‘Miracle’ shot helps protect against hangover, long term health risks to drinkers, say doctors
‘IntelliShot’ from the extract of fossilized resin from 30 million year old Baltic pine trees helps counteract alcohol’s first and most toxic metabolite
Oh, I frat hard. To explain binge drinking: Drink til your sick and/or pass the f**k out, then wake up the next morning and get started at it again before you hangover sets in. <– My ivy-league college education in a nutshell. And people wonder why China is going to take over the world... Let me just close with this thought: If fratting (beerpong-ing, bonging, pitcher chugging, f-ing b's, getting your d wet, and gtl-ing, among other things) determined the gdp for our country, we would never have to worry about our economy ever again. Let's make it happen. Frat hard or die trying.
I started drinking when I was 21, so I didn't do any illegal drinking. It has been 3 years since and I don't drink as much, but when I do, I really go all out. It's really relaxing especially with the stress of class and grades, etc. I just want to get away from it all. Binge drinking helps, although it is not very wise. I don't care. Don't judge.
I look forward to getting likkered up :) every weekend. Used to drink wine, but as I got older it started giving me headaches. Switched to hard alcohol and no more headaches, but curiously, I don't get as much of a buzz as I used to from wine. This happen to anyone else?
Marijuana is SAFER than alcohol and less addictive than caffeine. Google the Henningfield Benowitz chart.
There has not been a single recorded death cause solely by marijuana use. Ever.
The LD50* for alcohol is about 15 times the usual dose. With alcohol, 15 shots in 15 minutes will kill 50% of adults. In contrast, the LD50 for marijuana is 250,000 times the usual smoked dose.
This is America. We owe ourselves the FREEDOM of choice. Don't drive Americans to drink. Think SAFER!
Google "Law Enforcement Against Prohibition", MPP – the "Marijuana Policy Project", and the "Drug Policy Alliance" to learn more and to help out.
*The LD50 is the median Lethal Dose for adults – i.e. 50% of adults would die if this amount is consumed in a short period.
I get drunk until I pass out twice a week. After a horribly long week of working my butt off, I want nothing more than to relax and just have a GREAT TIME doing it! Keep in mind I used to binge drunk 7 days a week, so if anything, I've actually improved my habits, lol.
I'm a freak of nature... I'm a 47 yr old male & live in Wisconsin and don't drink alcohol at all and never have. I've tasted it & hate it. I have no problem with people drinking I just hate the taste. Living in Wisconsin and not drinking makes for a lot of harassment so I've learned to tell people "I'm a recovering alcoholic" ... that, is the only excuse for not drinking that people around here seem to accept. It's kinda funny but I'm serious...cheers!
I'm a teacher on summer break, I drink a 6er every other day (New Belgium Ranger). During the school year I only drink on Fridays (6er) and Saturdays (6er).
I drink a half barrel every 10-12 days. I used to drink three 30 packs of week so I bought a beer meister to save a little money. The only thing it did was make me drink more. The only thing that sucks is carrying that barrel up steps.
I don't drink because I simply don't like the way it makes me feel (I do very much like the taste of many alcoholic beverages though). It makes my legs feel achy and gives me a slight headache and of course impairs coordination. This is also why I no longer smoke pot, it makes me think and feel like I do just before falling asleep, which gets annoying after an hour or so.
BEER! What a great thing to make from grain & hops & stuff. Haven't tried Mead yet but then no one has offered me one. I've drunk beer from Diego Garcia to Siganella Sicily and it's all good, except for that Sing High in Thailand maybe it was just a bad bottle. In my younger years we'd get snot slinging comode hugging drunk just because we could, it was a sailor thing. That was like 40 years ago, I got over it in about five years and now it takes a couple of weeks to go through a six pack. The best Beer I've had? Hmmmm I'd have to say the painted label San Miguel we drank in the PI, 25 cents a bottle, icy cold, hmmm good times. But then again I never made it to Germany to try their beer.
I go through a couple of quarts of rum between thanksgiving and new years during the Egg Nog season, hmmm yum yum.
I discovered that Hot Damn! a cinnamon based schnapps, think melted down red hots, goes really good with vanilla ice cream :-) Also a couple of glugs in a mug of root beer it is a really good thing. And suprise suprise, root beer schnapps works real good in that mug of root beer too.
But then I'd give all that up if I could go down to the store and buy me some weed. :-) someday maybe.
I drink about every three months and then it's only tequila. I get super giggly and very cheerful, I sleep for 3-5 hours, and then I'm awake for 24 hours. I like the not blinking part the most :D
"I drink alone, yeah
With nobody else
I drink alone, yeah
With nobody else
You know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself
Every morning just before breakfast
I don't want no coffee or tea
Just me and good buddy Wiser
That's all I ever need
'Cause I drink alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself
The other night I laid sleeping
And I woke from a terrible dream
So I caught up my pal Jack Daniel's
And his partner Jimmy Beam
And we drank alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself
The other day I got invited to a party
But I stayed home instead
Just me and my pal Johnny Walker
And his brothers Black and Red
And we drank alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself
My whole family done give up on me
And it makes me feel oh so bad
The only one who will hang out with me
Is my dear Old Grand-Dad
And we drink alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself"

I used to drink an incredibly large amount in college, about a handle of Gin or Whiskey a weekend. I have since calmed down and only drink maybe once or twice a month, and it is usually with co workers.
I would however, smoke marijuana if it were to be legalized. It is a much more enjoyable experience for me. I really enjoy smoking and just thinking about things on a level that is difficult to describe. There is also NO chance of a hangover, NO chance of getting into a fight, NO chance of sleeping with someone I otherwise wouldn't, NO chance of committing embarrassing acts that I won't remember the next day, and NO chance of overdosing or getting toxic THC levels. Besides, THC has shown to have many, many health benefits, and you don't have to smoke, you can vaporize or bake it into foods!
Sorry, dumb rant of mine, but marijuana's illegality perplexes me and irritates me all at once.
