Say whatever you want about Muslims they do Know how to make sweets. I would like to see some original,Indian cuisine here. Not the chick tikka but real stuff they make in households. Each state in india have their own cuisine. You can spend so much time there learning stuff

I had some middle eastern cuisine while in Portland a few years ago. It was DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!! Thank You CNN for upping the likelihood that I will FAIL on my diet this week, lol.

In our typical American family, Christmas is a wonderful time of good will and great food. Ramadan is very similar in these regards. I used to work for a company here in the US that had many Muslim engineers, and come sunset during Ramadan the smell of ME foods would start wafting from every break room. Poke your head in any of these and you are likely to be invited to join in on the feast! Plus, according to Muslim tradition, good deeds performed during Ramadan are rewarded in the afterlife. Although not required by the Bible, our society has a "be kind" attitude during the Christmas holidays as well. (Of course, like the Muslim tradition, we are supposed to be that way all of the time, but we actually are more that way during the holidays.) Since Ramadan "floats" along with the lunar calendar, it is moving toward the long days/short nights part of the year, which makes it a bit more uncomfortable to get through the day without eating, hence when the feedbag comes out at sunset, the sense of pleasure associated with the evening meal is even greater. The feelings of thankfulness and wanting to share the joy are enhanced all the more. Happy Ramadan to all Muslims everywhere!

Well thank you and happy holidays to you too. It is refreshing to see some sensible non-Muslim bashing comments every now and then. The "other" comments, however , make me feel sorry for the petty state of ignorance that we have descended to.

Muslims can look forward to the day when their holy month is entirely commercialized, like the way Christmas & Easter have become. If marshmallow Peeps can be made without using pork gelatin, Muslims will soon be munching on sugary-coated shapes of the Islamic Star & Crescent! Delicious and halal!

Ramadan has been commercialized in countries like the UAE for a long time. It just keeps getting crazier. This it nothing new.

Not that I wouldn't want to play, but I wasn't addressing anyone in the comments section. I was grumbling about CNN and the media in general suddenly trying to mainstream Islam. That's it. You can back out to the playground!
    And have fun!

Not really sure how talking about foodways from around the world is "pandering." It's what we do on Eatocracy. Just because you, yourself, Bob may or may not agree with a group's politics doesn't mean they cease to exist.

If someone, anyone, eats - we're curious about it.
