Get a home-cooked meal any night of the week – if you live in the Netherlands, that is. Tweetjemee is a website for those who cook and those who eat (read: everyone). Home cooks can make whatever and however much they want and then sell the fruits of their labor online. The "chef" decides the meal, price and pick-up time, turning his or her kitchen into a “webtaurant.” Sometimes diners are invited into the chef’s house to enjoy the meal in the comfort of their kitchen. Maarten Bennis, one of the founders of Tweetjemee and a creative director at Bennis & Zeelenberg, said he and his friend Manette Zeelenberg came up with the idea for the website about a year ago. “Tweetjemee brings people together by food in a very real and tangible way,” Bennis tells Eatocracy. “It strengthens social cohesion and gives people a platform for culinary self-expression.” The site was formulated with the intention of being a corporate social responsible enterprise, defined by the European Commission as “a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interaction with their stakeholders on a voluntary basis.” For Tweetjemee, this means donating 10 percent of profits to The Hunger Project, an organization seeking to end world poverty and hunger. “The beauty of Tweetjemee is that while enjoying it for your very own reasons, you not only make a difference in your own neighborhood but also in remote and forgotten parts of the world,” Bennis said. Unfortunately for U.S. residents, the website's services are only available in the Netherlands, but Bennis said Tweetjemee is looking to branch out. “The first step to bring it to the United States and elsewhere is to translate the site in English,” he said. “Eventually, we want to bring this to the rest of the world.” |

What a cool website. I want to go there just for the eye candy. I so wish I spoke more languages. I love that 10% of the profits is being donated. How awesome is that?
