Pssst! Got a sec to chat?

We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk - whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.

We also pay a lot of attention to what our regulars and new visitors have to say, and thought we'd try a little experiment. For the next few days, we'll run a new "Coffee klatsch" post, and designate that as the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic.

Let us know what you think, and if works for you, we'll make it a daily deal - with occasional surprises for our regulars.

Now where's that Americano we ordered?...

Well MANY congrats on the online meeting! I hope it works for the best, whatever form that may take.

And for the record, I did the homemade peppermint bark last night, and I think I may have found something better than $@#...

Gentlemen and Ladies, have just souped up my computer for a lively 5@5. Everyone ready?

    December 6, 2010 at 4:52 pm |
    • jillmarie

I was born ready for 5@5! Hope it's an interesting person and topic!

      December 6, 2010 at 5:00 pm |
      • RichardHead

UMMMM You didn't come in on this one.

        December 6, 2010 at 5:20 pm |
      • RichardHead@JM

Every day we have a contest to see who is the first one to hit on 5@5. It's a Jdizzle tradition.

same goes for me too! cnn.com saves many a boring day for me while at work at a courthouse :)

    December 6, 2010 at 3:33 pm |
  9. jillmarie

Don't get me started! I always wondered if anyone else has such limited access to the internet besides cnn.com. Is it just me, or it it quite common? Dunno, but I've never been so up to date with all types of news! Great conversation starters arise from my time spent here at work ;)

    December 6, 2010 at 3:10 pm |
    • Jerv@Jillm

I work in the medical field and they are very super protective of patient confidentiality. If it ain't work related, I'm not gettin' to it. Not even Facebook. Two exceptions I have found are CNN and Businessweek.

      December 6, 2010 at 3:16 pm |
      • jillmarie

        I just tried businessweek- I don't get access :(

        December 6, 2010 at 4:58 pm |
  10. jillmarie

Cool idea! I love the chat, and also love comments related to the articles. I'll be on both. Thank goodness I am able to access cnn.com at work (I can't access any others besides my company website!) so this saves the day for me!

    December 6, 2010 at 2:38 pm |
    • Jerv@Jillmarie

With you there Jmarie. Would go absolutely stir crazy without CNN.com.

      December 6, 2010 at 2:53 pm |
  11. Sir Biddle@Truth

HA! Yea, sounds like a fine idea. I'll meet you in the conference room, just wait there.

    December 6, 2010 at 2:24 pm |
  12. Jane@Sir Biddle

Sir, do you mind if I stop by at about 4:55 today...I have a number of things that I need to discuss with you at length...

    December 6, 2010 at 2:21 pm |
  13. RichardHead

We are terrible! Probably busy at work as she is leaving for a foreign country tomorrow.

    December 6, 2010 at 2:21 pm |
  14. Truth@RichHead

I think you and WD need to take to the road and find her. You can be her knight in a shining Peterbilt...;)

    December 6, 2010 at 1:35 pm |
    • RichardHead

Maybe that evil bald headed guy Michael Symon has kidnapped her! Could be feeding her duck liver and all sorts of fattening things to make sure she does not fit into that black dress!

      December 6, 2010 at 1:41 pm |
      • Truth@RichHead

I can see it now..."It rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again..."

        December 6, 2010 at 1:56 pm |
      • RichardHead

WD would need a piece of her clothing to catch a scent. Any suggestions?

        December 6, 2010 at 2:00 pm |
      • Sir Biddle@Truth

She puts the lotion in the basket

Give me my dog back, gimmie my dog back....PRECIOUS!!!!!

        December 6, 2010 at 2:15 pm |
      • Truth@RichHead, Biddle

"I think it would be quite something to know you in private life Clarice..."

Not sure about the clothing...I think there are magazines where you can order that sort of thing...x)

        December 6, 2010 at 2:18 pm |
      • Jerv@SirB

        LOL! "What's taters, Precious?!"

        December 6, 2010 at 2:27 pm |
      • Truth@Jerv, Biddle, RichHead

I used to have a co-worker who I was training in 1992, just after that movie was in theatres...When she would come by my office to bug me, I used to like to tell her (in Hopkins' deadpan tone) "People will say we're in love"...

        December 6, 2010 at 3:58 pm |
      • RichardHead@Truth

I had never heard of a girls name {Clarice} until moving to Texas. Wonder what origin that is. Sent AD an e-mail. Must have slammed her at work or Bob screwed up again.

        December 6, 2010 at 4:11 pm |
      • Sir Biddle@RH

Look at you Rich, how did you get her e-mail?

        December 6, 2010 at 4:16 pm |
      • RichardHead@SirB

Top Secret Security concerns prohibit me from divulging said info.

        December 6, 2010 at 4:22 pm |
      • Sir Biddle@RH

        Roger that.

        December 6, 2010 at 4:26 pm |
      • RichardHead@SirB

Not to rub it in BUT SHE IS A BABE!