Yes I drink regularly, a scotch every evening sometimes two, I enjoy the taste, it relaxes me, I escape some things that bother me and enjoy life with a little less stress.......am I dependent on alcohol, I guess yes if I drink almost every day.....do I drink responsibly, yes......do I have to have a drink, no.....do I desire a drink early morning, no......would I want to give it up, no.......could I give it up, it would be hard.
I'll have a Robitussin on the Rocks...LMAO...{:o) I must be the only man alive that hates alcoholic beverages now...Funny thing too...Back in my college days (late 70's / early 80's), I used to drink beer and hard liquor like it was going out of style or something...I used to even enter beer chug-a-lugging contests at places like Art Stock's Playpen off Federal Highway in downtown Fort Lauderdale...We used to get SO DRUNK...LOL
"I feel sorry for those who don't drink because when they wake up in the morning, that's the best they're going to feel all day". -Dean Martin(I think)
I do not drink. I find nothing wrong with it, I just do not care for the taste of alcohol in general and its gives me the worst heartburn ever. I also do not smoke cigarettes. If marijuana were legal, I would smoke it.
I use to drink, mainly red wines and a few magaritas here and there. Would have a couple when out for dinner or out with friends, just to enjoy. Never got drunk. But recently a horrible event happened to my husband that envolved drinking (happened twice really) and ever since then we both vowed to not drink again. We both have kept our word and we seem to be a whole lot happier with each other. But, I have no problem with others drinking, as long as they stay off the roads.
I choose not to drink not for any religion , just doesn't seem appealing to me. Everyone around me and people I meet all do. I even go with friends to bars to hang out
I don't drink at home even if I'm throwing a party. I do like a good scotch but I save that for when I'm out for dinner at a nice place. Even then I usually only have one, (although it's a duble). There is one Mexican place I eat at that makes the best Margies I've ever had compared to ones I've had IN Mexico. I've lost my taste for beer. I never cared for wine but once in a while I'll have a glass or two. I try to treat drinking like any other vice: enjoy it but don't abuse it then you can't enjoy it anymore.
I drink everyday, start with some Sam Adams and move to Buffalo Trace bourbon. I pay my bills, show up for work, have friends who do and don't drink, do not drink if I have and used to be a substance abuse counselor. Got out because it became about the money not the work. Sign me the gun toting liberal.
I typically drink twice a week, one early-in-the weekday evening and one weekend evening. Usually, I drink a couple bottles of red wine. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. I never get bombed, but I do like to catch a good buzz. My wife doesn't drink at all. I enjoy drinking and would probably drink more opten if it weren't for the potential in weight gain, expense and the impression my wife would have of me. As it stands, she doesn't really approve of my two night a week routine. Why do I drink? It relaxes me, defeats the monotony of domestic routines, etc. Pass the vino!
It's very sporadic. I might not have a drink in like six months and then I might be out have one or two. I don't like drinking much. I prefer marijuana.
I used to drink 1-2 drinks almost every day but cut back to 1-2 drinks over a period of several weeks. I like it better this way. I don't like the feeling of being intoxicated all of the time. It clouds my thinking and often leaves me feeling tired.
At lance corporal; what ever you think. Between your replies on every other person's comment to stop prohibition on ganja, and the rest claiming they/we/I are propagandists and hear to make a political point without proper facts (How, uh, ironic). I'm not trying to change your mind or slow down the roll of your crusade, and I'm sure the hell not spreading facts to try and influence the behaviours of others. I like to smoke so I do. My difference is I accept the consequences of it and understand why it's illegal. More importantly, I understand why it will most probably NEVER be legal. I have a notion this won't burst your bubble so you just keep on trucking with that message! I never spoke of your intelligence, although you made your assumption of mine clear. Best of luck on an objective outlook in life and pursuit of knowledge, Mr. Educated! ~ Just to clarify, this IS about drinking, not smoking... RIGHT??
i've drank a sixer every night during the week and at least 12 on the wknd nights for over 10 yrs...keep drinking america it makes life more pleasurable....
What if I'm a seasonal alcoholic? Like during football season? I routinely knock back a 12 pack between Thursday and Sunday night from September through December... but the rest of the year may go through one twak a month to 6 weeks. How does that rank?
Oh you can drink all you want, but try to smoke some cannabis (which is nonlethal, and far less addictive) and you end up in jail!
I don't drink, don't like how it feels, but the substance, I as a FREE AMERICAN CHOOSE, and I get locked up by and out-of-control nanny-state.
Oh yeah, America's the "Land of the Free" alright....
I do not drink alcohol, and often get questioned about it whenever it comes up.
One investigator doing a security check on me actually asked me if I was an alcoholic – because he'd heard from my colleagues that I didn't drink.
I don't criticize people who choose to drink, why are my motivations brought into question because I choose not to?
I grew up in an alcoholic home environment; the only public drinking I ever did was at my friend's brother's Bar Mitzvah over 40 years ago. I've never been intoxicated or high on drugs [each of my 3 childbirths were drug free] I do not caffeinate myself nor have I consumed ANY alchoholic beverage since 1970. My sons don't drink either, and their campuses reeked of vomit after binge week-ends; the movies and TV glorify drunken behavior as funny or acceptable – it's not, it's pathetic and life threatening; to the drinker and innocent bystanders. Our cousin was killed by a drunk driver; she was in her early 20's and had never had a drink in her life. It's a pity people can't seem to unwind or socialize with out getting a buzz.
When it's time to die I won't regret not having indulged in any mind altering substances – I will have lived the life I was given head-on and fully cognizant; what I call a 'natural' life. I will qualify that by saying my sister died a horrible death from bone cancer so, of course, medicinal pain killers serve a very important role in severe health situations – but even those substances are abused. It's a sad commentary on our society.
I don't see what is unnatural about using mind altering substances considering every society on earth has sought them out. It is part of human existence. Don't get me wrong, there is definitely a line where using becomes abusing, but to say it is unnatural is inaccurate.
