5@5 is a daily, food-related list from chefs, writers, political pundits, musicians, actors, and all manner of opinionated people from around the globe.

In case you've been living under, like, a grill or smoker or something and don't automatically recognize those signature spiky, golden locks, this here is self-professed "kulinary gangsta" (there's a tattoo) and celebrity chef Guy Fieri - host of Food Network’s wildly popular series “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and NBC’s prime-time game show “Minute to Win It.”

So - how does one exactly win over the stomach of his Honorable Dude-liness? Read on, brah.

The Top Five Things I Look for in a Good Diner, Drive-In or Dive: Guy Fieri

1. Good Characters
"A place has to have a lot of character AND also be loaded with characters. My favorite example of this: Hodad’s in San Diego, California."

2. Unique regional food
"An awesome diner, drive-in, or dive has GOT to have food that is unique and represents their region. One that stands out: Chap’s Pit Beef in Baltimore."

3. Real Deal Culinary Style
"The cooks and people running the joint really have to know what they are doing in the kitchen. Chef Point Cafe in Watauga, Texas is a place where they are doing it right!"

4. Old School Traditions
"You gotta love a place that is still doing it like they did years ago! Don’t miss BBQ King Drive-In in Charlotte, North Carolina."

5. Funky
"If a place is off the wall and funky, we’ll find it on DDD. Joe’s Gizzard City in Michigan is a place I’ll never forget!"

Is there someone you'd like to see in the hot seat? Let us know in the comments below and if we agree, we'll do our best to chase 'em down.

I love Guy, however, I agree that he should stick to food. Somehow, the game show just doesn't work for him as much as the food deal.

Vapor is a liberal stooge and I am sure he wet himself after the shooting in AZ this weekend, crying about gun control.

LOL! I don't think he is even potty trained yet.

Love how you were laying out those vegan liberal stooges in the horse meat article.

Have you ever noticed that the far left is all about "choice" when it comes to killing a baby, but that "choice" stops the minute you state your desire to eat a balanced diet, or own a weapon?

Yup I sure have. There are so many contradictions in politics now it is an absurdity. Conversely, if repubs really stood for smaller govt, lower taxes and personal choice, I would vote for them all the time. I've givein up on politics.

I totally agree...I come down hard on the left, but the right is no good as well. I truly believe that within our lifetimes, the film "Idiocracy" will look like nothing short of prophesy.

Yup, I bet you are correct. In the mean time, all liberal stooges must be called out and taken to task.

The Yabba Pot in Baltimore is one of the most interesting places I have ever been. Delicious vegan soul food. I know vegan sounds weird for DDR, but this place knows what they are doing. Also the Chicago Diner in Chicago is awesome. Could be a cool theme. And, I am not vegan!

I love Fieri's positive energy, and think he is a great addition to television. Nix on the naysayers.

I worked with Guy at one of his first joints...and I can say,...he is not acting in any way and has a true passion about dining...in it to win it is all I can think of when it comes to him. He's had a number of setbacks but has never, not once, given up. My hats off to you Guy...keep it up!

WOW you all are some seriously jealous and judgmental people. I knew Guy before he got famous and ironically was fan of the show without making the connection even though he looked and acted the same when he hung around back in the day. When my family and I bumped into him one night he came up to me saying hello and that’s when it clicked. You may not like his style but I can attest that this is the real him not some character and that he is a great person.

Our family loved this guy but we are dismayed with the weird, obnoxious and lame game show schtick. What the heck was he thinking taking on this project??!! Apparently his ego is now larger than his..... We enjoyed watching his bio documentary. It shows he has a great family and a super value system. Hey stick with what you are good at Guy...food making and being a charming reporter of great eating.
