Every so often, we're highlighting a local or regional blogger we think you ought to know about. We can’t be everywhere at once, so we look to these passionate eaters, cooks and writers to keep us tapped into every facet of the food world. Consider this a way to get to know a blog’s taste buds, because, well, you should.

Meet today's featured blogger and blog:
Who: Tami Hardeman, of Running with Tweezers
Where: Atlanta, Georgia
Twitter: @runwithtweezers

My life as I know it today is founded on a pink rubber eraser called "The Wiener Leaner."

Six or so years ago, I was a mostly successful fashion stylist and journalist based in Atlanta. Making more money than art, I had hit a point in my career where I just wasn't feeling very fulfilled. Serendipitously, a photographer I worked with at the time called me in a panic. He had a random food shoot come up and was skeptical about the stylist they'd hired. Since he knew I could cook, he asked if I could work as an assistant (and take a serious pay cut) for the day just to have an extra set of hands there. As an act of goodwill, I accepted - and my life was never the same.

As it turned out, that stylist really didn't have any clue what she was doing, but my food knowledge and styling instincts kicked in. I sorted through bread to find the perfect ones, glossed up meat with olive oil and christened a slanted rubber eraser as the "Wiener Leaner" due to its perfect angle to prop hot dogs on for the camera. I was in heaven, as well as completely incredulous - someone actually gets to do this for a living?! This revelatory day was immortalized in the Hot Dog Bingo Card that was handed out at Atlanta Braves games - that index card-sized piece of paper was on my fridge for years. From that day on, I started assisting food stylists in town in order to learn the craft - making one-fourth of what I did per day as a fashion stylist but loving every minute of it. These days, I work full-time as a food stylist for clients like Publix Supermarkets, Olive Garden, McDonald's and Arby's, as well as magazine editorials and cookbooks.

My blog came about four and a half years ago while I was standing in the prep kitchen on a photo shoot. I had been reading this amazing website (the word blog was still a little suspect to me) called, "Orangette." Blown away by the combination of heartfelt writing and beautiful food, I really felt a connection to this blog. I missed writing and taking photos of my own - so, I randomly announced to everyone on set that I was starting a blog. They turned, looked at me and carried on with their day. I went home, researched blogging websites and "Running With Tweezers" was born. It's been my safe place, my shoulder to cry on, my pen-pal message board, my test kitchen and an accidental way to promote my styling career. Having been friends with my blog for close to five years, I can't imagine my life - all of the opportunities I've been given and the people I've met - without it.

"Having been friends with" with many blogs over the last ten years, I have come to the conclusion that no matter how much "love" may go into a blog initially, the goal of all bloggers is to make big money from their "safe place." Whether the site is purchased by a mega-tech company, or a book deal is proffered, or a movie deal signed...it's money that is the goal. So congratulations on your success, Tweezer Girl, but I'm not buying the modesty bit.

It's always interesting to hear odd jobs that we never think of/hear about. Met this guy the other day that paints water towers around the country. Makes $75,000 a month. I have no fear of heights, I will be researching this.