Hmmm... I just promised myself for 3 months I wouldn't drink any alcohol. I usually partake in a glass or two of wine/beer a day at 5:00 pm. It's a personal "test" to see if I feel physically any better or worse consuming alcohol. I'm observing whether or not my drinking had became just a habit to pour at 5:00 everyday with some expectations that I feel better... as they say "unwinding". I have found so far only after 2 1/2 weeks, drinking everyday is mostly an action of habit. I feel better NOT consuming everyday so far. Physically, I'm less dehydrated, sleep better and have noticed less irritability. I did find that the first week, I had to pour juice into my wine cup to help abstain, which told me hmmm... maybe I was becoming a bit of an addict or thought I really needed it. One really shouldn't feel the need to be dependent. Period. I have also noticed a little weight loss. I'm a healthy eater. I also run. So, alcohol did not ever really affect my weight. I'm a graphic designer/artist contrary to my thinking that a "buzz" would make me more creative in my work, I've found the opposite to be true. I'm more productive in these last two weeks than ever. So as of right now, my conclusion or results to my personal test is yeah,1 drink = 8oz. on occasion no more than 3x a week would be okay for me. Red wine being my first choice. But, I still have about 10 weeks to go on this experiment.
This poll is going to be used to show that Americans have a drinking problem and further the anti-drinking agenda that is currently in full force.. STOP THE NEO-PROHIBITIONISTS!!! NOAGENDASHOW.COM
I don't drink; never have, just because it doesn't appeal to me. When I was younger, I noticed the strange phenomenon of people harassing non-drinkers as if we don't have a right to abstain - but I had made it clear that I didn't judge anybody else for drinking, so it seemed strange and was really annoying. Then a friend told me that some people (younger ones mostly) pressure non-drinkers because they feel guilty about their own drinking, so they only want to give themselves permission to drink if EVERYBODY around them is drinking too with no exceptions. So now if somebody bothers me, I just pretend I'm already drunk and they leave me alone! It's fun, and nobody ever figures out I'm actually sober. :-)
Quit drinking 19 years ago, but smoke a little (1/2 joint per day). I'll tell you I couldn't be happier. When you consider how many lives have been lost, how many families have been destroyed, how many people have been abused because of alcohol, it's amazing that it's still legal.
If anyone ever says they did any of the things listed above after they smoked pot, they're lying through their teeth. When someone is stoned the last thing they want to do is get violent. Wake up America and do what's right for a change!!
Do you notice that the ones that do drink have a very short response here, but the ones that dont seem to think they have to explain themselves? Why do you think that is?
I drink alone, yea yeah I drink alone, you know when I drink alone I prefer to be by myself. I thought the poll was "do you drink for lunch". I make all my own stuff wine, beer and mead. The funny thing. I do drink alone 90% of the time.
They are flavourful and smooth. I've made blueberry, cherry, agave, persimmon, asian pear, even sweet potatoe. They are all made from honey instead of sugar.
Hey right on! I make my own beer and mead also. I'm partial to the melomels, delicious! When you have beer on tap at home at all times (I have a two tap keg fridge) it makes it so easy to just pull a pint off here and there or whenever you're feeling thirsty. And I also do most of my drinking alone. Some nights I have 3 or 4 pints and some nights I have 1. I'd say, on average, I drink 1-3 pints on weekdays and 3-8 pints on the weekends. Moderate drinker I'd say.
Well why wouldn't you drink more in the winter time? Warm the soul, you know...
I love coming home from work and spending a snowy evening inside, dressed in comfortable clothes and having a nice pint of some kind of winter ale or oatmeal stout. More in the winter I say!
alcohol is the devils tool ;-) naaaah just kidding, I don't drink at all, tried it as a kid and only did it a few times, A) I didn't like the buzz and B) it made me sick, I think I'm just one of those people who is borderline allergic or over sensitive to it, so to do the same thing most of you do, relax or occasionally party I smoke ganja, not every day and not alot, not while working (I work with power tools) and in no way to excess, I wish you drinkers would realize it's just a different choice of a MILD inebriant (you will never get as buzzed as you can on alcohol) and help stop the prohibition on this, you wouldn't want me to tell you you can't drink (and alcohol causes much more trouble than pot) and I wish I could use my "drink" of choice without being a criminal as in every other aspect of life I'm in no way remotely a criminal but like you consider it my right to get a small buzz after a hard day once in a while or at a party etc CHEERS !!
Good for you! Nothing wrong with pot except for all the problems with criminalization. I can't smoke it, makes me really nauseous the few times I've tried. I'll drink my wine and chat with you while you smoke. We can all get along!
THANK YOU for being balanced. My goodness, iit's not that hard to live and let live. And what happens when all of this prohibition is over? Thousands of people who wanted to smoke weed instead of drink or whatever, have been persecuted, have criminal records, has cost them dearly in so many ways all for nothing, or rather because people want to push their beliefs onto others
It's really not that big of a deal. I know PLENTY of people who do, and most you wouldn't expect. High performing, high power people I work with, friends, etc. I'll tell you straight that my drinking has caused me more issues than their pot smoking. Just more moralizing crap from people who like to make judgements on others. Live & let live.
Couldn't agree more Lance. Maybe if people would knock off this reefer madness crap we'd all be better off and law enforcement would concentrate on the real problems in our country
as I kid I grew up in FLA and in the late 70s the DEA arrested the entire police department of steinhatchee FL.... ALL of em, there are soooo many problems that have been CAUSED by the prohibition just like the mobs where created or strengthened by alcohol prohibition, I belong to a church, I'm a father, a hard worker, pay taxes, help my neighbors, don't steal or even drive all that fast..... why make me a criminal for no reason?? man with so many of average citizens being convinced what's the problem???
