Even the most adventurous eaters often give their inner food warrior the day off on Thanksgiving - nothing but the same turkey, stuffing (or dressing!), cranberries, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie they've been eating since childhood. If one of those dishes goes missing, the whole meal just doesn't feel right. Other families stray away from the standards - some friends of ours have to have collard greens, whiskey sours and banana pudding for the day to feel right, while another family dives into duck - and develop their own must-indulge traditions. iReporter Joshua Estrin (a.k.a. "Celebbuzzz") sat down with 'Rules of Engagement' star Megyn Price to chat about the challenges of feeding a half vegetarian, half meat-eating family on the holidays and why her celery walnut salad just flat-out rules. Her family dinners are probably pretty interesting, considering her parents are brother and sister. Which means her own parents are also her aunt and uncle . . . .
Please don't tell me she's from Arkansas.
No, I don't think she's from Arkansas, but it's true that her parents are siblings. Look it up.
You do know we have been eating that same green bean casserole for 50+ years!
Can't Campbell's or someone please come-up with something new?
Be creative, come up with something on your own. :)
It's pretty easy to improve on green bean casserole, just add plenty of garlic, a bit of worcestershire sauce, and a lot of dill. I always make it this way, and it's delicious.
I'm a loser.
Are you a cousin?
Like I said yesterday "My favorite holiday"....
Did you give Sarah sunscreen, dark glasses an umbrella and breadcrumbs as she never gets out of the office? Better call out the Mounties in case she gets lost!
For some reason this is my busy time of the year.I like the Easter Bunny too,but he craps eggs all over the sanctuary!
Cryin' lauging with tears!
Oh man, another thread for Audrey to get off on her soap box. YIKES.
Left you the answer on another thread.
huh?
Lunchtime Poll yesterday. You can thank me later.
Is it my imagination, or does it seem all too often that holidays are way more trouble than they are worth, between the travel hassles, the cranky relatives and the rest?
This is why I have a CHP and load it with Blanks. It helps my older relatives if they are constipated.
Truth speaks the truth. I have literally exorcised myself from my family to avoid all the drama, hate and guilt trips that accommodate the "holidays." I've been happy for years now. I love Santa and the Easter Bunny.
You could have Audrey over... ;)
Thankfully, my parents are in NY, and I am in Colo, so no real expectations to visit since my work is busy at year end. The inlaws are in Asia, so that is a non-issue.
I've lived with enough GFs though, to see the holiday hell in action. I think women tend to overdo things in the pursuit of perfection that most of us guys have LONG since abandoned.
My family on my Mom's side is pretty chill (think Prop 19), so it's a fun time. My Dad's side is fragmented heavily, though I talk to a few of them. Half of them, including myself, don't even talk to my Dad. He and his 4th wife are so judgmental of everyone it starts fights, so we just keep the communication to zero with some family members. Problem solved!
@Snow With or without the soap box?
without!
How can anyone with a fourth wife be judgemental???
Interesting...
Cause he's a know-it-all.
Couldn't agree more. Though fun and entertaining, they come at a high cost: plane/train tix, ackward forced conversations, and juggling between multiple family visits. Jdizzle – What size lampshade do you wear?

Please Kat-Not again! I don't think I can take anymore of the Vegans trying to make me eat veggies.I may go watch "Attack of The Killer Tomatoes" instead!
I bet they like TubeSteak, though.
