Since we just hit you with a pretty gut-punching interview with Chef Suvir Saran on the subject of HIV/AIDS activism and the disease's impact on the food world, we decided to lighten things up a bit this afternoon with a good old-fashioned food fight courtesy of the original shock jock, Steve Dahl.
Besides being a popular radio personality, Dahl considers himself somewhat of a pizza aficionado - and now, he's throwing down the gauntlet declaring deep-dish Chicago-style pizza the best in all the land. What say you New York?

1. "Because the pieces are so large, thick and cheesy, you can usually only eat one or two pieces, so there are always plenty of leftovers."
2. "The best part about Chicago pizza leftovers are that they reheat splendidly in the microwave, due to their thickness and consistency and you don’t have to do any work besides eat it again!"

I grew up on New York-styled pizza and I still believe it is the best when it is fresh. Thin crust or Sicilian... just awesome. However, after eating at Lou Malanti's in Chicago last spring, I have to admit that Chicago-styled pizza leftovers taste better than NY-styled pizza leftovers. The textures just hold up or heat up better the next day.
Chicagoans have the best thick pizza because they know you have to wait for it to cook a while. It's not Chicago pizza if after you order they don't say, "It's going to be an hour or more wait"
I'm a native Chicagoan, had my first pizza from Leona's in the early 50s, when they were still on Belmont.
Best pizza ever is Chicago style, thin crust, cut in squares (not wedges).
There is no better pizza than in Chicago.
I alternate between Salerno's (great cheese) and La Gondola (best overall).
I lived both in the east coast and here in Chicago. I can tell you right now, Chicago pizza is awful! Not just their deep dish but all of it. I have yet to find one that tastes like pizza should. They do something weird to the sauce here and even the thin crust is weird, it's like eating cardboard. Though nothing is as horrid as deep dish. Give me new york style any day.