I used to drink regualrly but have not for many years. I probably have 1-2 drinks of wine or beer over the course of a year. The reason beingis that I learned that alcohol is actually falls into the category of a hypnotic drug rather than a stimulant. Ilearned this while studying a book called "Dianetics, The Modern Science of Mental Health". The reason that's so bad is that anything that is said around a person under the influece of a hypnotic drug can have an adverse effect on that person at a later date. That sure made me think twice about drinking alcohol, especially to any large degree. I need my faculties!
you must mean the modern science FICTION of mental health, I mean really who can take anything scientologists say seriously, little aliens inhabiting you???? get real and stop trying to slip your propaganda in to a discussion without even being honest about what you are doing, scientologists are devious and dangerous and your a propagandist looking for sheep to steal from
You probably would've been fine (except the whole hypnotic business because, yeah, not so much) if you hadn't brought up Dianetics. The Tom Cruise Law dictates that the minute any viewpoint is backed up by evidence from an L. Ron Hubbard book the owner of said viewpoint loses the argument and is subject to a year's worth of rickrolling courtesy of Anonymous.
I used to drink wine and beer all the time. After I got married and didn't go to clubs all the time I started drinking less. One morning I had a really nasty hangover and thought "I should drink a LOT less" and did. A couple times a year I drink socially, but if I say "I don't drink" it sounds as if I'm being superior or I have a drinking problem.
Alcohol is a very dangerous drug with 84% answering this poll saying yes ( and Beerman is drunk now, we are so proud of you my friend). Yet pot remains illegal and has less health issues than the drug we have legalized?
When will the US Government stop doing the same failed policy over and over, continue to escalate this “war on drugs” and begin to look for other solutions? When alcohol was legalized the policy wasn’t changed because the use and or abuse of alcohol were a good thing for personnel behavior. Alcohol was not declared safe it was regulated. The policy and the laws were changed because the criminal gangs, the violence and the corruption were unacceptable damage of the policy of prohibition.
Now is the time to legalize marijuana, regulate it, and control it and contain the use above the black market drug cartels. IMHO take the profits away and remove the teeth of these criminals, and save thousands of innocent victims here and in Mexico.
As simply as you put it I will recant. No, I'm basing ideas from what I've read. I'm basing ideas from scientific studies 10 yrs ago in college as well as current news, not what I gathered from some NORML mag or a stoner session gone political. Since I truly love it as much as you obviously do, I implore you to DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and read a little updateed information on the subject rather than taking a blind stance. Self-righteousness is so boring to hear, wake up and educate yourself!
I've heard the battle cry for legalization before, yeah, it was my dad that swore up, down and all-around that pot would be legal by the start of 70's. Okay, surely the 80's... Damn that Reagan drug-war thingy. I'm not sure you have considered the ramifications of legality from all angles, but no worry, the big-wig manufacturers and lobbyists who would be devastated by hemp distribution (forget the THC, that "side-effect" isn't even where the REAL money is at) will keep many optimists swearing change is around the corner for many generations to come. On a bright note, it's a lot easier to spot a drunk school bus driver than it is a stoned/buzzed one and I prefer neither to have the chance at ending a box full of children's lives. Whaa, wait... What were we talking about?? My STM is not what it should be since I've regularly smoked it up for the last 18 years! Pot is a great release, but it's not the miracle cure for addicts and an american lifestyle. Too much of anything can be bad, like hyperventilation on air. Besides what new info we have on the dangers of the THC chemical (Stoners, argue with the studies, not me) what about the other 47 toxins naturally derived from the plant? This doesn't include additives!!! WAKE-UP!!!
yo scott your making incorrect assumptions about me and are completely off the mark, you are also rambling in your comments, and it appears your saying you smoke but don't think it's Ok to do so, if that was the case with me I would stop as I am very much in control of my own behaviour, very smart and educated and very intentional in my choices, given how your comments are written you are either a plant propogandist or just argumentative or just really as I said confused and conflicted, either way, your the one being self righteous, I'm not judging your choices just that you seem conflicted and confused in your writing, BTW legalization has nothing to do with a bus driver using it at work just as legal alcohol doesn't and we can't go around making everything dangerous illegal this is amercia home of the free the gov't can't and shouldn't protect us from everything
THC and the other 47 (not sure about that #, but it sounds good so let's run with it) psychoactive compounds found in cannabis are not 'toxins'. There are no toxic effects, and no lethal dose. There is tar in the plant and that is a toxin, but the good stuff in that plant is not toxic.
Let's not get caught up on the verbiage, studies call them toxins but I doubt they raise the same severity of reaction as eboli or anthrax. THC and 47 other "compounds" are not supposed to be in your body. Which is fine on a low-level, we breathe in "compounds" that shouldn't be there as well. My point, and that of some scientists is we don't know the severity of long-term effects without further intensive, long-term studying. I'm not saying a frequent pot-smoker will suffer from as much issues as a long-term drinker, I'm saying it is sad to hear everyone thinks there are no effects from long-term smoking b/c of what was originally stated and what stands up today: it takes a garbage truck's load of weed inhalation to die from THC. ~ The first college student to try and prove this through liquid THC injection killed himself from the experiment, toxic amounts of THC, FYI.
,: you mean lets have a discussion without paying attention to what we are saying?? see what I mean this doesn't make sense, rambling and we shouldn't go by what a NORML pamphlet says right????. not all studies call them toxins and it is a loaded word and again SO WHAT?? it is my right to put in to my body what I choose that hurts no others in my opinion but what does that point have to do with anti prohibition??? we don't have LONG TERM studies on all kinds of things, that is an absurd bar to set as it is NOT set for other things, and we DO have studies that indicate there are no appreciable harms done by moderate smoking of ganja god because we all know the opposite is true!!! DUDE THAT WAS NEVER STATED!! where by whom??? not in THIS discussion where did you get that? and since when is ONE INSTANCE of anything proof of....ANYthing. WHAT is your point???? the original statement compared it with alcohol and that it should be legal, THAT is the discussion, MY statement was that a casual, moderate user shouldn't be made a criminal, WHO AND WHAT are you arguing with??? you assume that we are deluded about things we never even said, I have never once read a NORML pamphlet, I don't need to, I'm healthy as a horse, make great informed life choices and capable of a cogent argument you ramble about and your posts do not add up or even deal with the original statements, I don't know what you do in addition to smoking ganja but whatever it is you may want to consider slowing it down
A mass producer of marijuana will add addictive ingredients to it, guaranteed. Youre crazy if you think the corporate world is going to sell just plain marijuana.
