Definition: Though often used interchangeably with "grilling," barbecue technically refers to a dish that has been slow-cooked over low, indirect heat from an open source such as charcoal or wood, or from the hot smoke from such a source. 2. It can also be used to refer to the equipment used to cook such a dish, otherwise known as a grill, consisting of a gridiron set over a container for a heat source 3. It's also used to refer to an event at which barbecue dishes are served
