At age 10, Marshall Reid, an iReport contributor, is a child chef who reinvents popular dishes.

Shredding iceberg lettuce in the kitchen, Marshall discussed ways to make a taco salad healthier. Marshall's "healthy spin" recipe included lettuce, ground turkey and beef, low-fat cheese, light sour cream, tomatoes, and cilantro. And there's no fried taco shell for his Day 26 dinner.

    Marshall,
Thanks for your video snippets – they've inspired me to take another look at what my diet has turned into – largely fastfood these days – convenience, convenience, convenience... has seemed to have taken over common sense when it comes to healthy nutrition.
I realize you're only 10 right now, but I have a feeling you'll become a force to reckon with as you get older.
Even at such an early age, I think maybe you were put on this planet to transform the fast food industry into a healthy alternative, which it isn't now. Can you work on that? :-)

Marshall will never forget these experiences. From how he felt as an overweight child to how he feels about himself now by taking personal responsibility for his decisions. These are huge lessons and I applaud his courage for sharing his experience. I am so proud of him and that he is able to use one of his best attributes to assist him in learning and leading.

Wow. This kid is trying to make healthier choices when it comes to diet. He should be encouraged for his efforts, not attacked by trolls that are looking to bring him down. Way to come down on a 10 year old, Sue. How about you try putting yourself out there rather than making snarky comments about a 10 year old that is trying to do something positive. He's clearly a lot braver than you.

It doesn't help the article that he's quite plainly obese.

If you care to take the time to read the article and watch the videos on youtube and CNN, you will see that Marshall started this process because he has a problem with weight. You will also see that he has lost 11 pounds through educating himself on healthy choices and exercise. Instead of feeling proud of yourself for stating the obvious, educate yourself like he is.

Seriously, you're going to point out that the child is obese? The point is that he's taking his health into his own hands and doing something about it by making healthy meals. Great job Marshall! I wish that I had taken steps like that at 10 years old and maybe now I would be more on track with weight and diet. It's never too late to try though right? After 101 lbs. loss, I think I'll make Marshall's taco salad for dinner tonight!!! It sounds yummy!

What's he shredding while talking about healthy eating? The only virtue in iceberg lettuce is that it travels well; that's what it was bred to do. Please tell Marshall if he wants to eat in a healthy manner he needs to get some decent lettuce like Bibb or Romaine. Iceberg is just plain nasty.

      Lucinda,

I believe Marshall is creating a taco salad in this video, I have never seen a taco salad recipe call for romaine or bibb lettuce, Iceburg lettuce is hydrating, fresh and tastes good on a taco salad!