like they do with my kid's cereal?? A) corporations scare me as much as the next alternative person but what your suggesting is REALLY paranoid and B) legal pot would certainly be picked up by corporate sellers but just like organic food there will be plenty of alternatives, LOADS of us already know how to grow it and C) so what??? is that a reason to stop selling, cigs, booze, or green beans??? all stuff corporations already sell and put additives in so your argument is not valid it's just an extreme statement meant to inflame with out real merit to the discussion against prohibition
Your argument is based on the dangers of alcohol, the mass production of marijuana will make it just as dangerous as alcohol, making your point invalid. There will be safe alternatives but alcohol is also safe based on how its used. Having safe alternatives doesnt fix the unsafe alternatives.
the war on drugs is made up. The government pumps the drugs into the U.S. using commercial airliners and public banks. The U.S. government is the largest drug cartel in the world and their partners are Wachovia, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. That's why they will never legalize pot. You're taking money out of their pocket. Check it out on Bloomberg:

Too much. Averaging about six to nine heavy IPA's/day. Talk about caloric intake, albeit mostly empty calories. I think one Maximus IPA is around 400 calories. Multiply that by 9 and you're up there as far as calories go.
I attribute it to boredom. I miss being a kid and playing with Lego, Capsela, etc.. for hours. Nowadays everything seems to grow old real fast. Even the internet is boring. There's nothing new to see. Day in, day out, wake up, go to work, come home, do more work, weekend rolls around and you try to do all the errands you couldn't do during the weekdays because you were so busy working, rinse and repeat... add a little time to eat, bathe and defecate/urinate and you're not left with more than an hour or two to do something you enjoy.
As the saying goes on some t-shirt I saw..."I drink in moderation. Moderation is an imaginary place that exists wherever I am."
If you're bored, lacking energy, and using alcohol as something to do – you may be depressed. Lots of depressed people self-medicate with alcohol because they haven't been properly diagnosed. No one likes admitting they need an antidepressant, but hey, they work better for depression, they're cheaper, and they have no calories! Please, talk to your doctor.
Yes, this is exactly the response that I expected.
No, I do not lack energy. No, I am not depressed. I just get bored easily. I'm jaded from all the crap out there. I get out and go fishing, white water rafting, toss together my own electronic devices, hack into new ones, do some aquaponics in the system i built, etc... but there's only so much fun I can have with the day in and day out 'grind' that the majority of us experience every day. Hence, the majority of the time, I am bored.
dude you need a challenge, no one can tell you what it is but you should go find it, you obviously have more talent and energy than you know what to do with
If you're bored and like beer, why not try homebrewing? It would give you something to do I probably drink one beer every other day or so. Also wine when my wife wants some with or after dinner.
Moderation – I can relate to you, I live a very active life, work full time, have a family, etc etc and I drink daily. I don't consider myself depressed...just very busy and live a chaotic life...wine helps me "unwine" at the end of the day.
I drink alcohol very rarely. My husband and many of my friends do not drink alcohol. I occasionally have a glass of wine or a mixed drink, usually only for special occasions. However, I do sometimes cook with wine for the flavor, but the alcohol itself is lost in the process and only the flavor remains.
I don't like getting drunk and alcohol is very high in calories. I think that cutting back on alcohol is a good way to lose or maintain your weight.
Actually Michelle, take it from a chef, when you cook with wine only about 40% of the alcohol cooks off 60% of it remains in the food. It's a misconception unless you cook the dish for hours; still then 5 to 10 percent of alcohol still remains . I guess you drink more often than you thought. Lush! :-)
I don't drink at all. Not because I see something wrong with it or for other moral reasons. I don't drink because it makes me sick and it makes me tired – half a glass of wine will knock me out and give me a hangover. Sure I drank till I was sick from 15-17 years old but I am now in my late 20s and never drink. However it seems to bother people that I don't drink, and they keep encouraging me to take a drink (as if I was doing this to be some kind of rebel) I always have alcohol in the house for friends and I always go to bars with them, Not sure why some people get so offended with me for not drinking. I support those who drink, and I would hope others support my choice to not drink
Penny – I support your decision. I think that if alcohol makes you feel ill, then not drinking it is a very sensible choice! If people give you a hard time about it, just tell them that you don't enjoy being nauseous or drowsy. Most people don't!
Since I very rarely drink, I usually tell people who comment about it that I'm watching my weight, which is the truth. That usually suffices. Often the people who say something about my not drinking could stand to lose a few themselves.
Ditto for me Penny. I have tried it. I don't even mind the taste but I have found that I have a pretty adverse reaction to it though I would stop short of saying I was allergic. A half a glass of wine is enough to make me feel like I have the flu for about 24 hours. It just isn't worth it for me. I do find that I am the designated driver of choice for pretty much every occasion.
Before I reached your last sentence or two I formed an opinion that you possibly make them feel bad for drinking around you in some way (that may still actually be the case, perhaps you don't notice), but you wrote that you support them. In some cases, people I know that don't drink often have a way to gesture or say something that makes the people drinking feel bad about what they are doing.
I personally don't trust someone who lets loose once in a while. They have a dark side they don't want someone else to see or absolutely afraid of making an a** out of themselves.
I have dealt t with that as well, I used to gig as a musician and one band made me get make believe shots when the band was bought a round so as not to offend the clientele, when I was younger friends would always want me to drink with them and it still happens, I'm older now and most of my friends have mellowed so it only comes up occasionally these days but whenever I'm in a bar then or now I just order an OJ or something tip well and to he ll with anyone who thinks it's weird
I don't drink because I'm severely emetophobic (that's a fear of vomiting if you're unfamiliar with the term), and alcohol is infamous for causing you to vomit. I can't even be around people who are drinking because I'm afraid that one of them will throw up (or hit on me or grope me or any of those other wonderful things drunk people do to women), and I'll have a terrible panic attack.
