As the Head Spy at a dessert detective agency, my most frequently asked question is "what, exactly, do you do?"

Well, basically it's my job to seek out and share sweetness with the world - and on my site, CakeSpy, this comes in form of sweet recipes, baking experiments (and occasional mischief), bakery reviews and baked good lore - all punctuated by my sweet watercolor paintings of anthropomorphic foodstuffs.

It all started a few years ago when I was working as an art director at a refrigerator magnet company (no, really). While I loved working in the arts, I felt that it wasn't feeding all of my interests. But how on earth could I combine my three great loves: writing, illustration, and baked goods?

I had no idea at the time, so I figured I'd start a blog while I figured it out. And thus, CakeSpy was born! What didn't occur to me, however, was that the blog could be the launchpad for an entire business: based on it, I have created a livelihood from writing about baked goods and selling my artwork - and have since opened a retail gallery called CakeSpy Shop in Seattle's super-hip Capitol Hill neighborhood, where I sell my artwork alongside the wares of a collection of other totally sweet artists from around Seattle and the United States, and I leave out a tray of sweets from my latest baking adventure for my customers every day.

But through all of my adventures, my mission remains the same: "Seeking sweetness in everyday life." I am celebrating those little things that make life so much sweeter - from the best new cupcake bakery to tutorials on how to make pimped-out cinnamon rolls or candy salad ... and of course, totally sweet artwork.

Which brings me to what is undoubtedly my second most frequently asked question: "are you hiring?"