        December 6, 2010 at 4:32 pm |
  15. RichardHead

Should we put out an Amber Alert on AuroraDawn? Haven't heard from her this morning.

    December 6, 2010 at 1:32 pm |
    • Evil Grin

Perhaps she has a cold today. In that case, this would be a good day for her to check in.

      December 6, 2010 at 1:37 pm |
  16. Truth@RichHead

I saw that...Truly sad. Another legend gone :(

and speaking of being gone, where be AD today? Eatocracy is not the same without the fairer gender being represented...

    December 6, 2010 at 1:30 pm |
  17. RichardHead@Truth

Did ya catch my post on Dandy Don?

Regarding the Secret Supper in Atlanta: I'm very disappointed – you tell us about this fabulous secret supper and show us videos of some of the food. The articles/videos left me totally frustrated. It might have been more informative if you had given us a complete list of all the foods served and photos of each dish with details. Not fair to say the food was creative, fabulous, etc. and then skimp on the details. Since I wasn't invited to the supper the least you can do is give me as much information as possible so I don't feel totally left out.

    December 6, 2010 at 11:53 am |
    • Kat Kinsman

Hi Kathryn – we covered the menu pretty thoroughly here: http://eatocracy.cnn.com/2010/11/10/live-from-the-cnn-secret-supper/ Perhaps we could have linked that more directly from the story. Thanks for the suggestion – I'll go and pop in a more direct link now.

    • Sir Biddle@EG

Only if its Fortnum & Mason Assam Suprerb and you bring plenty to share with me.

      December 6, 2010 at 11:49 am |
      • Evil Grin

        Done!

        December 6, 2010 at 11:57 am |
    • Truth@EG, Biddle

We will need to have coffee, tea and all sorts of soft drinks as well, so as to accomodate our Bro JDizz upon his return. Do NOT want to jeapardize his recovery program in any way, you know?

      December 6, 2010 at 12:31 pm |
      • RichardHead

I'll bring the DrPepper from Dublin,TX.

        December 6, 2010 at 12:37 pm |
      • Evil Grin

I did not think of that, Truth. The Coffee klatsch shall have to be alcohol-free henceforth.

        December 6, 2010 at 1:33 pm |
  22. Sir Biddle

Good call Kat. I can understand that the group gets off topic and it can be a distraction to some others who come strickly for the foodie-talk. Hope we havn't strayed your original plan for this site and appreciate making room for whats become more of a friendly coffee club.

    December 6, 2010 at 11:34 am |
  23. Mae

Fabulous idea! The back-and-forth between the regular posters is interesting to read and I do find it quite amusing. However, it would be very nice to be able to easily read comments directly related to the article at hand rather than sifting through a great deal of off topic posts first.

    December 6, 2010 at 11:02 am |
  24. Kat Kinsman

This is, I hope you all know, done out of total respect and fondness. Sarah and I adore you all - you keep us amused all day and we're grateful you chose to come here. I figure that if we put a VIP lounge here, people can talk more easily and we'll see what we can do about putting in some exclusive treats.

Dubs on the recliner and the Remote.

      December 6, 2010 at 11:00 am |
      • Jerv@RH

Only so long as I have a clear path to the fridge for cold beer.

        December 6, 2010 at 11:04 am |
      • HOMER

        MMMMMMMMM..Cold Beer.

        December 6, 2010 at 11:08 am |
      • Truth@RichHead, Jerv, Biddle

Want to grab me a cold one, while you are up? And what can we do about getting a pool table put in here?

        December 6, 2010 at 11:36 am |
      • RichardHead@Truth

Sure,Would You like a glass with that. BTW AD gets the recliner while I'm up 'cuz she likes to set next to WD.And we need a Dart Board and a Video game set, too.

        December 6, 2010 at 11:41 am |
  25. Truth

    Great idea!
I think this is what Eatocracy hass evolved into, so I hope this will cool down the hotheads some. The regs are what keeps the flavor here anyway.

    December 6, 2010 at 10:51 am |
  26. RichardHead

Perfect idea Kat as I am the WORST Offender-next to Jdizzle of course.

    December 6, 2010 at 10:51 am |
    • Jerv@RicH

While I love the muskateers, Jdizz and everyones sense of humor, some folks just don't get it so I think this would be fitting.

      December 6, 2010 at 10:55 am |
      • RichardHead

I concur my friend. As Truth said we have evolved-walking straight up feels better than hunched over.

        December 6, 2010 at 10:58 am |
    • Evil Grin

Jdizzle won't know what to make of all these changes when he gets back.

      December 6, 2010 at 11:46 am |
      • RichardHead@EG

I agree my friend. Won;t be long now.

        December 6, 2010 at 11:50 am |
  27. Jerv

I like the idea. I've noticed some well intentioned folks stop by and go away upset because they were looking for something less informal.