But even without that phobia, I'm on medication that, if mixed with alcohol, could kill me.
People give me a lot of crap about my choice to not drink, either. I don't understand it.
I rarely drink simply because I don't like the taste. Everyone in my family is the same. But when I was traveling in Australia some years back my Aussie friends just did not understand me. I finally resorted to telling people that I didn't drink because by 18 years of age I had destroyed my kidneys from drinking. They accepted that and though quite highly of me for it.
the doctor says im living
on precious borrowed time,
from all the time ive given
to liquor beer and wine
the xrays of my liver
look like moldy old swiss cheese
my heart pumps blood and alcohol
thru hardened arteries
everybody knows me
down at the local bar
i drink until i cant see
and i wonder where you are
i guess i let my health go
since you quit being mine
but there was nothing to replace you
except liquor beer and wine
liquor beer and wine
is a flashing sign i see
every single morning i get up
its a buzzin down at me
i look up to the heavens
for a ray of hope to shine
and there it is in neon,
liquor beer and wine
I applaud you for doing what you want. I am also a non-drinker. I've never tasted anything (at 27 yrs), partially because I was raised that alcohol is from the devil (I disagree now), but also because I have seen alcoholism in my family, and I don't even want to give myself a chance to get that addicted. Self-control is not one of my strong points, and it would be multiplied by the fact that enough alcohol can create problems. I do not judge anyone who wants a drink and will occasionally join my friends at the bar (and get a coke) after work. This is simply my preference.
I support your decision not to drink as well. I'll have a margarita every now and again but that's pretty much it. Don't feel bad if people put pressure on you, just shrug it off. A recent study showed that people with drinking problems feel better about thier own drinking habits when they are around other people who drink just as much or more than they do.
My father was an alcoholic, he ruined many lives. I do not drink, I will not live with anyone that does. Work meetings are miserable because of all those that drink too much and act like fools. I know two alcoholics one got liver issues the other breast cancer. Alcohol to me is stupid and pointless. Nothing to do with my religion as I'm not a Christian. It's sad to me that I have trouble socializing because everything has to be surrounded with alcohol. Money making opportunity for bars and restaurants and people are stupid enough to get sucked in. My 2 cents.
I average a few sips around every 6 months, does that still count? I dont like the taste of alcoholic drinks, very rarely will I try a drink and I have never in my life finished a drink. Beer is horrible tasting and it ALL tastes the same to me, Ive tried a lot of expensive microbrews with supposedly a wide variety of taste but they all tasted exactly alike, and the taste that I taste is very very bad. Cocktails can be good at first but they end up too sweet after around half a glass. Regular liquor drinks like martinis taste better than beer but still dont taste very good and are way too intense.
I prefer mildly sweet refreshing things when it comes to my drinks. Alcoholic stuff doesnt seem to fit that criteria (many people consider some drinks as mild, I consider their version of "mild" as intense). I like my food to be intense and flavorful but not my drinks.
@Joe: I too think some mixed drinks are too sweet and intense. Try this: Vodka, club soda, and a splash or sweet and sour. You might also request the bartender cut the mixer part of any drink in half with club soda...sort of a spritzer I guess.
I'm not trying to push you to drink or anything, but perhaps you're just going to the wrong bars. If you go to virtually any corporate chain bar/restaurant odds are you won't see much creativity or talent in the bar. There are of course exceptions, but for the most part you have to seek out great bartenders and bars, the same way you have to seek out specific restaurants to keep from eating the same generic food. If you see things like Rose's grenadine or "sweet and sour mix" on the menu, then trust me, you're drinking at the wrong bar. Mixology, if you want to call it that, has become a respected wing of the culinary arts, and all the philosophies of running a great kitchen are employed behind many bars nowadays. A drink that matches ones tastes can be constructed for anyone. Not telling you to go out and drink, but as an experienced, passionate, and dedicated bartender I KNOW I can make you a drink you'd love.

Frat hard or die trying.
hooray beer!
"make it a treat"
explain binge drunk
50% of adults would die if this amount is consumed in a short period.
shut the fuck up hippie the grown ups are talking about alcohol, not your shitty devils lettuce
every night's a shit show for me. vodka on the rocks, no rocks please
I get drunk until I pass out twice a week. After a horribly long week of working my butt off, I want nothing more than to relax and just have a GREAT TIME doing it! Keep in mind I used to binge drunk 7 days a week, so if anything, I've actually improved my habits, lol.
3:00pm, time to crack one open :)
I would not drink if I lived in Wisconsin either, yuck, cheese beer would taste horrible!
Drinking allows me to survive living in a state (Idaho) full of ignoramus republicans and self righteous Mormons!!! LOL
hey geo, you've GOT to try beer cheese and hot pretzels... you'd take back that statement!
and, lucky you, Idaho= potatoes= vodka! You're only supporting the local economy ;-)
Beer cheese soup, yes, it actually exists and my wife loves it!
I'm a teacher on summer break, I drink a 6er every other day (New Belgium Ranger). During the school year I only drink on Fridays (6er) and Saturdays (6er).
I'll drink you all under the table.. then dance nude on top of it
SLAINTE !!
I drink a half barrel every 10-12 days. I used to drink three 30 packs of week so I bought a beer meister to save a little money. The only thing it did was make me drink more. The only thing that sucks is carrying that barrel up steps.
there is too much blood in my alcohol system.
There's a bunch of nancies on these boards. 12 drinks a day keeps the sobriety away!
Beer is the reason I get up in the afternoon.
I drink 7 drinks every 2-3 days. I have fun doing it and have a great life.
I drink about 3 or 4 stiff gin and tonics about 6 times a week. And on the weekends add to that. Coors lights and shots
@Joe You sound like a wuss. Thanks for the laugh, I read your entire post with a lisp on it!
Never trust a person who won't sit down & have a drink w/ you.
