Absolutely correct. And the prospects of growing our way out of it are so slim so as not to even be a consideration. Just wait until those folks holding our tbills start demanding higher interest rates.
I devoutly hope that we are not living through what historians will call the "moment" when America turned a corner into a permanent decline.
That's the best analogy I've heard all day. And it's true, I'll be the first left to admit it, the entitelment programs are BROKEN. There are people who have passed away who's families are still cashing their checks. Fraud is RAMPENT in medicare, and no one prapared for the boomers ( no offense to anyone! ) to be leaving the work force because all the money they paid in has been borrowed. *steps off soap box*.
oh, and to add to the address conver above.. i watched it out of the corner of my eye. and i couldnt get enough of Boehner's facial expressions... he clearly has little respect for what the man speaking had to say. the shots of the politicians at their seats was a bit telling also. i like how he brought up the fact that in OTHER countries teachers are held high in regard...but in OUR country they're one of the lowest paid and least respected professionals. and he addressed that in no way, shape, or form. when he does something about THAT i might believe a smidgen of what comes out of his mouth.
to borrow from tazer *stepping off soapbox*
Good Morning all!! :) the best BBQ is at Arthur Bryant's.. in the hood. truly. ya gotta go to the hood. dont bother with one of the franchise locales...hit the hood for the best. you havent had BBQ till you've gone there and gotten an honest to goodness handful and a half of brisket slapped on four pieces of white bread piled on top of a mountain of fries and drowned in their original sauce. all washed down with the KC local Boulevard beer of your choice. SERIOUSLY.
Hello everyone! After some Vitamin C and a Nyquil night, I'm feeling somewhat better.
As for BBQ, Shorty's is pretty good. Love their beef brisket!

The holo-communicator was a new advance in Federation communications technology in the 24th century. It allowed two parties to converse as if in the same room by sending holograms of each other courtesy of projectors installed in the floor.
They were first deployed in Starfleet in 2373 on the bridges of ships such as the USS Defiant and USS Malinche; Captains Sisko and Sanders used theirs for the first time to coordinate their attempt to capture the Maquis leader Michael Eddington. The Maquis had been able to "procure" a holo-communicator of their own, allowing Eddington to use it to contact Sisko during the hunt. As the communicator was installed after the cascade virus that damaged all the other systems on the Defiant, it continued to work throughout Sisko's pursuit of Eddington. A holo-communicator was also installed in Captain Sisko's office on Deep Space 9 at this time, and was used by Odo to communicate with Sisko aboard the Defiant. (DS9: "For the Uniform")
The holo-communicator in Captain Sisko's office was later used to allow him to converse with Rear Admiral Bennett on the matter of Doctor Julian Bashir's genetic engineering. (DS9: "Doctor Bashir, I Presume")
Kurros of the Think Tank used a similar technology which created an isomorphic projection of himself aboard the vessels of potential clients. The projection was sophisticated enough to taste beverages. (VOY: "Think Tank")
Shinzon used a holo-communicator to demand Jean-Luc Picard's surrender in 2379. His device was more advanced, however, as it was able to be projected into an area without holo-emitters and it was impossible to trace the signal back to the Scimitar. (Star Trek Nemesis
Good morning all. I should wander to the cafeteria and get breakfast. I have a little (single serving size) jar of orange marmalade that I got during trip that I want to use up.
Mornining from teh side of the mountain all
which mountain?? personally i like Pike's Peak. :)
Morning everyone. Quiet but busy morning. As for barbecue, Pierces in Lightfoot VA is the best.
Good mroning all!
Quiet day here in the MHC. How is everyone doing?
Did you watch the State of the Union? I confess I did not but am doing some reading on it.
I was out until late last night. Like you, I am reading about it. Sounds about what I expected. What are your thoughts?
I tend to be cynical. I don't see how we can do much of anything with 14 trillion dollars in debt. The old American can-do spirit can only do so much. I think the best way out is a complete overhaul of the tax code. Everyting goes and you wind up with reduced rates for everyone and more revenue for Big Brother. But, that will never happen.
I really agree. Not only is the debt going to result in higher taxes, but I really think it will stifle growth for decades to come. Add that to the fact that America really does not manufacture much any more and I fail to see the way out. As a nation, we tend to feed and entertain ourselves and not much more.
We're screwed.
Morning! Thanks for the coffee! Busy day here at the farm...hope to be back in time for WOD!! Have a great one!
Good morning, coffee is on. See you later!