"I drink alone, yeah
With nobody else
I drink alone, yeah
With nobody else
You know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself
Every morning just before breakfast
I don't want no coffee or tea
Just me and good buddy Wiser
That's all I ever need
'Cause I drink alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself
The other night I laid sleeping
And I woke from a terrible dream
So I caught up my pal Jack Daniel's
And his partner Jimmy Beam
And we drank alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself
The other day I got invited to a party
But I stayed home instead
Just me and my pal Johnny Walker
And his brothers Black and Red
And we drank alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself
My whole family done give up on me
And it makes me feel oh so bad
The only one who will hang out with me
Is my dear Old Grand-Dad
And we drink alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself"
I don't drink. I'm an atheist, so its not because of religion.
shut the fuck up you self righteous prick
In a world without drinking:
- The Karaoke machine would never exist.
- Much of the worlds population would not be here.
- The questionably do-able girl by the bar wouldn't get the +2 points.
- Awkward silence would be rampant.
- That one girl would never have heard your obnoxiously loud version of "Creep" by Radio Head.
- You would've never had the balls to hump that podium.
- Chuck Norris jokes would no longer be funny.
- Wide-mouth toilet seats would not exist.
- Gatorade would plummet
- Country music would be faster.
- We would've never discovered the Asian red-face epidemic
- That one friend would be pointless to have.

In the words of George Thoroughgood, I'll have, "One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer."
Me too! Drink out of boredom! It's fun.
I'm a pretty happy person, though. I don't really get depressed.
"I feel sorry for those who don't drink because when they wake up in the morning, that's the best they're going to feel all day". -Dean Martin(I think)
i don't trust anybody that didn't used to drink.
I do not drink. I find nothing wrong with it, I just do not care for the taste of alcohol in general and its gives me the worst heartburn ever. I also do not smoke cigarettes. If marijuana were legal, I would smoke it.
I drink about a 1.75L of vodka a week thats , not too bad really I work, I pay my bills and I have alot of fun...
I would go entirely dry, but the boring, uptight teetotalers in this bible-belt town constantly drive me to drink...
Recently, I have been drinking a few shots of higher-end clear tequila with a beer chaser almost every day.
"I drink to make other people less boring." – Christopher Hitchens
I havent really found a good reason yet to stop drinking! until I do...CHEERS!!!
No wonder there are so many nutty comments here–most of you are drunk!
Does rum cake count?
How about tiaramisu?
Can I get a beer over here?
One a day. Every day, except when I have two.
Now that is one honest statement.
Cheers Tony.
I love drinking but i drink only on weekends, may be sometimes on weekdays depending on situation. Love Scotch, and Beer occasionally.
I'm of Irish descent so I think it's required that i drink.
RIGHT??
ramble on
if you do something you think is wrong your an idiot or in some way are seriously our of control
I just don't trust a person who doesn't drink! As B. Franklin said..."Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy..."
Ben was wrong on two points then. Alcohol makes people less trustworthy and there is no god.
I don't drink, I smoke marijuana which is much less debilitating.
Mmmm beer
Never have, never will.
thats right, yo in dallas, keep drinking baby!!!!!!!!!! wooooooooooooooooo
i've drank a sixer every night during the week and at least 12 on the wknd nights for over 10 yrs...keep drinking america it makes life more pleasurable....
What if I'm a seasonal alcoholic? Like during football season? I routinely knock back a 12 pack between Thursday and Sunday night from September through December... but the rest of the year may go through one twak a month to 6 weeks. How does that rank?
I'd give it a 9.5 but the east german judge is gonna screw ya
I love to DRINK drink all the time, its AMERICA BABY get used to, relax and have a drink you useless people...
Hooray Beer!
I do not drink alcohol, and often get questioned about it whenever it comes up.
One investigator doing a security check on me actually asked me if I was an alcoholic – because he'd heard from my colleagues that I didn't drink.
I don't criticize people who choose to drink, why are my motivations brought into question because I choose not to?
i drink o'douls, the thinking man's beer!
The thinking man with no taste buds...
Yeah and paying $6.00 a six pack. Just drink Coors Light and save a couple bucks.
NOAGENDASHOW.COM
end all prohibition!
IN THE MORNING!
Don't drink and never have; can't stand the taste of the stuff.
Wake up America and do what's right for a change!!
end prohibition on ganja
Do you notice that the ones that do drink have a very short response here, but the ones that dont seem to think they have to explain themselves? Why do you think that is?
because we're used to it, we are constantly put under pressure TO drink and have to frequently explain ourselves, drinking is the norm
I drink alone, yea yeah I drink alone, you know when I drink alone I prefer to be by myself. I thought the poll was "do you drink for lunch". I make all my own stuff wine, beer and mead. The funny thing. I do drink alone 90% of the time.
Speak to us of this mead you make!
Tomorrow I'm making 20 gallons. So i'll be set for a while. I think I'll make a 60 IPA and a Sierra Nevada. Of course with my own additions.
I own a bar.... so I drink everyday, but I do mix it up as not to get bored with drinking the same thing
Is saying that I have an empty bottle of rum and another empty of tequila on my desk right now suggesting anything? Hehehe.
I limit myself to 2 drinks- either mixed or glasses of wine. Anymore than that and I usually feel sick the next day!!
I don't think this poll is accurately representative of the actual ratio of drinkers to non-drinkers.
Also, the bartender in the graphic is hot.
does look like she might be cute eh?? I think it may well be representative if your asking if people drink AT ALL
Even better, this poll accurately represents the percentage of drinkers, non-drinkers, and those who realized they had a drinking problem and quit.
And yeah, the bartender is hot and she works in a bar... with a freakin' gong! How cool is that?
I drink, probably to much...
I used to drink a couple of 1/2 gallons of Jack Daniels every week. Now I only drink light beer!
I lost 100 pounds. Now I smoke weed and feel much better
yay weed, legalize it!!!!
Straight Edge for life.
During the summer I will have 3-4 beers a night. Fall, winter, and spring 2-3 beers a week.
Well why wouldn't you drink more in the winter time? Warm the soul, you know...
I love coming home from work and spending a snowy evening inside, dressed in comfortable clothes and having a nice pint of some kind of winter ale or oatmeal stout. More in the winter I say!
Agreed! Nothing better than warming yourself from the inside out, especially if you live in an igloo like we Canadians do ;)
alcohol is the devils tool ;-) naaaah just kidding, I don't drink at all, tried it as a kid and only did it a few times, A) I didn't like the buzz and B) it made me sick, I think I'm just one of those people who is borderline allergic or over sensitive to it, so to do the same thing most of you do, relax or occasionally party I smoke ganja, not every day and not alot, not while working (I work with power tools) and in no way to excess, I wish you drinkers would realize it's just a different choice of a MILD inebriant (you will never get as buzzed as you can on alcohol) and help stop the prohibition on this, you wouldn't want me to tell you you can't drink (and alcohol causes much more trouble than pot) and I wish I could use my "drink" of choice without being a criminal as in every other aspect of life I'm in no way remotely a criminal but like you consider it my right to get a small buzz after a hard day once in a while or at a party etc CHEERS !!
Good for you! Nothing wrong with pot except for all the problems with criminalization. I can't smoke it, makes me really nauseous the few times I've tried. I'll drink my wine and chat with you while you smoke. We can all get along!
right on!!! different strokes for different folks
I would drink daily if it didn't make me fat. Too many empty calories. Drink of choice is Rum or Whiskey.... 4-6 oz. No mixers.
Do you work at Dunder Mifflin? ;)
Yes, drunken recall. Odd thing that is.
you must mean the modern science FICTION of mental health, I mean really who can take anything scientologists say seriously, little aliens inhabiting you???? get real and stop trying to slip your propaganda in to a discussion without even being honest about what you are doing, scientologists are devious and dangerous and your a propagandist looking for sheep to steal from
If you believe in scientology, you've already lost your faculties!!
...LOL.
I mean, seriously. What?
One bottle of wine every night. Great way to wind down after a long, stressful day at work and I sleep like a baby ;-)
I quit drinking when they invented the funnel
I've been tempted to do a slow IV drip to avoid all the bloating and issues the next day after a heavy session...but that's a bit dangerous.
I have to brush up on my math before I can calculate the correct drip rate for my weight, height, etc...
Try an Alcohol vaporizor instead of the slow drip IV. I've heard they work well. http://www.vaporizersreviews.com/articles/alcohol-vaporizers.html
i drink every day. whether it is wine or beer, usually not hard alcohol. its all in moderation (minus the weekends).
I haven't had a drink in exactly 1 year. I have never felt better in my life! Honestly!
happy anniversary, good for you
BOOOORRRRINNNNGGGGG
Where's the LIKE button when you need it?
So true..I'd hit that!
hoorah!
stop the ganja prohibition!!!
WAKE-UP!!!
wow you are one confused conflicted dude
yo scott your making incorrect assumptions about me and are completely off the mark, you are also rambling in your comments, and it appears your saying you smoke but don't think it's Ok to do so, if that was the case with me I would stop as I am very much in control of my own behaviour, very smart and educated and very intentional in my choices, given how your comments are written you are either a plant propogandist or just argumentative or just really as I said confused and conflicted, either way, your the one being self righteous, I'm not judging your choices just that you seem conflicted and confused in your writing, BTW legalization has nothing to do with a bus driver using it at work just as legal alcohol doesn't and we can't go around making everything dangerous illegal this is amercia home of the free the gov't can't and shouldn't protect us from everything
WHAT is your point???? the original statement compared it with alcohol and that it should be legal, THAT is the discussion, MY statement was that a casual, moderate user shouldn't be made a criminal, WHO AND WHAT are you arguing with??? you assume that we are deluded about things we never even said, I have never once read a NORML pamphlet, I don't need to, I'm healthy as a horse, make great informed life choices and capable of a cogent argument you ramble about and your posts do not add up or even deal with the original statements, I don't know what you do in addition to smoking ganja but whatever it is you may want to consider slowing it down
Like +1
I'll drink to that!
Having safe alternatives doesnt fix the unsafe alternatives.
that simply makes no sense
Homegrown is the answer to that. Neil Young says so!
the war on drugs is made up. The government pumps the drugs into the U.S. using commercial airliners and public banks. The U.S. government is the largest drug cartel in the world and their partners are Wachovia, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. That's why they will never legalize pot. You're taking money out of their pocket. Check it out on Bloomberg:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-06-29/banks-financing-mexico-s-drug-cartels-admitted-in-wells-fargo-s-u-s-deal.html
AGREE!! 100% Alcohol is way worse than pot!! But how are we ever going to convince the politically correct namby pambys?!
Hoorah.
Hence, the majority of the time, I am bored.
dude you need a challenge, no one can tell you what it is but you should go find it, you obviously have more talent and energy than you know what to do with
ADD?
Jen, just tell 'em that you fight and break things when you drink.
loser
A recent study showed that people with drinking problems feel better about thier own drinking habits when they are around other people who drink just as much or more than they do.
because misery loves company :O}
My 2 cents.
I would drink, but it just goes to my square head..
lolz
Hell, I'm drunk right now
(Okay, that actually made me giggle out loud.)
Rocket Fuel Malt Liquor....DAAAAMMMMNNNN!!!!! (The late Phil Hartman on News Radio)
I should be...
I wish I was!
I'm jealous!
I drink a twelve pack of beer a day. for about 6 yrs.
I like this guy already!
I'll drink to that!
My ex husband drank a 12 pack of beer a day. He died when he was 43.
You wish. I'm a big guy. Larger the person, the more you can drink.
He must have been drinking bad beer!
Bye bye problems!!! Hello High Life! The Champagne of beer
Nice Gut!
Let's drink!
I average a couple a week. Beer mostly, which makes it healthy right!? Who's with me!!
I average about one drink every 4 weeks... so yes, I guess that does count.
I am! I love red wine and champagne- in moderation. I'll drink to that :)
Cheers
if you think all beer tastes the same you are retarded.
I only drink when I'm driving the kids to school
HIGHLARIOUS!
How irresponsible of you! I can't believe you only drink while bringing kids to school and not back from school as well.
